[15:57:00] wiesand joins the room
[16:00:34] Cheyenne joins the room
[16:00:52] <Cheyenne> Hello everyone
[16:01:41] <wiesand> Hello - though "everyone" is probably just me
[16:02:05] <Cheyenne> I'm sure meffie will show up in a minute or two..
[16:02:20] meffie joins the room
[16:02:26] <meffie> here.
[16:03:06] <wiesand> Hello Mike
[16:03:22] <meffie> hello
[16:03:45] <wiesand> As you already noticed, I finally managed to prepare 1.8.9pre1
[16:04:23] <meffie> yes! thank you.
[16:04:44] <wiesand> The NEWS change is probably not quite final.
[16:08:35] <Cheyenne> I think it looks "okay", but I'll take a quick scan through the commits to see if there is anything noteworthy.
[16:08:42] <wiesand> I'm trying to dig up the two gerrits I had in mind to include, (as mentioned in a mail to Cheyenne)…
[16:10:06] <wiesand> 15046 (trivial) and 15068
[16:11:04] <Cheyenne> 15068 was pulled in..
[16:11:40] <Cheyenne> (it's currently the top commit in the openafs-stable-1_8_x)
[16:12:30] <wiesand> Right. Silly me.
[16:13:12] <Cheyenne> And 15046 is just cleanup of the CODING file -- no real source code changes..
[16:14:44] <meffie> yes, 15046 is not needed for 1.8.x i think.
[16:15:10] <meffie> it's just a readme for developers
[16:15:32] <meffie> s/a readme/a change to the readme/
[16:16:12] <wiesand> Exactly. But why not. I guess the actual 1.8.9pre1 release will rather happen next week, since we need Ben for the tag - and he has slightly different priorities right now.
[16:16:36] mvitale joins the room
[16:16:49] <mvitale> sorry I'm late, lost tack of time
[16:17:29] <wiesand> I agree that a minor change to CODING is not important for 1.8.x.
[16:18:20] <meffie> Yes, Ben is rather busy atm :)
[16:18:36] <meffie> Congrats Ben and Family
[16:19:11] <wiesand> Seconded. All the very best.
[16:21:57] <Cheyenne> On the linux front, I still need to do some work cleaning up the Linux 6.0 patch.. it's still fairly simple, but not as simple as I originally thought it would be
[16:23:14] <wiesand> OK. It could still make 1.8.9pre1, but I won't block on it.
[16:23:57] <Cheyenne> I wouldn't block 1.8.9 on the linux 6.0 stuff..
[16:24:19] <meffie> thanks!
[16:25:54] <wiesand> Do we agree that otherwise the current HEAD of 1_8_x + 15126 + 14810 could be released as 1.8.9pre1? Anything I missed?
[16:26:39] <meffie> i dont think so.
[16:26:47] <Cheyenne> I think you got everything..
[16:26:53] <meffie> yay
[16:27:16] <meffie> i mean, i dont think you missed anything.
[16:27:29] <wiesand> Jan would probably be a bit grumpy if we leave out 15092
[16:28:48] <Cheyenne> Oh... that might cause a problem (but I'm not sure).  on s390 I was having some problems starting the afs client if there isn't a little delay between loading the kernel module and starting afsd.. but I'm not sure what the real problem is.
[16:29:30] <meffie> sounds like we better keep it just on master for a bit longer.
[16:30:25] <wiesand> ok
[16:30:41] <meffie> but i'm guessing the s390 problem is something else, in any case we'd better get to the bottom of it.
[16:30:53] <Cheyenne> correct.
[16:31:32] <meffie> and in any case people are used to making local changes to the packaging, i'd hope.
[16:31:55] <wiesand> 14903 is not important?
[16:33:08] <meffie> hmm.
[16:33:43] <Cheyenne> it's an odd case.  it does fix a compiler problem *if* one builds the kernel module with clang (which requires additional work to do so)
[16:35:28] <meffie> based on the discussion there, it doesnt affect the behavior, but does help to build with clang.
[16:36:31] <wiesand> I pulled it up. Just -1 it if you think it shouldn't into 1.8.x.
[16:36:41] <meffie> ok, thanks.
[16:37:08] <wiesand> That's all I had on my agenda today.
[16:37:53] <Cheyenne> Ben Huntsman has been making good progress with AIX
[16:38:57] <meffie> yes!
[16:39:10] <wiesand> I noticed. I'm not sure how trivial or AIX-only the changes are. But eventually we'll want those in 1.8.x too.
[16:39:18] <meffie> waiting to here back if he can make buildbot. i'll ping him
[16:39:40] <meffie> the changes for AIX are pretty small/simple.
[16:39:56] <meffie> yes, i think we will want them in a stable branch.
[16:43:07] <wiesand> but that can probably wait until the whole stack is merged on master
[16:43:19] <Cheyenne> agreed
[16:43:23] <meffie> ok, i'll try to do a better job at release-team meeting notes. i'll post notes for this meeting to openafs-devel.
[16:44:00] <meffie> yes, aix can wait. i'd say we'd want a buildbot first too ;)
[16:45:31] <meffie> thanks for getting the pre-release ready Stephan!  i have nothing else.
[16:45:43] <Cheyenne> nothing else here either..
[16:46:51] <wiesand> Fine, Then I can water the garden while there's still daylight :)
[16:47:06] <mvitale> nothing to add
[16:47:17] <mvitale> thank you everyone!
[16:48:11] <wiesand> Let's adjourn then. Thanks a lot everybody. I'll ask Ben to have a look at 1.8.9pre1 once he has recovered, and then continue with it.
[16:48:19] <wiesand> Thanks a lot everyone!
[16:49:03] wiesand leaves the room
[16:52:28] <Cheyenne> have a good week
[16:53:57] meffie leaves the room
