[16:02:44] wiesand joins the room
[16:03:03] <wiesand> Hello
[16:05:22] <meffie> good afternoon
[16:05:54] cwills joins the room
[16:06:01] <cwills> Hello
[16:07:41] <wiesand> I just rolled the pre2 tarballs
[16:08:08] <meffie> hooray !
[16:08:30] <wiesand> Really sorry for being so slow lately
[16:08:46] <meffie> it is understandable, we all are slow these days
[16:10:53] <cwills> linux 5.7 fixes are in review
[16:11:23] <wiesand> Saw them. Thanks a lot.
[16:11:33] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Hooray for pre2 tarballs!
[16:11:40] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> (sorry I'm late)
[16:11:42] <mvita2> greetings
[16:12:25] <wiesand> Hello Mark
[16:12:39] <mvita2> Hello Stephan!
[16:14:31] <wiesand> uploading
[16:15:35] <wiesand> should we eventually move from gz and bz2 to, say, gz and xz?
[16:16:34] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> It's worth considering, yes.
[16:16:57] <wiesand> (maybe that's already in the make-release etc. cahnges, I haven't looked at those closely yet)
[16:17:19] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> We tend to support old OSes for a longer tail than some projects, so
will probably not have full expectation of support for (e.g.) xz right
away, but so long as gzip support is universal it shouldn't be a
problem
[16:19:55] <meffie> make-release just has gz and bz2 at the moment. i add other types after i finish the 'make-rpm' topic, if that helps.
[16:28:06] <meffie> ping?
[16:28:18] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> pong
[16:28:33] <meffie> :)
[16:28:46] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I was just about to say that I don't remember having anything to
report this week, but I also only really remember like the past 2
days.
[16:28:58] <wiesand> sorry, was distracted - upload completed, volumes released, checums verified
[16:29:09] <meffie> thanks!
[16:29:26] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Thanks!
[16:30:27] <wiesand> so, ready to announce and put it on the web, but that will have to wait until I've mowed the lawn...
[16:30:39] <mvita2> heh
[16:30:58] <cwills> You know if you don't water it, you don't need to mow it ::ducking and running::
[16:31:02] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I have also been discovering that the lawn waits on no one, now that
the sun is out and the days are long
[16:32:10] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> And I don't think the "don't water it" trick will wor out here until
... mid June or so.
[16:33:25] <wiesand> it would work out perfectly here - 3rd year in a row that spring is much too dry (and the last two summers were too)
[16:33:46] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Ouch, that is not a promising sign
[16:33:52] <wiesand> alas, that would quite literally turn my garden into a desert
[16:37:08] <wiesand> anything else to discuss today?
[16:37:35] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Let's see, for things I'm tracking for master, I still need to push
the 1.9.0 NEWS and test the upgrade/configure-rxgk process.
1364[56] are on my radar as well
new linux stuff
the SIGBUS fix that Mark has been working on
[16:38:08] <mvita2> yup, still working on that - I tried a number of things that did not work
[16:38:10] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Oh, and the makesrpm and make-release bits
[16:38:19] <mvita2> but I think I have a way forward
[16:38:30] <mvita2> we'll see how it tests out
[16:38:49] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> But mostly I'm ust in the "need to find time" stage of things :-/
[16:39:02] <meffie> going to push an update to the makesrpm bits soon, with better commit messages and more cleanups.
[16:39:15] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Ah, thanks for the heads-up
[16:40:19] <cwills> just a heads up on the linux 5.7 fix.. the patch will affect earlier releases since it's using a function that's been around for a while
[16:41:02] <meffie> earlier releases?
[16:41:15] <cwills> kernel releases
[16:41:19] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> We should have been using a different function for a while but are
only now realizing it, roughly
[16:41:33] <meffie> ah! yes, that's always the case.
[16:41:38] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> This has happened before, but it is something to be aware of if
post-release bug reports come in
[16:41:46] <meffie> well, commonly.
[16:44:01] <meffie> i'm also trying to figure out why configure fails with "no gssapi libs" found when --without-krb is given.
[16:44:01] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Anything else for today?
[16:44:13] <cwills> Oh..
[16:44:18] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> You may also want to pass --without-gssapi?
[16:44:19] <meffie> seen on the 11.4 builder as well.
[16:44:20] <cwills> I did a quick look at that
[16:44:37] <cwills> It's pulled in via one of the external's
[16:44:44] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Though perhaps the one should imply the other, hmm.
[16:44:46] <meffie> this seems to happen only on 1.8.x?
[16:45:09] <meffie> this seems to happen only on 1.8.x.
[16:45:51] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> 1.8.x and not master?
[16:46:08] <meffie> yes, it happens only on 1.8 and not master, i believe.
[16:46:18] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Huh.
[16:46:22] <meffie> just started looking at why.
[16:46:36] <mvita2> Huh, indeed.
[16:46:36] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Okay.  Well, I probably shouldn't duplicate the effort then.
[16:46:40] <meffie> maybe it's something fixed on the master branch.
[16:47:49] <meffie> that's all i have.
[16:48:48] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Okay, thanks.
[16:49:51] <wiesand> Adjourn?
[16:50:15] <mvita2> <support>
[16:50:19] <meffie> Have a good weekend
[16:50:26] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Have a good weekend, and thanks everyone!
[16:50:32] <wiesand> Thanks a lot everybody!
[16:50:32] <mvita2> bye
[16:50:38] wiesand leaves the room
[16:50:38] <mvita2> happy May Day!
[16:51:09] <cwills> stay safe everyone
[16:53:30] meffie leaves the room
[16:53:57] cwills leaves the room
[19:12:18] mbarbosa leaves the room
[19:12:43] mbarbosa joins the room
