[17:00:19] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> greetings
[17:00:25] <cwills> hello
[17:00:30] <yadayada> hi all
[17:00:35] meffie joins the room
[17:00:42] <meffie> greetings
[17:00:47] mvita2 joins the room
[17:00:58] <mvita2> greetings
[17:01:35] <wiesand> Hello
[17:01:59] <wiesand> Ah, progress :-)
[17:02:25] <wiesand> Merged away the rx related changes in the 1.8.x queue today (thanks for the review).
[17:03:27] <wiesand> And pulled up what I believe is what we need for Linux 5.11 (14509..11, and again thanks for the review).
[17:03:56] <wiesand> + a simple first xbsd patch (14512)
[17:04:12] <cwills> Yes -- those are the patches for 5.11 (running test build at the moment)
[17:04:29] <wiesand> Thanks!
[17:05:20] <wiesand> Remaining items on my to-do list are FBSD catchup and Big Sur.
[17:05:38] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Interestingly enough, Big Sur remains also on my to-do list.
[17:05:56] <meffie> cool. btw we have a users running the current openafs-stable-1_8_x branch on fedora 33 with good results.
[17:06:09] <meffie> sort of a pre-pre release if you will.
[17:06:17] <mvita2> Stephan, I would like to request a 1.8.x version of 14385.  I can submit it if you like, or I defer to you if you prefer.
[17:07:04] <meffie> kaduk, thanks for the bigsur reviews!
[17:07:09] <wiesand> Mike, great to hear that.
[17:07:21] <wiesand> Mark, please hang on for a minute.
[17:07:29] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Mike: I'm making my way again through 14431 as we speak
[17:07:33] <mvita2> sure
[17:11:28] <cwills> clean build both master and 1.8.x with latest linux 5.11 fetch
[17:11:45] <wiesand> Preliminary ack on 14385. Looks like I won't need help with that one.
[17:12:01] <mvita2> okay, thank you.
[17:12:15] <mvita2> and one more, same question:  13042
[17:14:09] <wiesand> now that one seems fairly dated… same answer though ;-)
[17:14:18] <mvita2> thank you.
[17:14:48] <cwills> (qualify test build for 1.8.x -- that using 14511 )
[17:15:01] <mvita2> my latest comments on 13042 explain why I'm requesting it now
[17:15:44] <wiesand> ok…
[17:15:50] <wiesand> Cheyenne: Thanks!
[17:17:47] <cwills> ... looks like there was a git fetch failure with macos10 on 14511 ..
[17:18:17] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I guess I should kick gerrit?
I still need to make some time to investigate what's actually going on
with the slowness
[17:19:17] <wiesand> My guess is that it was due to "too much other activity" going on at the same time.
[17:19:45] <wiesand> Yes, gerrit seemed a bit sluggish for the last couple of weeks. But it mostly works fine.
[17:20:36] <wiesand> But things like "clone" and "cherry-pick" felt a lot slower than they used to.
[17:20:49] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Agreed
[17:23:21] <wiesand> So, homing in on what's now called 1.8.8pre1, but still a few changes which are "almost but not quite" ready/processed but nice to have merged before.
[17:25:03] <wiesand> Except for the two brought up by Mark today, I'm slightly inclined to give priority to having a 1.8.8pre1 at the cost of the others possibly having to wait for pre2 or 1.8.9. Thoughts"
[17:25:10] <wiesand> s/"/?/
[17:26:09] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Getting the release train moving again seems advisable.
[17:26:13] <mvita2> that sounds good to me
[17:26:17] <meffie> it seems it would be good to have a prerelease for recent kernel versions
[17:26:24] <mvita2> even the 2 I mentioned could wait for pre2
[17:26:30] <cwills> sounds good to me
[17:27:18] yadayada leaves the room
[17:27:21] <wiesand> Those 2 are rather pre1 fodder IMO.
[17:27:25] <cwills> Or to put it in a more gerritish way "Looks good to me, but someone else must approve"
[17:28:14] <wiesand> Seems we are in broad agreement here though. Great!
[17:28:38] yadayada joins the room
[17:28:50] <wiesand> NEWS is a slightly daunting task at this point. Stay tuned for my cries for help ;-)
[17:29:44] <wiesand> On to 1.9.x/master?
[17:31:15] <cwills> With some of the recent merges, I will need to rebase/update the LINUX_ENV cleanup commits.
[17:31:17] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Hmm, maybe debian/stable news doesn't actually count as 1.9.x/master
:)
I did finish my local testing and get approval to upload for
buster-proposed-updates.  The timing is unfortunate, though, as
there's a scheduled buster point release for tomorrow that we will not
make.  But it sounds like we can probably get a pre-point-release stable update
shortly thereafter.
[17:32:15] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> As far as master itself, we got the linux 5.11 stuff merged, and I am
revising the Big Sur stuff now.
[17:32:16] <meffie> ug
[17:32:59] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> On 14429, it looks like (if I am understanding correctly) we have a
couple extraneous lines in the change, but I don't know if we have
interest in tidying that up before merging -- it probably doesn't
really matter.
