[16:00:20] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> greetings
[16:01:19] yadayada joins the room
[16:01:22] <meffie> greetings
[16:01:25] <yadayada> Hi All
[16:01:35] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Hi Yadav
[16:01:53] <yadayada> Hello Ben
[16:02:44] <wiesand> Not that much to report. Merged away a couple of changes after they received additional review today. Couple of yet-to-understand build failures.
[16:03:28] <wiesand> And had another bad week and particularly bad day agian.
[16:04:09] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Sorry to hear you had another bad week.
[16:04:09] <meffie> sorry to here.
[16:04:14] <meffie> hear.
[16:04:36] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I hope the badness does not follow you to the weekend
[16:05:09] <meffie> i just noticed some of our buildbots are down (and i missed the email alert?) i'll look into it.
[16:05:10] <wiesand> I'm trying. After all, that's what the offender is trying to achieve.
[16:06:33] <wiesand> And speaking frankly about it here and now is making it easier to deal with.
[16:06:54] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Happy to help however we can (even if that's just listening)
[16:07:15] <wiesand> Does help a lot indeed! Thanks!
[16:07:36] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I had a busy week with IETF stuff, but am at last feeling 100%.
(Well, at least until I got my flu shot yesterday, so now my arm
hurts...)
[16:08:01] <meffie> good job! i got mine this week too. ;)
[16:08:11] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Unfortunately, smoke-testing the 1.9.0 candidate reveals that the
kernel module doesn't build on FreeBSD older than 11.0
[16:08:26] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I probably should not actually hold the release for that, though.
[16:08:34] <wiesand> Well, you got a flew shot… not anytime soon here it seems…
[16:09:03] cwills joins the room
[16:09:11] <cwills> good day
[16:10:39] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Hi Cheyenne
[16:11:27] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Not much to report on my end other than that I've been smoke-testing
1.9, though
[16:11:51] <wiesand> Hi Cheyenne. Merge order for the "ubik: Avoid unlinking garbage during recovery" would be 14368, 14369, 14365, right?
[16:12:05] <cwills> let me check
[16:12:54] <cwills> correct
[16:13:21] <wiesand> Thanks :)
[16:15:17] <wiesand> There's still a number of changes on the 1.8.7 wish list, but it looks like we're homing in.
[16:15:35] <wiesand> A lot later than I had hoped, but well…
[16:16:53] <meffie> hopefully the process is smoother with less changes in the gerrit queue
[16:17:22] <wiesand> Any late additions to the 1.8.7 wish list?
[16:17:34] <meffie> nothing new that i know of.
[16:18:03] <wiesand> On to master/1.9 then.
[16:19:17] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think I already said all I had for master/1.9; sorry for going out
of order.
[16:19:57] <wiesand> Nono, fine.
[16:20:27] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> It looks like Andrew refreshed a few stacks he's been working on
[16:20:28] <cwills> master builds cleanly on linux-5.9-rc6+ .. checking 1.8.x now
[16:20:33] <wiesand> > hopefully the process is smoother with less changes in the gerrit queue
[16:20:46] <wiesand> it really is, and thank you all!
[16:20:55] <yadayada> we were trying to compile openafs on Bigsur Beta and we are seeing lots of compilation error due to implicit function declerations. Mike did you faced same issues ? I think it is due to new  compiler.  Also any news on Bigsur patches for beta testing ?
[16:21:50] <meffie> marcio plans to make patches available soon.
[16:22:17] <cwills> what compiler is bugsur using?
[16:22:19] <wiesand> would that be fodder for 1.8.7 or 1.8.8?
[16:22:46] <meffie> i dont think so. this would be for 1.9.x probably.
[16:23:24] <wiesand> er…ok…
[16:23:56] <meffie> but i suppose if the changes are specific to macos, maybe they could be for 1.8.8?
