[17:00:28] wiesand joins the room
[17:00:37] <mvitale> greetings
[17:00:42] <wiesand> Hello
[17:01:02] <mvitale> I hope and trust that you are well today, Stephan
[17:01:16] <Cheyenne> Hello all
[17:01:16] <mvitale> it's too bad Ben is not
[17:01:54] <meffie> hello
[17:02:07] <wiesand> I'm well… kind of. So, not really well, but nothing serious.
[17:02:20] <wiesand> But what about Ben?
[17:02:49] <wiesand> Ah, found the mail.
[17:02:56] <meffie> he just sent a message to the release-team mail list to send his regrets
[17:03:23] <wiesand> I had my extra nap a couple of hours ago.
[17:03:41] <mvitale> nice
[17:04:35] <wiesand> I don't have much to report today, though I'm still making some progress behind the scenes.
[17:05:36] <wiesand> A few changes already pulled up need review: https://gerrit.openafs.org/#/q/status:open+project:openafs+branch:openafs-stable-1_8_x That would help
[17:06:33] <Cheyenne> master and 1.8.x still build cleanly with tagged v5.16 linux kernel.
[17:07:13] <wiesand> I finally gave up on 10831 for the time being. Backporting it would probably not be that difficult, but pulling in all the other changes missing on 1.8.x seems infeasible.
[17:07:27] <wiesand> Cheyenne: good news, thanks!
[17:07:45] <Cheyenne> however very minor build problem with 5.17 pre rc0 -- -Wcast-function-type was turned on and 2 heimdal files caused some grief (adding @CFLAGS_NOERROR@ to the makefiles fixed the problem)
[17:08:42] <mvitale> I should be able to review the new 1.8.x pullups this afternoon
[17:09:41] <Cheyenne> and if the linux header reorg that is currently in RFC status gets pulled in.. I don't think it's going to be a huge problem -- just ugly (trying to think of ways to maybe consolidate all the #if's that will be needed)
[17:10:47] <mvitale> <stepping away for a delivery, brb>
[17:11:01] <wiesand> Guess I better get those other header cleanups pulled up before…
[17:11:10] <wiesand> Mike: Thanks for 14880
[17:12:08] <meffie> you are welcome.
[17:12:29] <Cheyenne> I see that Ben pulled in the afs.h fix..
[17:13:32] <wiesand> 14857, good. It's obviously high on my list. Still have to check for clashes though.
[17:14:52] <wiesand> Ah, lots. Oh well.
[17:18:11] <Cheyenne> it's mostly just moving a block of code into the kernel specific block
[17:18:20] <wiesand> I still owe you that tidied list of changes I have on the plate for 1.8.9, sorry.
[17:18:45] <wiesand> I think we decided that 14816 is not suitable for stable, right?
[17:20:26] <mvitale> <back>
[17:22:23] <meffie> i think so
[17:22:28] <Cheyenne> re:14816 yes -- it appears that the general thought is to hold off..
[17:23:08] <mvitale> agreed
[17:23:41] <wiesand> Ok, I'll abandon it.
[17:24:23] <wiesand> Another "maybe"  on my list is "14195, + maybe the rest of  https://gerrit.openafs.org/#/q/status:open+project:openafs+branch:master+topic:cache-metrics"
[17:24:59] <wiesand> Ben already acked 14195, but what do you think about the rest of those?
[17:26:47] <meffie> looks like it would be a nice feature for 1.8.x
[17:26:49] <mvitale> 14817 needs some more work
[17:27:03] <mvitale> but once merged to master, it would be nice for 1.8.x
[17:27:34] <mvitale> I don't know if the bug it addresses actually causes problem in real life, but it would be nice for 1.8.x
[17:29:15] <mvitale> the cache metrics themselves (14200) would be nice for 1.8.x, but I wouldn't be heartbroken if they were deferred to the next 1.9.x
[17:31:54] <wiesand> ok, I have yet to check how much trouble those make
[17:32:49] <Cheyenne> Oh.. 14838 might be nice .. cleans up some autoconf warnings
[17:33:58] <wiesand> ok
[17:35:01] <meffie> topic:gcc11-warnings would be good for 1.8.x.
[17:35:20] <meffie> still waiting on ben for the last two to be merged tho.
[17:35:46] <Cheyenne> getting some errors with clang-13 and some flags (investigating)
[17:36:06] <meffie> those patches allow us to build cleanly on recent versions of fedora
[17:37:17] <wiesand> 14838 and gcc11-warnings noted
[17:37:36] <meffie> thanks
[17:39:08] <Cheyenne> looks like clang-13 has "-Wunused-but-set-variable" enabled
[17:42:19] <wiesand> excuse me for a minute or two…
[17:44:28] <mvitale> long-term candidates for 1.8.x:  deason's and meffie's vldb_check improvements
[17:44:44] <mvitale> they have to get into master first, of course
[17:46:04] <meffie> yes
[17:48:24] <wiesand> do you have a topic name for those?
[17:48:44] <mvitale> deason's:  no
[17:48:51] <mvitale> meffies aren't in gerrit yet
[17:49:28] <Cheyenne> clang patches are already in master.. 14775
[17:50:04] <mvitale> deason:  14865, 6, 7
[17:50:22] <mvitale> gah, typo
[17:50:24] <meffie> 14845
[17:50:36] <mvitale> 14845, 6, 7
[17:51:02] <mvitale> oh brother
[17:51:20] <wiesand> 14775 noted
[17:51:28] <meffie> 46 is a fix, the others are cleanup and testing.
[17:51:37] <meffie> er, 45 is the fix
[17:51:39] <mvitale> 14845  14846  14867
[17:54:06] <wiesand> 14845  14846  14867 noted
[17:56:12] <wiesand> Ok, thanks for the additional homework ;-)
[17:56:22] <wiesand> Anything else to discuss today?
[17:56:50] <mvitale> nothing from me
[17:57:00] <meffie> i have nothing.
[17:57:22] <Cheyenne> nothing else from me..
[17:57:37] <wiesand> Fine, let's adjourn then. Thanks a lot all!
[17:57:53] <Cheyenne> have a safe week everyone :)
[17:58:00] <meffie> thanks all.
[17:58:06] meffie leaves the room
