[16:01:02] <meffie> greetings
[16:01:02] <wiesand> Hello
[16:01:16] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> greetings
[16:01:24] <yadayada> hello all
[16:02:56] <wiesand> The US will change back from DST to standard time on Nov. 1st?
[16:03:45] <wiesand> (here it's Oct 25th)
[16:04:13] <meffie> i think so
[16:04:15] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> yes
[16:04:47] <wiesand> Do we agree on keeping the time slot the same for US participants during that transition and the months after?
[16:05:34] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think Yadav is perhaps the most effected by it?  But I forget how
the direction works.
[16:05:37] cwills joins the room
[16:05:54] <meffie> i am flexible. no other meetings on friday at this time.
[16:06:07] <meffie> er. currently
[16:06:09] <cwills> Hello all
[16:07:53] <yadayada> So what will be a new time for a meeting ? will it move 30 min ahead of current time ?
[16:08:40] <wiesand> Yes, I believe India is not participating in the DST nonsense. But then for Yadav it's in the middle of the night anyway ;-)
[16:09:37] <yadayada> ok, so I will be ok with new time.
[16:09:54] <wiesand> Thanks!
[16:11:16] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> It would change by 1 hour, not 30 minutes, though?
[16:12:21] <yadayada> even 1 hrs will be ok.
[16:12:26] <cwills> usually the time change is an hour (spring forward + 1 hour , fall back - 1 hour)
[16:12:44] <wiesand> Mike: nice catch regarding the 20th anniversary. I wonder whether we could make the meeting Oct. 30th a video call (and invite all kinds of people, including the auristor folks, to participate)?
[16:13:47] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Seems like a good idea to me
[16:14:06] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I am not sure whether I will make a cake just to have some here,
though ;)
[16:15:07] <meffie> ha!
[16:15:28] mvita2 joins the room
[16:15:30] <cwills> the cake is a lie
[16:15:37] <mvita2> sorry for my tardiness
[16:16:12] <meffie> wiesand: sounds like a great idea
[16:16:25] <meffie> i still think we should have cake!
[16:22:47] <wiesand> I'll have a piece in front of me in any case. And I think it's worth a try - but we have ~ a fortnight to make up our minds.
[16:24:03] <wiesand> Ben: congratulations on getting 1.9.0 out the door!
[16:24:13] <cwills> +1
[16:24:17] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Thanks!  I couldn't have done it without you all
[16:24:18] <yadayada> +1
[16:24:27] <meffie> woot! thank you.
[16:24:35] <mvita2> Yes, thank you very much!
[16:25:32] <wiesand> Is there a vague idea of the 2.0 ETA?
[16:27:02] <wiesand> Myself, I've been a bit under the weather for the past week, thus I don't have much to report on stable again, sorry.
[16:27:16] <meffie> oh, hope you feel better soon.
[16:27:34] <cwills> Is there anything needed for the 3 pending 1.8.x commits?
[16:28:04] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I don't have a great sense of 2.0 ETA, no.
[16:28:16] <wiesand> Cheyenne: I don't think so. NB Thanks for the rework. I just have to get a round tuit…
[16:30:02] <wiesand> Mike: it's not that bad, but I slept a lot and worked not that much. And it's virtually impossible that I contracted that virus (though figures around me are skyrocketing). The weekend will tell.
[16:30:34] <meffie> Ok, take care.
[16:30:52] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Yes, get well soon.
[16:31:10] <cwills> re: linux-5.9-rc8+ .. master compiled cleanly .. doing 1.8.x now
[16:32:56] <wiesand> I seem to be missing those daily status mails currently. Not sure why (and it could be me)
[16:33:11] <cwills> and 1.8.x builds clean
[16:33:38] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I don't think I ever got such messages, though probably I wasn't
supposed to
[16:33:41] <wiesand> Great news, and thanks!
[16:34:50] <meffie> wiesand: i need to do some work to get them back.
