[16:00:36] <wiesand> Ok. If you want to kill a few minutes, please have a llok at 14708 and confirm that we should release 1.8.8pre2 today as it is.
[16:01:59] kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl joins the room
[16:02:28] <wiesand> Hello everyone
[16:02:33] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> greetings
[16:02:34] <meffie> hello
[16:02:37] <Cheyenne> Hello
[16:02:45] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> my previous meeting is running a little late, so I may have a slow
response time
[16:02:55] <wiesand> ok
[16:04:45] <wiesand> I prepared the 1.8.8pre2 release. The NEWS and version strings changes are merged, tarballs are uploaded to g.c.o and the proposed web change is in gerrit 14708.
[16:05:41] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Does that mean I should be tagging?
[16:05:45] <wiesand> Unless there are any objections or more late wish list additions, we can get it out today.
[16:06:32] <wiesand> Ben: One articipants had a few minutes to agree, yes we should tag today.
[16:06:43] <wiesand> Once
[16:08:00] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> okay.
(my other meeting finished, but now I am going to start some tea)
[16:08:36] <wiesand> seems about right ;-)
[16:11:31] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> (but I will still mostly be here, of course)
[16:14:09] <meffie> just rebuilt openafs-stable-1_8_x here just to double check. builds cleanly. going to give it a quick spin.
[16:15:00] <wiesand> Thank you!
[16:15:21] <wiesand> My usual smoke test went fine.
[16:15:25] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> So we're talking tagging 270bb0998f149485e4ae251fce802d8e80794e7c,
right?
[16:16:27] <wiesand> right - I was about to say "as your tea ceremony allows, please tag 270bb0998f149485e4ae251fce802d8e80794e7c as openafs-stable-1_8_8pre2"
[16:18:15] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Okay, I have the tag locally.
[16:19:24] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> It seems that we've had enough time for comments, and I should push it
[16:19:57] <meffie> yeah, i think so.
[16:20:01] <wiesand> Yes, please go ahead.
[16:22:48] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> To ssh://gerrit.openafs.org/openafs.git
* [new tag]             openafs-stable-1_8_8pre2 ->
openafs-stable-1_8_8pre2
[16:23:21] <wiesand> it took several minutes today before a merged gerrit item would be retrieved by a local git pull
[16:23:53] <wiesand> but there it is, thanks
[16:24:02] <wiesand> releasing the volume...
[16:24:35] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think the gerrit process and/or db is struggling a bit but haven't
had a chance to actually look much
[16:24:36] <meffie> can you release www.workshop <http://www.workshop> while you are there?
[16:24:47] <wiesand> merging the web change…
[16:25:51] <wiesand> released www.workshop <http://www.workshop>
[16:26:14] <meffie> thanks!
[16:27:21] <wiesand> bringing live the web change
[16:28:25] <wiesand> seems like that worked
[16:30:10] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> yay
[16:31:11] <wiesand> I'll send the announcement in a few minutes. And that's what I have on 1.8.x for today.
[16:32:07] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I don't have much of a coherent plan for discussing master today,
though there was a good bit of activity
[16:32:27] <Cheyenne> yes -- thank you
[16:32:44] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> While reviewing Andrew's FDH_BLOCKSIZE change I noticed that it would
not be compilable on AIX, which prompted him to actually get access to
an AIX machine and dive into the rabbit hole of other stuff that was
broken there...
[16:33:27] <wiesand> How did you notice?
[16:34:51] <wiesand> I saw those AIX changes. At first glance, they may even qualify for going in between pre2 and 1.8.8 final.
[16:35:08] <wiesand> But then I guess they aren't all that urgent after all..
[16:35:12] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> A helper function that already takes an FD_t (computed as
(FdHandle_t->fd_fd) was trying to dereference it again to ->fd_fd.
[16:35:26] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Yeah, seems quite non-urgent
[16:35:37] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> But then it turns out that there was also a missing semicolon, too :)
[16:36:03] <wiesand> which change?
