[11:48:51] mbarbosa joins the room
[15:32:50] meffie joins the room
[15:59:18] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> greetings (a minute early)
[15:59:31] <mvita2> hello
[15:59:45] <mvita2> how are you Ben?
[16:00:34] wiesand joins the room
[16:00:53] <wiesand> Hello
[16:01:10] <wiesand> Hmm, is Ben still under the weather?
[16:01:33] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I'm okay, just putting on the kettle for some tea
[16:01:53] <wiesand> Very good
[16:02:30] <wiesand> So, I actually got something done since the last meeting…
[16:03:09] <meffie> yay, thank you.
[16:03:32] <wiesand> Merged away the FBSD stacks up for 1.8.x - we now have buildbot +1s again, including the FBSD builder
[16:03:45] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Yay!
[16:04:00] <wiesand> Huge thanks to Mike & Andrew (and anyone else involved)!
[16:04:21] <meffie> great news. thanks
[16:04:47] <mvita2> calloo callay
[16:05:09] <wiesand> I then started to work through the 1.8.9 wish list. Admittedly, picking some low hanging fruit first. Current result: https://gerrit.openafs.org/#/q/status:open+project:openafs+branch:openafs-stable-1_8_x
[16:05:29] <meffie> sounds like we should get the freebsd 13 builder online soon. ;)
[16:05:45] <wiesand> 14594 is still a bit special, will try to tend to it soon.
[16:06:04] <wiesand> Ben: yes ;-)
[16:07:03] <wiesand> The rest I mostly expect to go largely undisputed (review review review…) with the obvious exception of 14816
[16:08:59] <wiesand> I'll happily abandon that one if that's the consensus. Just pulled it because 1) it was related 2) it removes dead code and thus potential code skew 3) I'm "not quite convinced" it could possibly be a problem
[16:09:22] <meffie> understood
[16:10:04] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> The main thing I'd be worried about in 14816 is boring ABI-stability
topics; if we remove formerly-public symbols then we bump the version
of the library, and that's a bit of a heavy hammer to use in the
middle of a release series
[16:10:19] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I will try to look at the specifics and think it through more
[16:10:53] <wiesand> I mean, we just culled support for several older FBSD releases. What's the probability that anything outside the tree ever used multi_End_ignore?
[16:11:43] <mvita2> (checking OSD)
[16:11:54] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> maybe 1%?
[16:12:55] <mvita2> ahh, it's probably moot for OSD, I'm not aware of it having support for 1.8.x
[16:13:11] <mvita2> oh, wait, I'm mistaken
[16:13:29] <mvita2> it was ported to 1.8.2
[16:13:44] <wiesand> "ABI stability within the stable series" makes sense of course. If the stable series just wouldn't tend to be the last and current one for just too many years…
[16:14:22] <wiesand> OSD?
[16:14:45] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> object storage ... I forget what the D is for
[16:14:55] <meffie> device
[16:15:11] <wiesand> Ah, Hartmut's Baby?
[16:15:19] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Hartmut Reuter's
yeah, that
[16:16:10] <wiesand> Real pity that it never made it into openafs!
[16:17:30] <wiesand> But as I said, I don't have any hard feelings about abandoning 14816 if you think it's the right thing to dao.
[16:17:33] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> In some sense ... but requiring the ability to maintain it as a
precondition of accepting it into openafs still seems to have been the
right decision
[16:17:59] <wiesand> And that's about what I have for today.
[16:18:35] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> My gut says that leaving 14816 out of the stable branch is the right
thing, but I will think about it more.
[16:19:07] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I do have one bit of 1.8.x news; after a couple people prodded me, I
finally remembered to package 1.8.8 for debian
[16:19:19] <meffie> thanks!
[16:19:27] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> (The actual release came during the debian release freeze, which
complicated doing the packaging at that time)
[16:19:28] <mvita2> OSD references to multi_End_Ignore are limited to the ones removed by the prerequisite OpenAFS patch 14185  (no additional refs)
[16:20:30] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> thanks for looking, Mark
[16:20:31] <wiesand> Thanks Mark
[16:21:41] <meffie> kaduk, minor minor thing. i noticed when building debs locally, i had to add 'ukernel.so' and 'ukernel.pm' to the 'not-installed' file, if i happen to have swig installed.
