[11:51:49] mvita joins the room
[12:04:16] mvita leaves the room
[12:58:43] wiesand joins the room
[13:01:34] <wiesand> Hmm, I thought the US were on DST already
[13:06:44] meffie joins the room
[13:07:03] <meffie> sorry, just a bit late this am.
[13:08:08] <meffie> yes, we are on dst now. but my body still thinks it is standard time.
[13:11:29] <wiesand> sorry, was distracted
[13:11:55] <wiesand> no ben, no mark… oh well, I'm afraid there isn't that much to discuss today anyway
[13:12:32] <wiesand> Im still behind on everything. I hope that will change in the next days.
[13:14:24] <meffie> ok, is there anything i can do to help?
[13:15:17] <meffie> or there something mark/andrew/marcio could do?
[13:17:35] <meffie> oh, ben posted mail saying he is stuck at an airport, so will not be able to attend today.
[13:19:34] <wiesand> thanks for the offer, but I really ought to get my homework done, that's all
[13:19:53] <wiesand> and you're all too far away to give me a kick ;-)
[13:20:14] <meffie> ok, just wanted to be sure we didnt miss something, or if there was something new we could do.
[13:20:51] <meffie> it looks like the linux-rc builders are still happy, so that is good news.
[13:21:34] <wiesand> Thanks. I'll ask for help when it makes sense. The current blocker is to update my bookkeeping though.
[13:21:38] <meffie> i believe the rhel 7.5 beta thing was merged on 1.8.x. do you want mark to push the backport to the 1.6.x gerrit branch?
[13:22:51] <wiesand> It may clash with other changes in the queue… and I want to test it myself first.
[13:23:14] <meffie> ah, ok, i'll let mark know.
[13:24:30] <wiesand> ok, seems like the ones it clashes ("path conflicts") with are already merged, but as I said the next thing to do is update my bookeeping of this stuff
[13:24:50] <wiesand> I don't expect serious troubles "backporting" it
[13:25:04] <wiesand> Of course it's on the must have list
[13:25:07] <meffie> no problem. i really dont know if that patch requires any backporting work.
[13:25:31] <meffie> if you have a question about backporting, i'm sure mark can help with that.
[13:25:46] <wiesand> sure, and I won't hesitate to ask
[13:26:40] <meffie> ok great. thank you.
[13:28:01] <meffie> i do not have any updates today for buildbot. i was going to be adding some more builders soon (e.g. solaris 11.4, maybe some more linux boxes)
[13:28:28] <meffie> i think we need a debian 9.x and an ubuntu 17
[13:29:03] <wiesand> sounds reasonable
[13:30:10] <meffie> an on the master branch, we continue push cleanups for solaris. ben merged a few already.
[13:30:47] <meffie> and i started pushing the "ipv4" cleanups to master, since 1.8.0 is close now.
[13:30:53] <wiesand> I saw those, but I'll ignore them for the time being, until the existing backlog is cleared
[13:31:19] <meffie> yes, they are not urgent, i just wanted to get them into gerrit for others to review.
[13:32:01] <meffie> is there anything else?
[13:32:28] <wiesand> when you push anything new that you think should go into a 1.6 release urgently, please add a note
[13:33:00] <meffie> excellent idea.
[13:33:32] <wiesand> folks here have started hitting the latest systemd issue Dirk brought up on -info
[13:34:08] <wiesand> based on that discussion, I told them that it seems unlikely that openafs will/can do anything about it
[13:34:38] <meffie> which issue?
[13:34:42] <wiesand> (since it would effectively disable PAGs)
[13:35:40] <wiesand> https://lists.openafs.org/pipermail/openafs-info/2018-March/042372.html
[13:35:59] <meffie> ah, that one, thanks.
[13:40:46] <meffie> not sure what we can do about this
[13:40:47] <wiesand> Unless you have a remark on that, I think we're finished for today.
[13:41:19] <meffie> seems like a lot of finger pointing; systemd, pam, afs
[13:41:42] <meffie> i'll ask andrew if he has any ideas.
[13:41:52] <wiesand> good idea
[13:42:40] <wiesand> I think the only solution for now is to follow Jeffrey's advice and effectively disable PAGS (during login) administratively
[13:43:26] <wiesand> the systemd's folks' stance is "we have no clue of afs and kerberos"
[13:43:29] <meffie> there's a mention about using dbus-x11 to fix it.
[13:44:08] <wiesand> that effectively disables that great new systemd feature
[13:44:40] <meffie> ah, are there any great systemd features, seems to be nothing but endless trouble.