[16:35:37] <meffie> we upgraded our hypervisor, and it's a long story, but i'm getting to it. :)
[16:36:01] yadayada leaves the room
[16:36:17] <meffie> in the meantime, cheyenne has been testing manually.
[16:36:38] yadayada joins the room
[16:37:04] <wiesand> For Ben: mails looked like this:
[16:37:06] mvita2 leaves the room
[16:37:07] mvita2 joins the room
[16:37:19] <wiesand> ```The buildbot has detected a passing build on builder linux-rc-x86_64 while building openafs-stable-1_8_x
Build Reason: <unknown>
Build succeeded!
Full details are available at:
   https://buildbot.openafs.org/#builders/14/builds/1784
The OpenAFS Buildbot,
https://buildbot.openafs.org/
[16:38:33] <cwills> The test build I do is against a git fetch from the linux repo so it's the latest and greatest (which is why I say linux-5.9-rc{n}+)
[16:38:55] <wiesand> I hope I'll be able to catch up a bit in the next days.
[16:40:03] <yadayada> One query here I was trying the build on master branch using "sh regen.sh && ./configure && make install" . But when I run klog.krb5 it complained about libafshcrypto and librokenafs libs. And I see that make install does not copy these libs. Have you seen such issue ?
[16:40:52] <meffie> you'll need to run ldconfig
[16:41:38] <wiesand> If they aren't copied into place ldconfig won't help?
[16:41:46] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think it would only complain about those libs if klog.krb5 was
using shared linkage, but I thought we were supposed to be static
linking that binary
[16:42:23] <yadayada> klog.krb5 uses shared libs.
[16:42:59] <meffie> if i recall, make install will copy the so files, but you need to run ldconfig. i'd have to check.
[16:43:11] <wiesand> With static linking the build should yield no klog.krb5 executable?
[16:44:06] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Something to look into, I guess -- we probably don't need to debug
fully during the meeting.  (A build log with the link line for
klog.krb5 would be useful.)
[16:44:34] <yadayada> sure will share the logs on same
[16:44:41] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> The Makefile.in I am looking at uses LT_LDRULE_static for building
klog in src/aklog (which is installed as klog.krb5)
[16:45:01] <wiesand> (and BTW I still think klog.krb5 should be named k5log instead - while the name was proposed by me back then, it's wrong)
[16:46:08] <meffie> (naming is hard !)
[16:46:11] <wiesand> (since functionality is equivalent to that of klog, not that of klog.krb)
[16:47:25] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I don't have too much news on master; I merged some stuff that has
been queued up and left comments on a few things to suggest changes,
but not a whole lot noteworthy, IIRC.
[16:47:40] <mvita2> thank you for the merges, Ben
[16:47:53] <meffie> yes, thank you ben
[16:48:26] <yadayada> I am looking at BigSur patches by Marcio. Will send some update next week on this
[16:49:08] <yadayada> one query on BigSur I had was any performance testing has been done ? as we have moved networking API's to user space
[16:50:18] <meffie> yes, some testing has been done, but more needs to be done
[16:50:32] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Are there any changes in gerrit that I should prioritize looking at?
[16:51:07] <meffie> not that i know of.
[16:51:32] <cwills> non here
[16:51:57] <mvita2> thank you for your continued attention to the afs-dir-pkg topic
[16:52:15] <mvita2> I'm working on implementing your requests today
[16:52:46] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> In pretty good shape, yes, and thanks for turning around the updates
quickly
[16:53:25] <mvita2> It is my "white whale"
[16:53:37] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> :)
[16:54:12] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Anything else for today?
[16:54:13] <wiesand> A couple of mails I received suggest Big Sur will be very hard. I'm impressed and glad to hear that OpenAFS is probably going to cope!
[16:55:14] <wiesand> Nothing else from my side today.
[16:55:43] <meffie> ok, thanks, motion to go get cake?
[16:55:53] <mvita2> heh
[16:55:58] <wiesand> Sustained!
[16:56:07] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> motion carries
[16:56:07] <meffie> have a good and safe weekend
[16:56:13] <mvita2> bye