[16:36:25] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> https://gerrit.openafs.org/#/c/14662 is the FDH_BLOCKSIZE change that
prompted the journey
[16:36:57] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Ah, and it looks like I also got Cheyenne's AFS_LINUX_ENV cleanup
landed
[16:37:55] <wiesand> saw that too… I guess it's targeted for 1.8.9?
[16:38:15] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> yes
[16:38:46] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Yadav posted 14691 that's believed to help with the crowdstrike falcon
issue
[16:40:05] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Jeff also posted a few change to gerrit and also to the mailing list
about using the RX SACK table as a bitfield.  That's something I agree
with in principle but haven't fully looked at the details of the
proposals yet.  However, I've talked with him about it and reviewed an
earlier version of 14465, so I'm pretty confident that it will be good
overall
[16:40:21] <meffie> i wonder if billings has a chance to check 14691
[16:40:27] <Cheyenne> wiesand:  if you need help with the linux env stuff let me know
[16:42:09] <wiesand> Thanks Cheyenne. I'll give it a try and will cry for help if needed.
[16:42:42] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Hmm, there was some work on the translate_et support for UAE stack,
which IIRC is mostly blocked on 14648, plus I had a question on 14649
that I was hoping to get more thoughts on before merging.
[16:44:57] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> And I left only a +1 on 14629 (precursor to kdump removal) but AFAICT
the questions I left are ones that are answerable by "yes, but that's
all gone in the next commit anyway", so I'm not sure why it wouldn't
be +2.
[16:45:32] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> But I think that scattered list of a progress report is all I have for
this week
[16:45:53] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Next week is IETF 111, but it's later in the day, so I will at least
be able to make the meeting even if I don't have much progress to
report.
[16:45:58] <Cheyenne> still getting clean builds on linux 5.14-rc2+ for master/1.8.x (pre2 :) on intel
[16:46:19] <wiesand> Thanks!
[16:47:02] <wiesand> There was talk of some action required for 5.14 this week though
[16:48:03] <meffie> thanks ben!
[16:49:42] <wiesand> 1.8.8pre2 announcement sent, -announce moderators pestered
[16:50:15] <Cheyenne> where was that?
[16:50:28] <meffie> my smoke test of 1.8.8pre2 passed while ben was giving his progress report ;)
[16:51:31] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I don't think I remember seeing talk of changes needed for 5.14
[16:51:49] <wiesand> it was Marc…
[16:53:16] <wiesand> may not apply to openafs, though
[16:54:00] <Cheyenne> there was some kafs traffic recently in 5.14
[16:54:05] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> ah
[16:55:52] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Anyway, I think I am out of topics for today; there were a few changes
I mentioned where further review/comments would be helpful.
[16:56:12] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> There is always the standing item of any changes/topics that I should
try to focus on in the coming week, of course.
[16:56:39] <Cheyenne> I'm going to trickle in some more of the static analysis patches (I'll do one or two at a time)
[16:57:07] <wiesand> I'm wondering what 1.8.8 release date we should aim for. A week? A fortnight? (given that we're unlikely to receive feedback anyway)
[16:57:54] <meffie> i think a week is good, in the absence of feedback.
[16:58:19] <meffie> that way we can have a release that is supported on the recent rhel 8.4
[16:58:55] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Yeah, I think a week is fine as well
[16:59:57] <wiesand> Fine. In the absence of bug reports, I should prepare the release for the next meeting then.
[16:59:58] <meffie> I dont have any particular gerrits to bug ben about today.
[17:00:55] <wiesand> I'm out of topics too. Anything else to discuss?
[17:01:00] <meffie> i have several things in flight on my github sandbox, but i feel they are not ready for gerrit yet.
[17:01:57] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> ok
[17:02:29] <wiesand> Let's adjourn then. Thanks a lot everyone!
[17:02:53] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Thanks everyone, and have a good week!
[17:03:11] <meffie> thanks all.