[13:44:58] <wiesand> not sure what the drawbacks actually are, but it seems likely to seriously break things down the road, if not today
[13:48:54] <meffie> seems like there are things we could do. i'll talk to andrew.
[13:49:18] <wiesand> Thanks.
[13:49:32] <meffie> ok, have a good weekend wiesand.
[13:49:55] <wiesand> One last thing maybe: I'm failing to remember why b0461f2def17fe3d3f49e51e3c4a1df81a921eee hasn't made it into 1.6.x
[13:50:22] <meffie> oh looking
[13:52:16] <meffie> i'm pretty this is 1.8.x only; i'll double check with andrew.
[13:52:46] <wiesand> thanks
[13:53:29] <meffie> pretty sure
[13:53:29] <wiesand> (it's one of two changes preventing a clean cherry-pick of the EL7.5 fix)
[13:53:49] <meffie> ah
[13:56:49] <wiesand> Let's adjourn. Thanks a lot for being here today.
[13:57:06] <meffie> have a good weekend
[13:57:35] <wiesand> bye
[13:57:39] wiesand leaves the room
[14:00:20] mvita joins the room
[14:01:55] wiesand joins the room
[14:02:24] <wiesand> MIke, are you still there?
[14:04:23] <wiesand> If so: 428ab5deff8efa7334987d2fd2fbc4db053a5562 is the second change slightly conflicting with the EL7.5 fix, and I'm wondering why it hasn't made it into 1.6 either.
[14:04:52] wiesand leaves the room
[14:24:30] <mvita> (from the archives):
[14:24:38] <mvita> [13:32:28] <https://conference.openafs.org/release-team@conference.openafs.org/2018-03-16.html#13:32:28.106630> <wiesand> when you push anything new that you think should go into a 1.6 release urgently, please add a note
[13:33:00] <https://conference.openafs.org/release-team@conference.openafs.org/2018-03-16.html#13:33:00.598017> <meffie> excellent idea.
[14:25:58] <mvita> Could we do something like Linux does?  Mainline fixes may be "marked for stable" - I think they just forward the patch to a "stable" mailing list.
[14:26:35] <mvita> is there a way we could do that in gerrit?  maybe by using topic branch as a tag (which it actually is, if I understand correctly)
[14:27:02] <mvita> but I don't know if a given commit may belong to more than one topic (have multiple tags)
[14:27:13] <meffie> i was thinking just a gerrit comment; target: 1.6.x
[14:28:17] <meffie> gerrit does not have any extra meta fields as far as i can find.
[14:28:34] <mvita> why not the topic ?
[14:28:58] <mvita> comments can't be search, topic tags can be searched
[14:29:06] <mvita> searched
[14:29:57] <meffie> yes, true, but topics are meant to show related commits
[14:30:16] <meffie> it's possible to have a topic and only some of those are for 1.6.
[14:30:19] <mvita> sure.
[14:30:37] <mvita> yes, I see that now - it looks like a given commit can only belong to one topic
[14:30:48] <meffie> we can search comments, it's just more work
[14:30:55] <mvita> because of the way it's implemented
[14:31:09] <mvita> bummer
[14:31:18] <mvita> stars are not good either
[14:31:19] <meffie> well, by design.
[14:31:42] <meffie> we just need some meta data.
[14:31:47] <mvita> aye
[14:32:12] <meffie> the rest api is really useful. it could be tied to meta data.
[14:34:19] <meffie> also the dashboards are useful, but i think we'd need more metadata to make the work the way we need.
[14:34:34] <mvita> perusing gerrit plugins now
[14:36:36] <meffie> yeah, there are plugins too.
[14:36:55] <meffie> but i didnt see one for metadata. maybe i missed it.
[14:37:09] <mvita> I haven't either - yet
[14:37:35] <mvita> doc claims the NoteDB backend is extensible (via plugins?)
[14:47:53] <mvita> maybe:   https://gerrit-review.googlesource.com/admin/repos/plugins/task
[14:48:13] <mvita> or: https://gerrit-review.googlesource.com/admin/repos/plugins/reviewnotes
[14:48:51] <mvita> I'm not familiar w/ gerrit internals so I'm not sure I understand either of these
[14:49:49] <mvita> ok, later.
[14:52:00] <meffie> ok, thanks
[14:54:51] mvita leaves the room
[14:57:59] mvita joins the room
[15:30:49] meffie leaves the room
