[16:02:22] <meffie> hello
[16:02:24] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> greetings
[16:03:25] <Cheyenne> hello all
[16:03:36] <mvita2> <lurking>
[16:03:52] <wiesand> Hello
[16:03:59] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> <<The lurker lurks.>>
[16:04:22] <meffie> heh
[16:04:36] <wiesand> where's that from?
[16:05:33] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> It's mostly from nethack, I think.
[16:06:27] <wiesand> Ah. Too long ago…
[16:07:48] <wiesand> I don't have much to report today, sadly. Still updating the bookkeeping, and keeping an eye on the FBSD issue. According to Mike's last comment in 14773, quite a can of worms…
[16:08:20] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think I merged one or two FBSD things yesterday, at least
[16:08:26] <meffie> andrew says he can point out which ones we need from that stack to fix the builds on freebsd12
[16:08:46] <meffie> to build 1.8.x that is.
[16:08:57] <wiesand> That would help indeed.
[16:09:22] <meffie> i should set up a local freebsd12 machine here.
[16:09:55] <meffie> i do wish the window builder were quicker.
[16:10:02] <wiesand> so should i, probably, and for more than one reason…
[16:11:21] <meffie> Not sure if there is anything Alejandro can do. Maybe i should ask.
[16:11:38] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I suspect not directly at least.
[16:12:07] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> My recollection is that windows builds in general have some components
that can be surprisingly slow, maybe relating to console output being
slow
[16:12:10] <wiesand> ~25m isn't all that abd - used to be worse in the past
[16:12:46] <meffie> really? ok.
[16:12:53] <wiesand> btw, git operations on gerrit.openafs.org seem a lot faster than last week
[16:12:58] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> And IIUC visual studio will invoke the compiler just once to build
many files at the same time, which amortizes some of the startup
overhead compared to the way we use nmake that invokes the compiler
for each object file
[16:13:27] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> It does seem that giving gerrit more memory to work with has improved
the situation.
[16:13:38] <wiesand> Thanks!
[16:13:38] <meffie> yay, thank you.
[16:13:44] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I don't think there's a direct connection between that and
git-protocol performance, but we'll take it
[16:14:22] <meffie> hopefully limiting the number of simultaneous buildbot checkouts helps too.
[16:14:36] <wiesand> just curious: what's the current heap size?
[16:15:09] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think I told Cheyenne but don't have the actual number handy.  I
want to say it went 256MB->1GB
[16:17:02] <Cheyenne> I forget what the increase was
[16:17:55] <wiesand> So, apart from FBSD, the list of things to get into 1.8.x is still pretty much the same as a fortnight ago. Please expect fresh pullups soon. I took the day off tomorrow, that should allow me to get something done.
[16:18:11] <meffie> thanks wiesand
[16:18:45] <wiesand> (plans are 50% openafs, 50% garden ;-)
[16:19:23] <Cheyenne> looks like linux 5.14 was finalized.. doing a master build against the first bit of 5.15
[16:19:30] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> yes, thanks wiesand
[16:19:48] <wiesand> Thanks Cheyenne.
[16:19:51] <wiesand> Any other 1.8.x topics today?
[16:20:38] <meffie> i pushed 14779
[16:21:30] <meffie> based on the thing wiesand mentioned some time ago about tab completion. did i get the right command, fs lsmount?
[16:21:40] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> 14779 looks to target master; is it relevant for 1.8.x?
[16:22:16] <meffie> i though so, it was an annoyance Stephan mentioned in the past
[16:22:53] <wiesand> It's a feature I've been longing for for a while. Brought it up here, now Mike picked it up. Huge Thanks!
[16:23:14] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> ah, excellent
[16:23:18] <wiesand> So yes, I want it in 1.8.x ;-)
[16:23:26] <meffie> yay!
[16:23:33] <Cheyenne> just got a build error with master and 5.15-prerc .. though it might be just be minor item
[16:24:16] <meffie> yikes
[16:24:34] <wiesand> ouch - looks like we should try to be prepared for a 1.8.9 release in line with linux 5.1.5
[16:24:45] <Cheyenne> might just need a reordering of includes
[16:27:05] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I hope so
[16:28:42] <wiesand> Looks like we're done with 1.8 for today. On to 1.9/master?
[16:29:00] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I actually managed to review some stuff this week, hooray
[16:29:10] <wiesand> :)
[16:29:22] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Not much of a structure or plan to which things, though -- mostly just
clearing out browser tabs that had been open for a while.
[16:29:44] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> which seems to largely be working through the static-analysis and
new-compiler-warnings changes, with a bit of FBSD thrown in for good
measure
[16:30:22] <wiesand> 14779 is low hanging fruit and really really important ;-)
[16:30:34] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> It is now open in a browser tab, waiting for me to look at it :)
[16:31:07] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Anyway, I don't think I had particular topics to cover today.  There
were a few changes where I left comments with questions, and answering
those is good, but doesn't need the whole group to look at.
[16:31:32] <meffie> ok, thanks.
[16:32:14] <meffie> andrew completed his review of the vos-restore-check-dump-before-delete patches. hopefully you can take a look soon.
[16:32:28] <Cheyenne> on the rx.h "cleanup" .. just a missing tabs, and the kdump removal "fixes" that (which I just rebased)
[16:34:30] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> No promises, but thanks for the heads-up.
[16:35:01] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> So I guess that's all from me for today.  Any other topics?
[16:35:14] <wiesand> Not here
[16:35:15] <meffie> i have nothing
[16:35:58] <Cheyenne> nothing more from me.  I'll look at the 5.15 build error (hopefully just a misplaced/moved include)
[16:36:12] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> thanks
[16:36:22] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> So, motion to adjourn?
[16:36:38] <meffie> second
[16:36:51] mvita2 leaves the room
[16:37:18] <meffie> have a good weekend all.
[16:37:20] <wiesand> Yes, let's adjourn. Thanks for a brief meeting - this gives me more than an hour during which I'm still allowed to use the mower ;-)
[16:37:30] meffie leaves the room
[16:37:41] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> :)
[16:38:29] <Cheyenne> take care .. have a good week
[16:38:39] <wiesand> Bye
[16:38:41] wiesand leaves the room
[16:43:31] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> thanks everyone, and have a good week
[18:08:38] meffie joins the room
[21:07:20] meffie leaves the room
[21:57:15] mbarbosa leaves the room