[17:33:08] <meffie> thats for getting the buster updates done. too bad about the freeze :(
[17:34:07] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Yeah, I am kind of kicking myself because my recollection of how this
process goes is turning out to be different from the present reality.
[17:35:49] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Also, re Big Sur, I didn't post the comment yet, but 14431 is going to
need another rev -- in sockproxy_pkts_copyin() we can end up calling
afs_osi_Free() on userspace pointers if we have errors in the loop
where we copyin packet payloads.
[17:36:16] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> But that's about all I have for this week -- most of my time was spent
testing the buster/rx-cid scenarios
[17:36:17] <meffie> ok, thanks for catching that!
[17:40:19] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Any other topics for today?
[17:41:00] <meffie> i was happy to hear back from christof so fast, and happy to hear he was able to fix the suse packaging
[17:41:10] <wiesand> Chances are I'll merge Linux 5.11 later and then pull up the two changes requested by Mark. Timely review would then be helpful ;-)
[17:41:23] <mvita2> ack.
[17:41:30] <meffie> thanks wiesand
[17:41:49] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I didn't get to reply to Christof, but maybe he was confused by the
authordate/commitdate split in git?
[17:42:33] <wiesand> It was a bit comforting to see even Christof confused by those behind-gerrit's-back-merges…
[17:43:56] <meffie> i'm not sure. i think it has to do with how he pulls up changes. his src.rpm had a whole git repo in it, with the 1.8.7 tag in the wrong place.
[17:44:52] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> btw,
openafs_1.8.2-1+deb10u1_source.changes ACCEPTED into proposed-updates->stable-new
[17:45:12] <meffie> the revised src.rpm is now using the openafs source distribution.
[17:46:44] <meffie> excellent news, thanks ben!
[17:47:20] <wiesand> right
[17:47:48] <wiesand> Anything else to discuss today?
[17:48:00] <mvita2> a quick unrelated question for Stephan:
[17:48:09] <wiesand> oh oh…
[17:48:20] <mvita2> is naf.desy.de still working?  or was it decomissioned?
[17:48:33] <mvita2> (AFS cell, that is)
[17:48:40] <wiesand> Decomissioned.
[17:48:46] <mvita2> do you remember when?
[17:49:19] <wiesand> Is "years ago" sufficiently accurate?
[17:49:24] <mvita2> yes
[17:49:44] <wiesand> May I aks why you care?
[17:50:10] <mvita2> I had a recent test where I needed my client to know as many working fileservers as possible
[17:50:23] <mvita2> naf.desy.de is still in the current distributed CSDB
[17:51:23] <mvita2> there were many cells in the current CSDB that I had to remove for my test CSDB.  But it's hard to tell if a given cell is dcom'd or is just private
[17:52:03] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> While we're on not-exactly-topical topics, what did you end up doing
for people on 14.04 for the rx+cid issue?
[17:52:14] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> (ubuntu 14.04, that is)
[17:53:52] <wiesand> 14.04 reached EOL almost 2 years ago?
[17:54:12] <meffie> andrew was able to build debs for them, but they still would prefer to use the upstream packages if possible
[17:54:15] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> That doesn't stop people from running it ... just from it being a good
idea :-/
[17:54:39] <meffie> at least the ubuntu 12 machines are gone now :)
[17:54:43] <wiesand> and my remaining 16.04 clients are running 1.6.something, so no problem?
[17:54:53] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> :)
[17:55:05] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> > running 1.6.something
Well, different problems at least
[17:55:40] <meffie> will there be a rx-cid fix for ubuntu14 ?
[17:55:58] <wiesand> Pleeze, no…
[17:56:47] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I don't think we have plans to put out something "official" for
ubuntu14.
I did have someone ask me about it, though, and they reported that the
debhelper was too old to just rebuild the 16.04 source package
[17:57:07] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I'm not sure whether I'll get motivated enough to make something
custom for them
[17:57:29] <wiesand> Charge for it...
[17:58:10] <wiesand> Or tell them to contact SNA sales ;-)
[17:58:18] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> :)
[17:58:19] <meffie> we could provide the debs andrew made.
[17:59:01] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I can mention that as a possibility -- should I list you as the
contact, Mike?
[17:59:34] <meffie> yes, send them our way, we should be able to help.
[18:00:31] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Thanks!
[18:01:02] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think we are pretty done for today, then -- motion to adjourn?
[18:01:09] <mvita2> concur
[18:01:10] <meffie> second
[18:01:18] <wiesand> Very Good. And t make it clear I wasn't too serious here… maybe 50%…
[18:01:35] <wiesand> Let's adjourn then. Thanks a lot everybody!
[18:01:42] <mvita2> have a good weekend
[18:01:46] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> thanks everyone, and have a good weekend!
[18:02:13] meffie leaves the room
[18:03:49] <cwills> have a good week
[18:16:54] yadayada leaves the room
[18:41:03] wiesand leaves the room
[22:20:30] mbarbosa leaves the room
[23:39:32] cwills leaves the room