[16:24:01] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I would have thought it would make it to 1.8.x in some point
[16:25:14] <meffie> yes, that is possible i believe.
[16:25:30] <wiesand> I sense a consensus ;-)
[16:25:42] <meffie> if i recall, the changes so far are macos specific.
[16:26:02] <wiesand> Very good ;-)
[16:26:51] <cwills> (clean build for 1.8.x against linux-5.9-rc6+)
[16:27:19] <wiesand> @cwills: verry good, thanks!
[16:27:33] <meffie> thanks cwills
[16:27:39] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> yes, thanks
[16:27:52] <wiesand> More to discuss today?
[16:27:55] <cwills> and it looks like there's a clang-11 rc out that I can try building with
[16:28:07] <yadayada> @cwill I need to switch to bisur system for compiler version. But below are errors we are getting
[16:28:08] <yadayada>               ^
commands.c:2963:13: error: implicit declaration of function 'ubik_Call_SingleServer' is invalid in C99 [-Werror,-Wimplicit-function-declaration]
      code = ubik_Call_SingleServer(BUDB_GetVolumes, udbHandle.uh_client, UF_SINGLESERVER, BUDB_MAJORVERSION, BUDB_OP_DUMPID | BUDB_OP_TA...
          ^
[16:28:21] <wiesand> yay :-/
[16:29:08] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Oh, that mess.  Sigh.
[16:29:32] <yadayada> and I see we use many implicit declerations
[16:30:08] <yadayada> so was thinking to change compiler flags to fallback to treat implicit decleration as warning
[16:30:10] <wiesand> "I just love those sweeping changes"
[16:30:13] <meffie> yes, marcio has these (or similar) issues. he has fixes i think.
[16:30:16] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> But it looks like it's only in the backup systems?  Which is
plausible, seeing how unloved they are
[16:30:40] <meffie> i'll send some mail to him and cc you yadav.
[16:30:47] <cwills> yes butc, bucoord
[16:30:56] <yadayada> it is in multiple places, I think they are in thousands. Thanks mike
[16:31:26] <wiesand> *thousands*?!
[16:31:30] <cwills> dang compilers getting so picky these days
[16:32:00] <yadayada> right even for memset, memcpy lib functions we do not specify headers and land into these errors
[16:33:09] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> for userspace or kernel (memset/memcpy functions)
[16:33:10] <wiesand> Please let's talk about how to tackle this. Changes touching just about every file in the tree are really hard to handle.
[16:33:28] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Probably it would not have to touch every source file
[16:33:47] <meffie> i dont think it is a change to every location. it's a missing header file or some such :)
[16:33:52] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> We should have existing headers we include that can get declarations
for our functions, or pull in system headers as needed
[16:34:20] <yadayada> that's right  for one case like memset just include string.h and it solved 100 of errors
[16:34:33] <meffie> yeah, you'd get thousands of warnings/errors, but it's one change ;)
[16:34:44] <yadayada> right :)
[16:35:32] <meffie> anyway, i'll connect macrio and yadav, they should be able to sort it.
[16:35:53] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Sounds good; thanks.
[16:35:53] <wiesand> :+1:
[16:36:34] <mbarbosa> > we were trying to compile openafs on Bigsur Beta and we are seeing lots of compilation error due to implicit function declerations.
yes, i have work arounds for that (but those workarounds are not candidate solutions for upstream).
[16:36:43] <wiesand> More to discuss today?
[16:37:22] <meffie> (thanks marcio, we will take it offline..)
[16:37:30] <mbarbosa> ok
[16:38:10] <meffie> i dont have anything else.
[16:38:24] <meffie> sorry about the buildbot issues, i'll take a look today.
[16:38:28] <yadayada> nothing from my side
[16:38:36] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Nothing more from here
[16:38:48] <wiesand> Let's adjourn then.
[16:38:59] <wiesand> Thanks a lot everybody!
[16:39:06] <cwills> have a good week everyone
