[11:48:12] mbarbosa joins the room
[13:51:42] Cheyenne joins the room
[15:26:37] meffie joins the room
[15:57:13] wiesand joins the room
[16:00:12] <wiesand> Hello
[16:00:15] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> greetings
[16:00:26] <meffie> hello
[16:00:45] <Cheyenne> hello all
[16:01:00] <wiesand> Hmm, my attempts to sign in to gerrit via launchpad today are being rejected with "Bad Bot, go away!"
[16:01:18] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> ... huh.
[16:01:40] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Is it a launchpad page or a gerrit page?
[16:01:52] <wiesand> Which isn't exactly helpful. And yes, I'm reasonably sure that there were no failed login attempts from my side.
[16:01:57] <meffie> just logged in via launchpad
[16:02:10] <wiesand> It's a launchpad page.
[16:03:46] <Cheyenne> try clearing browser cache?
[16:04:08] <wiesand> changed my launchpad password, now it works...
[16:04:22] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> phew
[16:07:07] <wiesand> Ok. No progress here in the past week again. Sorry. But then I did make up my miind to go with Cheyenne's "cheap but slightly dirty" backport of the Linux 5.15 change in 14831.
[16:07:47] <meffie> great!
[16:07:52] <wiesand> Lacks review though, as does 14828. NEWS still to be written too.
[16:08:00] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> That was the one with the super-janky osi_print_msg (not exactly that
name)?
[16:08:24] <Cheyenne> yeah... the one that looked like someone was trying to introduce LISP into C code
[16:08:25] <wiesand> So, no 1.8.8.1 today, but "within the next days" should be feasible.
[16:08:38] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> yay!
[16:08:44] <meffie> excellent
[16:09:19] <meffie> fedora users will be thrilled
[16:09:23] <wiesand> And everything else (except Linux 5.14 - 14830) I'd leave to 1.8.9
[16:09:43] <Cheyenne> The latest Fedora just started shipping with 5.14
[16:10:11] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I've had 5.14 on debian unstable for a while now
[16:10:34] <wiesand> Fedora folks better be prepared to deal with the bleeding edge… But I agree it's about time.
[16:11:49] <wiesand> So, plan?
[16:12:16] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Plan.
[16:12:48] <wiesand> and BTW it was osi_Msg()
[16:14:14] <wiesand> Anything else regarding stable to discuss today?
[16:15:23] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Not from me ... but I don't have much to discuss at all, having been
sick-ish for most of the week
[16:15:24] <wiesand> IF not, on to 1.9/master?
[16:16:00] <wiesand> Ouch. Still recovering, I know where you are… get well soon!
[16:16:10] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> thank you!
[16:17:11] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think I did get to review a small handful of things before the
illness really hit, but probably not much noteworthy for this
audience.
[16:17:22] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> So, I think that's a jump straight to "any other topics for today?"
[16:17:23] <Cheyenne> I've started doing builds against 5.16-pre-rc -- master builds cleanly (checking 1.8.x now).  However there was a default linux config change that turns on preemptive kernel which breaks access to some of the rcu functions (w/preemptive rcu is GPL only)
[16:17:56] <wiesand> yikes
[16:18:22] <wiesand> Any idea how to deal with this?
[16:18:59] <Cheyenne> -- the preemptive kernel has for some time made the rcu functions (I forget exact names of the 2).  And no distro that I'm aware of has turned on preemptive kernel as a default
[16:19:46] <Cheyenne> so I think at the moment it's a "watch and see" on the distros
[16:20:06] <wiesand> wasn't it rcu_{read,write}_lock ?
[16:20:12] <Cheyenne> yeah
[16:21:25] <wiesand> well, sooner or later distros will make the change
[16:21:29] <Cheyenne> I also pushed a clean up commit that removes src/JAVA
[16:22:28] <wiesand> Another case of "much desired, but is it suitable for stable?"
[16:23:01] <Cheyenne> (just quick note .. 1.8.x w/5.15 patch still builds cleanly with 5.16-pre-rc
[16:23:37] <meffie> well, i think src/JAVE has been dead code for about twenty years?
[16:23:38] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think I would default to "remove src/JAVA is not suitable for
stable" but could be convinced otherwise, e.g., with demonstration of
unfitness for purpose
[16:23:46] <wiesand> Very good, thanks. Affirms that we should get out 1.88.1 a.s.a.p.
[16:24:14] <wiesand> Ben: I guessed ;-)
[16:25:34] <wiesand> I also think it's not a major source of code skew. And can be revisited if that ever changes.
[16:26:23] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Yes, agreed on both counts
[16:27:37] <meffie> agree
[16:29:08] <wiesand> "Anything else to discuss today?"
[16:30:06] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> (not from here)
[16:30:39] <meffie> none here
[16:30:50] <wiesand> Let's adjourn then, and grant Ben and me some extra rest ;-)
[16:30:57] <Cheyenne> none here
[16:31:03] <meffie> hope ben and wiesand get well soon!
[16:31:10] <wiesand> Thanks a lot everybody!
[16:36:16] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> thanks everyone!
[16:36:41] <Cheyenne> take care everyone..
[16:46:14] meffie leaves the room

[17:56:06] meffie leaves the room