[16:21:58] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Ah, I can see how that would happen.
[16:22:22] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> official packages are built in dedicated chroots, so won't have
extraneous stuff installed, but I'm happy to patch the configure
invocation to force that off
[16:22:32] <meffie> not a problem for me, just to let you know in case someone complains :)
[16:22:55] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> *nods*
[16:23:41] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Sliding over to master, I did do a few things this week... some of the
dead-code-removal and adjacent stuff got merged, and I think there
were a couple other changes that got reviewed but not merged pending a
question or two
[16:25:25] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> But I don't think I actually *did* anything else noteworthy
[16:26:00] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> There was some stuff that came into RT, and I will try to book some
time over the weekend to look at it.
[16:26:16] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Otherwise, I think I just have the usual "anything in particular to
prioritize?" question.
[16:26:50] <meffie> thanks for merging the bos.c string improves.
[16:26:55] <meffie> improvements
[16:27:07] <mvita2> ugg, rt.central.org has no TLS 1.2?
[16:27:14] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> rt-02.central.org does
[16:27:31] <wiesand> not sure about the priority, but I noticed that 14623 14624 are on the wish list but not yet merged on master
[16:27:41] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I've got 14766 (let bnode operations allocate output strings) open to
look at "next"
[16:27:47] <mvita2> oh, I keep forgetting about that one
[16:28:19] <meffie> thank you! i have a stack of changes in github after those, but i hope we can merge these in batches.
[16:28:40] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Ah, thanks for the reminder.  I think those are open in tabs that in a
window buried by other tabs :-/
[16:28:54] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> batches makes sense, yes, so thanks for that
[16:29:16] <meffie> i tried to group stacks by "sub-topic"
[16:29:45] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> makes sense :)
[16:30:26] <wiesand> Anything else to discuss today?
[16:30:35] <mvita2> regarding 135265 (security release):  we were able to secure some funding for the various security issues
[16:30:47] <meffie> in other news, marcio reported success on the upcoming macos release. just an issue during shutdown he is working on.
[16:30:49] <mvita2> so Andrew and I plan to spend some time on those soon
[16:30:55] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Oof, 14629 had me saying "I was ready to +2 PS4 as a rebase of PS2
with my question having been answered, but [...] I'd like another pair
of eyes before I merge, though." and it got another pair of eyes and
then I failed to notice
[16:31:24] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> thanks for that
[16:31:32] <wiesand> "upcoming macos release" == Monterey?
[16:31:40] <mvita2> yes
[16:31:41] <meffie> yes, i think so
[16:31:53] <meffie> (i cant keep track of the code names ;)
[16:32:08] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I haven't been able to keep track of code names for a while ... maybe
since big cats
[16:32:13] <meffie> (unless they are from the movie toy story)
[16:33:04] <wiesand> I can report that "Catalina" rendered my good old MacBook Pro fairly unusable ;-)
[16:33:05] <mvita2> oops sorry wrong RT - I meant 135254
[16:33:10] <mvita2> <squints>
[16:33:20] <mvita2> yes, 135254
[16:33:36] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I still need to go sprinkle more RT permissions, I think :(
[16:33:47] <mvita2> yes please!
[16:34:34] <wiesand> Be generous. The truly bad guys have them anyway, effectively.
[16:36:09] <wiesand> 2nd try: "Anything else to discuss today?"
[16:36:20] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> not from me...
[16:36:27] <meffie> i have nothing.
[16:36:51] <mvita2> fini
[16:37:37] <wiesand> Let's adjourn then. Caveat emptor: I may be late or even miss the meeting altogether next week.
[16:37:44] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Thanks for the heads-up
[16:38:19] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> and have a good week
[16:38:36] <wiesand> (will inform through the  release-team list a few hours before if ti happens)
[16:39:03] <meffie> thanks all have a good day/evening.
[16:39:09] <wiesand> Thanks a lot everybody!
[16:39:14] <mvita2> bye
[16:40:11] wiesand leaves the room
[16:42:54] meffie leaves the room
