[04:27:24] Cheyenne leaves the room
[16:01:40] Cheyenne joins the room
[16:01:46] <Cheyenne> Hello all
[16:02:16] <mvitale> whoa, look at the time
[16:02:50] <Cheyenne> when?
[16:03:37] <mvitale> whenever
[16:06:05] <mvitale> <crickets>
[16:06:08] wiesand joins the room
[16:06:26] <mvitale> greetings Stephan!
[16:06:33] <Cheyenne> Hello Stephan!
[16:06:46] <mvitale> how does your garden grow?
[16:18:55] wiesand joins the room
[16:19:27] <mvitale> We are not expecting Mike today, and it seems Ben is not really present.  Stephan, did you have any topics today?
[16:20:22] <wiesand> Hello, sorry for being that late. My old MacBook is letting me down, and the new one (shiny M1) IS DRIVING ME CRAZY.
[16:20:44] <mvitale> hmm, yes M1 has some edges
[16:20:50] <mvitale> I have one too
[16:23:35] <wiesand> My major (maybe only) topic is 1.8.9pre1. Please have a look at  https://gerrit.openafs.org/#/c/15126/
[16:23:45] <mvitale> looking
[16:24:24] <Cheyenne> On a 1.8.x related note.. I have a small change that fixes a configuration error when the gssapi libraries are not installed ( the 1.8.x only gerrit 12681 didn't clean up everything) -- probably doesn't need to go into 1.8.9 however..
[16:25:01] <Cheyenne> (looking at 15126)
[16:26:44] <wiesand> re 15126 : I just picked up the comments, and added info regarding the latest changes I merged today
[16:28:51] <Cheyenne> The note for 15128, might want to mention that this is for systemd.
[16:29:01] <Cheyenne> but everything else looks fine.
[16:30:44] <wiesand> "No longer have systemd load the openafs module during boot" ?
[16:31:31] <Cheyenne> Yeah!
[16:36:19] <wiesand> Ok, I'll make that change then, unless anything else comes up soon, merge NEWS and version strings, and continue to work on the prerelease (ask Ben for approval/tagging, upload to g.c.o., create a web change proposal, eventually merge that and write to -announce)
[16:36:53] <Cheyenne> Sounds good.
[16:37:42] <Cheyenne> I'll push the change I mentioned above (gssapi) -- but as I said it doesn't need to go in at this time.
[16:37:56] <wiesand> Probably even "In Red Hat packaging, no longer have systemd load the openafs module during boot" ?
[16:38:09] <Cheyenne> Yeah.. that might be even better.
[16:39:06] <wiesand> There might be a pre2, and if it's sufficiently trivial, we can still smuggle it in between pre1 and 1.8.9 final ;-)
[16:39:39] <Cheyenne> Sounds good..  it is pretty trivial, but I want to give folks some time to chime in on it..
[16:40:02] <wiesand> way to go
[16:41:42] <wiesand> That's all I have on my mind today. Anything else to discuss?
[16:42:28] <Cheyenne> The 6.0 patch has been pushed.. I suspect that there will be feedback on the wording on the commit message...
[16:42:41] <wiesand> BTW the garden will hopefully recover since the draught is over for the time being.
[16:42:51] <mvitale> oh good
[16:43:01] <mvitale> we got some rain as well last weekend
[16:43:03] <Cheyenne> Yay.. for the moisture..
[16:43:41] <mvitale> nothing else from me - move to adjourn
[16:44:07] <Cheyenne> Sounds good.
[16:44:07] <wiesand> But I clearly lost significant parts of the lawn. No idea yet what to do about that. Maybe the landscaping has to be rethought thoroughly.
[16:44:49] <mvitale> sometimes the grass looks dead but it is merely dormant from the heat
[16:44:55] <Cheyenne> Oh.. I will be out next Thursday..
[16:45:08] <mvitale> as long as the roots are still alive it will green up again
[16:46:00] <wiesand> Thanks for the heads up. And Mark: there are stretches where there is no more grass, even though they were watered every second day
[16:46:30] <mvitale> hmmm, sorry to hear that
[16:49:12] <mvitale> but it is true that for some grasses, heat can be a factor even if there is sufficient water
[16:49:53] <wiesand> And Mail.app has become completely unusable. I can't send mail except through google. With all other SMTP servers, it will say "sending message 15kb", with the kb count updating by 1 everey few minutes, until sending finally fails. I never ever had such problems with a Mac before.
[16:50:52] <Cheyenne> I've never been able to use an Apple computer... everytime I touch one, it "breaks"
[16:51:32] <wiesand> Basically, where there's some shadow, even if just a few hours per day, the grass is still growing and will probably recover. But where there isn't, there's nothing left but sand after pulling out the weeds.
[16:51:35] <mvitale> I have had some mail.app problems too.  Sometimes I can "fix" it by taking the email account offline and online
[16:52:51] <mvitale> at least some of it is self-inflicted because I keep so many emails and use POP3 instead of IMAP
[16:53:18] <mvitale> so my mail.app mailboxes are quite large
[16:55:07] <wiesand> So are mine. But they haven't grown as fast as the hardware capabilities. And BTW "connection doctor" says  all is fine.
[16:56:22] <wiesand> Same settings as on my old macbook, where mail works perfectly - or would, if it wouldn't be giving up. If the M1 was my first Mac, I probably wouldn't ever try again.
[16:56:33] <mvitale> sorry, I don't have any other suggestions for the mail.app issues
[16:57:17] <wiesand> I'll resort to using the web interface of our mail system. Crying shame though.
[16:58:05] <wiesand> Enough of the whining. Let's adjourn. Thanks a lot Cheyenn & Mark!
[16:58:27] <mvitale> thank you!  have a good weekend
[16:58:34] <Cheyenne> Have a good week..
