[15:45:01] Cheyenne joins the room
[15:56:08] meffie joins the room
[15:59:04] <meffie> hello
[15:59:12] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> greetings
[16:02:42] <Cheyenne> Hello all
[16:07:01] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> linux-5.19 changes merged earlier this morning :)
[16:07:14] <Cheyenne> Thanks
[16:07:50] <Cheyenne> I'm looking at the put_page "question" that was mentioned in the 5.18 code reviews
[16:09:39] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> thanks for that, it seems like it could be a rather "interesting"
question to be looking at
[16:12:50] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I've been in something of a holding pattern otherwise, though, with
some other commitments taking a lot of time.
[16:13:10] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> It also looks like Stephan isn't here yet; I hope he's been able to
stay healthy.
[16:13:42] <meffie> yes, i hope too.
[16:14:17] <meffie> oh, before i forget, Ben can you do a 'vos release www.workshop' <http://www.workshop'> in g.c.o?
[16:15:27] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> My client is unfortunately borked at the moment and I'll need to
schedule a reboot ... I think I probably should have taken a few more
of the compiler-appeasement patches while adding 5.18 kernel support
to the debian package, as the panic message was something about an
array overrun detected...
[16:15:55] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> But I will try to remember to do that when I get a chance (might be a
couple days)
[16:16:01] <meffie> ok, thanks!
[16:16:34] <meffie> yes, when every you have a chance is good.
[16:17:12] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> While I'm happy to linger in the channel in case Stephan arrives, were
there other topics we wanted to cover today?
[16:18:03] <meffie> well, i had a bee in my bonnet about 'make man-pages' :)
[16:19:14] <meffie> and marcio has updated the wiki "whiteboard" with changes for 1.8.x for macos
[16:19:15] <Cheyenne> I haven't done a build test against the latest and greatest 5.19 for a couple of days.. but none of the linux 5.19 commits seems to touch anything that we use..
[16:19:23] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> > make man-pages
That seems defensible :)
[16:19:35] <meffie> ok, good.
[16:20:32] <meffie> looking at the man page stuff, it seems that was done is a different tree when russ converted from ibm html docs to pod. and at that time we didnt have autoconf yet.
[16:21:12] <meffie> so he just wrote some scripts to convert pod to man in batch
[16:21:12] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> oh, interesting
[16:21:41] <meffie> which seem to be why we have 2 tarballs in our source distribution.
[16:21:49] <meffie> s/seem/seems/
[16:22:00] <meffie> "historical reasons"
[16:25:05] <meffie> as a followup, if the 'make man pages' goes in, i'd like to change the pod sources so we use the actual autoconf placeholders for the installation paths.
[16:25:26] <meffie> now that we have autoconf you know (20 years later)
[16:26:09] <meffie> (that would have avoided that bug we had in the debian man pages.)
[16:26:28] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> That seems to make sense as a good idea
[16:26:41] <meffie> ok, thanks.
[16:28:48] <meffie> that's all i have. just getting back to my gerrit review/update backlog now.
[16:28:59] wiesand joins the room
[16:29:16] <meffie> welcome wiesand!
[16:29:20] <Cheyenne> so.. looking through linux 5.0 source.. it does appear that if we remove a page from the lru then we do need to do a put_page
[16:29:51] <Cheyenne> So.. I'll push a commit after I've ran some tests
[16:29:52] <wiesand> sorry
[16:30:01] <meffie> thanks Cheyenne!
[16:31:06] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Thanks Cheyenne!
[16:32:59] <wiesand> My mother managed to contract covid-19 - spent a lot of time on the phone and then fell asleep…
[16:34:04] <Cheyenne> wiesand: sorry to hear.  Hope she heals quickly
[16:34:04] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> That's sad to hear that your mother caught covid ... and sleep is
pretty important.
[16:34:22] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I hope she can get good treatment and recover quickly
[16:35:18] <wiesand> Well right now its' turning worse, and getting treatment is "interesting".
[16:36:13] <meffie> oh, sorry.
[16:36:32] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> oh no!
[16:39:05] <wiesand> Oh yes. Lots of medication available, with first doses having to be discarded in January, but getting it to patients is really difficult. I'm royally upset.
[16:41:29] <wiesand> Right now I'm waiting for a call from either herself, her doctor, or the hospital.
[16:42:43] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Feel free to do some venting here.  Otherwise, your family is the top
priority.  I don't think we have anything urgent to discuss here.
[16:48:14] <wiesand> That venting already felt good, thanks a lot for listening. Please understand I don't have a mind for other stuff right now. I have a hard time believing it - we're one of the wealthiest countries in the world, but regarding covid we obviously threw in the towel.
[16:49:16] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I definitely understand and am quite sympathetic.
[16:50:34] <Cheyenne> understand.. As Ben mentioned family is most important.
[16:50:56] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I can also offer to put some time into going through Cheyenne's linear
1.8.x stack and merging things, if that would take some pressure off
your mind, and we have agreement to do that.  But it sounds like now
is probably not the time to think/talk about that option.
[16:55:54] meffie leaves the room: Replaced by new connection
[16:55:55] meffie joins the room
[16:57:16] <wiesand> Thanks Ben, I'll get back on you. I had reserved this afternoon for doing that, but well… maybe it will distract me a bit tomorrow. Looks like we have most everything we need for 1.8.8.x in gerrit now. Frankly I don't quite get the talk about Linux 5.0 I read in the scrollback?
[16:58:00] <meffie> andrew noticed a different bug while reviewing the gerrits.
[16:58:10] <Cheyenne> I'm trying to answer a question that was raised by Ben and Andrew
[16:58:29] <meffie> so it will be a new fix on master, then 1.8.x if i understand.
[16:58:44] <Cheyenne> yeah.. looking like it will be a one liner
[16:59:10] <meffie> the gerrits we have are correct, this will be an additional fix, correct?
[16:59:21] <Cheyenne> correct
[16:59:28] <wiesand> Thanks!
[16:59:31] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Right.
[16:59:45] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> (I am going to shift most of my attention over to my next meeting.
Will read things here eventually, though.)
[17:01:09] <wiesand> Thanks again Ben! From my point of view (admittedly with a very limited angle today), there's nothing else to discuss. Anyone?
[17:01:10] <meffie> ok, going to sign off. have a good evening. i do hope your mother gets well soon wiesand.
[17:01:48] <wiesand> Let's adjourn then. Thanks a lot everyone!
[17:02:00] meffie leaves the room
[17:03:04] wiesand leaves the room
