[13:51:27] Cheyenne joins the room
[15:55:22] meffie joins the room
[16:00:58] <mvita2> salutations
[16:01:25] <Cheyenne> Good day
[16:01:35] <meffie> hi
[16:02:15] wiesand joins the room
[16:02:29] <wiesand> Hello
[16:04:03] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> greetings
[16:04:13] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Yadav says he will not attend this week.
[16:05:01] <meffie> ok
[16:05:28] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> (Sorry I'm late; I was looking at a change in gerrit and lost track of
the time)
[16:05:30] <Cheyenne> Ben, just a quick note, yesterday some of the buildbot workers were getting a 502 error.  When I was investigating and trying to restart some of the builds I noticed 502 errors as well
[16:05:47] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Cheyenne: I noticed that as well, and restarted gerrit
[16:06:20] <Cheyenne> thx
[16:06:28] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I really need to get back to moving things to the new VM
[16:06:39] <wiesand> Mike's 1.9.1 source files are being uploaded right now.
[16:07:42] <wiesand> Merged Linux-5.12 and the bos warning fix Marcio pulled up (4546).
[16:07:46] <wiesand> 14546
[16:08:02] <meffie> thanks
[16:08:26] <wiesand> Also pulled up 14559 mentioned a fortnight ago: 14589
[16:08:54] <Cheyenne> ran a build check with 1.8.x (and master) with latest linux 5.12-rc6+ this morning -- still building cleanly
[16:08:56] <wiesand> And I'm working on NEWS. Expect PS2 later today.
[16:09:13] <wiesand> Thanks Cheyenne.
[16:11:12] <wiesand> Loose ends before 1.8.8pre1: Finish NEWS, maybe get Big Sur, maybe pull up more FBSD fixes (addressing the comments in 14537), maybe merge 14589.
[16:11:27] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think Big Sur is just waiting on buildbot at the moment
[16:11:36] <wiesand> Great news.
[16:14:22] <wiesand> A last open issue is 10831. It was added to the wish list a while ago, but my attempt to pull it up was unsuccessful due to a frightening amount of code skew. I haven't gotten around to having a closer look yet. If anyone has a proposal how to backport it (preferrably with as few edits as possible or a stack of missing other changes making it a clean cherry-pick), please submit.
[16:15:40] <meffie> that looks like just a code cleanup change?
[16:16:06] <wiesand> If it's that simple, all the better.
[16:17:47] <meffie> my understanding is this has no user visible changes. it's just removing code duplication.
[16:17:48] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> 10831 is "Move key-related warnings to common server code", which
touches all the servers and as such is fairly susceptible to code skew
[16:18:07] <wiesand> right
[16:18:18] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> but it is supposed to just be code cleanup, yes.  Well, the master
version did change behavior slightly for a couple rarely used server
types
[16:19:35] <meffie> but even then, it's just the des warning messages?
[16:19:53] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Both the "you have a DES key" and the "you have no keys", I think
[16:21:17] <meffie> is it important to be backported to 1.8.x?
[16:22:03] <wiesand> I may be wrong, but ISTR it was you who wanted it ;-)
[16:22:09] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I don't remember why it was initially brought up as a potential
backport.
Just thinking about it offhand now, I don't see much reason why it is
critical to have it included in 1.8.x
[16:22:30] <wiesand> "It was initially meant for 1.6"
[16:22:48] <meffie> i think originally it was for 1.6.x
[16:23:03] <meffie> jinx i owe you a coke
[16:23:21] <mvita2> ITYM birch beer
[16:24:43] <meffie> will, it was just a preq for some other 1.6.x patches if i recall.
[16:25:26] <meffie> 10831 was a code rework to make it possible to have 10834 if i remember
[16:25:28] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> So, should we put it on a shelf until we get back around to doing
anything with 1.6?
[16:26:05] <mvita2> that's probably best
[16:26:16] <meffie> i think so.
[16:26:49] <meffie> even then, 10834 is just more warning messages to help admins.
[16:27:01] <meffie> not a critical bug fix.
