[17:00:41] <meffie> hello
[17:00:45] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> greetings
[17:00:48] <cwills> Hello
[17:01:24] <wiesand> Hi
[17:02:19] <wiesand> Nice stunt yesterday
[17:02:25] <meffie> so, what's new? how is everyone's week been?
[17:02:42] <wiesand> Oh, nothing special, really ;-)
[17:03:15] mbarbosa joins the room
[17:03:18] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> you know, same old
[17:03:26] <cwills> the quiet before the storm?
[17:03:34] <mvita2> present
[17:04:13] <wiesand> I just updated 14264 :-/
[17:04:36] <meffie> thanks everyone for getting 1.8.7 out so fast. and the deb and ppas too.
[17:05:35] <wiesand> Seconded. Thanks Ben for all the heavy lifting.
[17:06:00] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Anders takes all the blame for getting the ppas, not just yesterday
but "for ever"
[17:06:09] <mvita2> huzzah!
[17:06:57] <meffie> thank you to Anders too!
[17:07:18] <wiesand> I don't quite understand why he chose to patch the 1.8.6 packages rather than using 1.8.7, but it doesn't really matter.
[17:07:38] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> That's easy: it just mirrors what I did for debian
[17:08:06] <wiesand> ah
[17:08:07] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I wanted to get the fixes out, but a 1.8.7 tag was still a couple
hours out from the time I was doing the work, so I just pulled the
patches in locally and bumped the debian version
[17:08:19] <mvita2> right, and some would just want the necessary fixes
[17:09:07] <wiesand> well, the other changes in 1.8.7 are very very limited…
[17:09:55] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> The other changes in 1.8.7 are the version number and the release
notes, yeah
[17:10:29] <mvita2> oh, sorry, that's my misunderstanding
[17:10:34] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> It's also marginally easier to just pull in a few patches from
upstream than take a complete upstream release, since there are a
couple other patches that debian is carrying and would need to be
inspected/rebased
[17:11:27] <wiesand> Mark what you had in mind shall henceforth be called 1.8.8
[17:11:55] <meffie> cwills made rpms for el6, 7, 8 on sna downloads, and marco made openafs 1.8.7 dmgs for macos
[17:12:13] <wiesand> nice
[17:12:28] <meffie> both are available on https//download.sineomine.net/openafs/bins/1.8.7
[17:12:35] <meffie> er
[17:13:06] <meffie> that is http://download.sinenomine.net/openafs/bins/1.8.7/ <http://download.sinenomine.net/openafs/bins/1.8.7/>
[17:13:33] <meffie> https://download.sinenomine.net/openafs/bins/1.8.7/
[17:13:47] <cwills> I opened a ticket in the gentoo tracking, so it should be taking care of there.  It appears a simple renaming the ebuild is all that is needed.
[17:14:00] <meffie> thanks cwills.
[17:15:11] <wiesand> gerrit seems a bit sluggish again
[17:15:23] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I kicked off a gerrit gc just a few minutes ago
[17:15:45] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> ... which just died with a "fatal: internal server error", oh boy
[17:15:46] <wiesand> ah, better now
[17:16:03] <meffie> ug
[17:16:08] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I guess I will not poke at it more during the meeting, at least.
[17:16:11] <mvita2> rats
[17:16:37] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> But I probably also need go gc and/or fsck the bare git repos that
back git.openafs.org as well.
[17:17:23] <meffie> ok, well, unless there is something more urgent i motion to adjourn so we can upgrade and fix things?
[17:17:38] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I, for one, don't have other things to report for this week
[17:18:12] <wiesand> Cheyenne just continued to review the aklog changes -thanks.
[17:18:24] <cwills> No problem
[17:19:01] <wiesand> Andrew actually spotted a bug in the "Remove dead code" change. Fix in 14490.
[17:19:10] <cwills> I have nothing to add at the moment for  linux 5.11 .. I have a patch, but there is a code path I'm still trying to test
[17:19:21] <wiesand> Ok, thanks.
[17:19:36] <wiesand> FBSD catchup ist still on my to-do list.
[17:20:50] <wiesand> And I made a first attempt to pull up 10831. Alas, that's not a clean cherry-pick at all. I'll have a closer look, but I may need help with that one.
[17:21:37] <wiesand> Last item on my list: Any news/ETA re Big Sur?
[17:21:43] <meffie> ok, i (or andrew) can look
[17:22:04] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> AFAIK big sur is blocking on me
[17:22:24] <meffie> i think we just need some more time to review
[17:22:39] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I can bump the priority if we want; I don't think it was at the top of
the list I gave last week
[17:23:06] <meffie> packages with big sur patches are available for people to try.
[17:23:12] <wiesand> No hurry
[17:23:52] <wiesand> (just checking on what may make sense to ship with 1.8.8pre1)
[17:24:23] <wiesand> THAT'S ALL I HAVE FOR TODAY.
[17:24:47] <wiesand> (stuck caps lock, no intention to shout, sorry)
[17:25:17] <meffie> oh, i was wondering.
[17:26:03] <meffie> again, thank you all for getting the fix out so fast.
[17:26:04] <mvita2> I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Ben, Stephan, Anders, Mike, Cheyenne, Andrew, Marcio, and Jeffrey for all their contributions yesterday.  And to anyone else I left out.
[17:28:35] <wiesand> It was good to see that the project and the ecosystem are still alive. But I guess we're all ok with waiting a couple of years before the next proff.
[17:28:48] <wiesand> proof
[17:28:58] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> no need to rush it, yes.
[17:29:28] <meffie> agreed.
[17:29:51] <mvita2> future fuzz-testing is in the works
[17:30:04] <wiesand> I'm a bit surprised it happened 8:25 thursday, not, say, 16:45 friday ;-)
[17:30:38] <mvita2> "future"  - no pun intended
[17:30:51] <cwills> yeah.. can't wait for 2020 to be over.  2020-12-45 wasn't a good day
[17:31:28] <wiesand> uh?
[17:31:44] <wiesand> ah...
[17:32:03] <mvita2> yeah.
[17:32:37] <wiesand> On the bright side, today they dug a trench through my front yard for the fibre optics cable
[17:33:29] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> ooh, that's probably the most exciting reason to have a trench in
one's yard
[17:33:40] <mvita2> congratulations!
[17:33:45] <cwills> +1
[17:34:29] <meffie> nice! more bits per second?
[17:35:02] <cwills> Just trying to make light work for his network?
[17:35:41] <wiesand> yes - up to 8 Gbps, but I'll leave it at 250 Mbps for the time being
[17:35:47] <meffie> vos releases are going to scream over that fiber ;)
[17:37:19] <wiesand> I always run those remotely at the lab. Stil faster.
[17:37:46] <wiesand> But it will help with uploads to g.c.o.
[17:38:35] <wiesand> But enough of this OT stuff. Adjourn?
[17:38:43] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> ok for me
[17:38:49] <mvita2> concur
[17:38:57] <meffie> second. have a safe weekend.
[17:39:33] <wiesand> Let's adjourn then. Thanks a lot everyone, have a nice weekend, please stay safe!
[17:39:41] <cwills> thanks you too.
[17:39:48] <cwills> hopefully it's a quiet weekend
[17:39:50] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Thanks everyone, and have a good weekend
