[17:01:58] <wiesand> Hello. Happy new year!
[17:02:41] <yadayada> hello all happy new year
[17:02:42] <meffie> happy new year
[17:03:03] <meffie> sorry i missed last week, i was asleep
[17:03:36] <meffie> we had a celebration for the news years at home :)
[17:03:54] <wiesand> you didn't miss all that much (and btw the week before I was late for the same reason ;-)
[17:05:34] cwills joins the room
[17:05:41] <cwills> Hello all
[17:05:46] <wiesand> Hello
[17:05:49] <meffie> welcome
[17:06:05] kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl joins the room
[17:06:35] <wiesand> I didn't get done as much as I had hoped for over the last fortnight.
[17:06:38] <wiesand> Hello Ben
[17:06:41] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Sorry I'm late
[17:07:32] kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl has set the subject to: openafs release team
[17:08:20] <wiesand> But I merged away the changes that were already pulled up for 1.8.7, and today pulled up the aklog backlog (14476..83) today.
[17:09:24] <meffie> thanks!
[17:09:26] <wiesand> I expect most of those to go largely undisputed, maybe with the exception of 14476, which is huge but only removes dead code.
[17:09:45] <wiesand> So, review review review
[17:09:59] <meffie> ok, will do
[17:10:09] <mvita2> joining late
[17:10:31] <wiesand> Then I'm still waiting for 10831 to be merged on master.
[17:10:35] <wiesand> Hello Mark
[17:10:45] <mvita2> Hello and Happy New Year!
[17:10:56] <wiesand> Last item on my todo list is then FBSD.
[17:11:16] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> It looks like Andrew responded to me on 10831, so let me push the
button now
[17:12:39] <wiesand> And of course macOs and Linux 5.11 would be accepted when ready.
[17:13:02] <wiesand> Any other late must-haves for 1.8.7pre1?
[17:13:12] <cwills> I have a patch for 5.11 (it's really small).. I just need to finish doing some testing against 32bit apps
[17:13:39] <wiesand> Great, thanks
[17:13:45] <meffie> thanks cwills
[17:14:23] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Yes, thanks cwills
[17:15:26] <cwills> I was hoping to be able to reduce/eliminate a block of #ifs with the fix, but I don't think it will be possible :(
[17:16:30] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I did not get much done this "week", either, but I did get to have a
relaxing chunk of vacation time at least.   (Came back to a bulging
inbox, but hard to expect otherwise...)
[17:17:13] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think next on my plate are audit-pipe, linux, macOS, and FBSD.
[17:18:17] <meffie> thanks kaduk
[17:18:42] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> (and I did push the button on 10831 during the meeting, so Stephan can
stop waiting on master for that one)
[17:18:45] <cwills> Ben, could you take a quick look at 14387 (re Andrew's comment about a "foward looking commit comment").  As soon as I get some feedback, I'll update the commit message with the wording cleanup
[17:19:07] <cwills> It's part of the LINUX_ENV cleanup
[17:20:02] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> done
[17:20:13] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> with the "bulging inbox" I probably missed the email notification
about that question
[17:20:57] <cwills> Thanks..
[17:21:09] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> And this week itself was pretty rough on me since the QUIC protocol
specifications were up for IESG review, and I wanted to give themm the
highest quality review I can -- it's likely to be a very important
protocol
[17:21:46] <meffie> interesting, good luck!
[17:22:41] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Thanks!  The deadline for getting my review in was yesterday, but now
I get to follow-up with responses and proposed changes to adapt to my
comments
[17:23:10] <meffie> i finished all the changes i think i needed to do for the 'ansible-openafs' roles over the break, but still working on documentation and test updates.
[17:23:46] <meffie> cwills has started testing them as well. i'll send some mail to yadayada soon :)
[17:24:03] <wiesand> any news on those daily builds against linux-nect?
[17:24:26] <meffie> oh, yes, that is on my list next week.
[17:25:04] <meffie> in the mean time cwills has been doing manual checks, thank you cwills.
[17:25:12] <wiesand> not pressing in any way, but I do miss them
[17:25:48] <meffie> ok, it will be worth the time to fix it then.
[17:26:52] <cwills> My last bit of testing shows that with the fix I'm working on, master continues to build cleanly on 5.11-rc
[17:27:57] <wiesand> Good news.
[17:28:10] <wiesand> Anything else to discuss today?
[17:28:20] <yadayada> Mike for BigSur any testing has been on new Apple M1 chip ?
[17:28:32] <meffie> oh, andrew had a question....
[17:29:08] <yadayada> I know that Apple provides rosetta translator for translating mcachine code for x86 to arm. But I have not tested that yet
[17:29:26] <meffie> https://gerrit.openafs.org/#/q/topic:rx/restart-hang
[17:29:50] <meffie> he mentioned that topic should be pulled up to 1.8.x
[17:30:00] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> A perhaps amusing tangent from "apple M1 chip" -- openssl got support
for that platform, but the version that was merged to master ended up
not actually using assembly code versions of any of the crypto stuff!
It took several weeks, IIRC, before someone noticed that the
performance was crap and fixed it.
[17:30:47] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I want to say that we talked about rx/restart-hang and were targeting
1.8.8 for it, but I could be imagining that
[17:31:07] <cwills> Oh.. I did do a full cleanup of all the AFS_*LINUX*_ENV macros (and I just need to update the commit message).
[17:31:58] <meffie> andrew wanted to know if we should push them to the 1.8.x gerrit branch, or if Staphan wanted to do that?
[17:32:14] <meffie> stephan
[17:32:55] <mvita2> Ben, when you have a few minutes could you please take a quick look at https://gerrit.openafs.org/#/c/13170/ and consider it for merge to master?   it already has some +1s and is the last commit in the stack
[17:33:02] <meffie> marcio has not been testing on the new apple cpu.
[17:33:22] <wiesand> I'd prefer to do that. Just let me know the changes you want.
[17:33:43] <meffie> ok, thanks stephan
[17:34:14] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Mark, okay, I'll leave it open in a tab to remind me about it
[17:34:54] <mvita2> thanks
[17:35:57] <meffie> The restart-hang fixes are gerrits 13876, 13758, and 13875 (in some order)
[17:36:38] <meffie> i can add those to the notes to remind us.
[17:36:57] <meffie> that's all i have.
[17:37:24] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Nothing else from me, either.
[17:37:39] <yadayada> nothing from my side
[17:37:40] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Happy (or "Happy", to at least those of us in the US) New Year.
[17:38:16] <mvita2> thank you everyone and have a good weekend
[17:38:27] <yadayada> thanks
[17:38:57] <meffie> thanks everyone!
[17:39:00] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Thanks everyone!
[17:39:31] <meffie> try to avoid excessive doom scrolling and have a good weekend.
[17:42:16] <wiesand> Any other topics for today?
[17:43:22] <wiesand> ping
[17:43:33] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think we're calling it
[17:43:34] <cwills> Nothing from here
[17:43:37] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> nothing else from me, that is
[17:43:46] meffie leaves the room
[17:44:01] wiesand leaves the room
[17:44:06] wiesand joins the room
[17:44:32] <wiesand> (had a connection problem)