[16:27:16] <wiesand> I wasn't planning to block on it…
[16:27:30] <meffie> ok, thank you
[16:27:43] <wiesand> Just didn't want to silently drop items from the wish list.
[16:28:01] <meffie> make sense!
[16:28:19] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> > didn't want to silently drop items from the wish list.
That is appreciated.  Dropping items from the wish list after
discussion is still okay, though :)
[16:30:27] <wiesand> Ok, thanks.
[16:31:15] <wiesand> Meanwhile 1.9.1 upload finished. I added RELNOTES-1.9.1 and released the volumes. Have yet to verify checksums from some other client.
[16:33:53] <wiesand> I think that's all I have for today. Steady, yet still slow, progress…
[16:34:47] <meffie> excellent! thank you
[16:35:16] <mvita2> +1
[16:35:35] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Oh good, my timing was not too bad (was distracted looking at the
different pthread-bos stacks)
[16:36:00] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> IIRC the Big Sur and ih_PkgDefaults stuff are waiting on buildbot from
last night.
[16:36:26] <meffie> are the windows builders back?
[16:36:32] <Cheyenne> yes
[16:36:39] <meffie> yay
[16:37:18] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I left a note mostly for Andrew on the "allow SIGFPE handlers for
softsig", which we probably don't need to talk about here.
[16:37:31] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I did want to talk about afsconf_GenericAuth, though (14570)
[16:37:32] <meffie> (fyi, Buildbot 2.10.5, 3.0.3 and 3.1.0 have been released! we should upgrade when we switch to rhel7)
[16:38:33] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> It looks like it's there to support libafscp, and libafscp has some
support for something I'll call "akimpersonate-like" where you use the
cell-wide key to print a token for an arbitrary principal name.
[16:39:15] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I am not super-excited about exporting the GenericAuth function
(though not dead-set against it), but I'm also not very familiar with
libafscp.
[16:40:10] <meffie> i think it was mvita2's idea :)
[16:40:11] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Would it be possible to wire things up so afscp uses a token from
aklog, letting us leverage aklog's impersonation functionality (and
rxkad-krb5 support), so that we only need to change libafscp to use
afsconf_ClientAuth for its superuser connections?
[16:40:29] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Or is part of the point of afscp to not depend on aklog?
[16:41:29] <meffie> if we depend on aklog, then we need a kernel module running
[16:41:40] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Ah, true.
[16:41:42] <mvita2> libafscp can't "see" tokens in the kernel
[16:41:45] <meffie> which defeats the purpose of the too
[16:41:47] <meffie> tool
[16:42:06] <mvita2> and you are usually running libafscp to avoid having a kernel module in the first place
[16:42:15] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> got it
[16:42:25] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> okay, thanks for the cluebat; I will ponder a bit more on this one
[16:42:33] <meffie> lol
[16:44:09] <mvita2> another way to look at it is that libafscp doesn't have/support a pioctl interface
[16:44:12] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I see that the make-release changes got some review comments.  Who is
planning to make the updates?  (Me?)
[16:45:14] <wiesand> I'd take care eventually, but feel free to beat me to it.
[16:45:21] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> We'll see what happens :)
[16:45:49] <meffie> I can update it if you like, since i've already done it locally :)
[16:45:50] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think that is the end of my list of things I'd prepared to talk
about.
[16:46:44] <meffie> thanks kaduk
[16:46:45] <wiesand> mike: if it just keeps working on linux … ;-)
[16:47:13] <meffie> that's what i'm using :)
[16:47:27] <wiesand> please, go ahead
[16:47:31] <meffie> ok
[16:48:14] <wiesand> Anything else to discuss today
[16:48:16] <wiesand> ?
[16:48:21] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> not from my end
[16:48:26] <mvita2> nothing from me
[16:48:34] <meffie> none here, have a good weekend.
[16:48:38] <Cheyenne> Nothing here
[16:48:48] meffie leaves the room
[16:48:48] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> thanks everyone
[16:48:58] <wiesand> Let's adjourn then. Thanks a lot everybody!
[16:49:11] <mvita2> thanks, have a good weekend!
[21:29:09] mbarbosa leaves the room
[22:00:19] wiesand leaves the room
