[12:19:43] mbarbosa joins the room
[14:53:43] kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl joins the room
[15:25:21] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> gerrit feels particularly sluggish today
[15:26:49] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> ...and I'm in "can send but not receive" state, ugh.
[15:27:01] kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl leaves the room
[15:27:05] kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl joins the room
[15:27:50] kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl leaves the room
[15:28:54] kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl joins the room
[15:29:55] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think I fixed it.
[15:50:17] cwills joins the room
[16:01:12] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Greetings
[16:02:05] <cwills> good morning
[16:03:50] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Had a lot of activity the past couple days :)
[16:05:53] <cwills> I'm just about to push commit that splits out the the compiler flag check.
[16:06:51] yadayada joins the room
[16:07:07] <yadayada> Hi All, sorry for joining late
[16:07:21] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> No worries; we haven't really gotten started yet anyway
[16:07:40] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I hope Stephan is feeling well; he hasn't joined yet.
[16:07:58] yadayada leaves the room
[16:08:25] wiesand joins the room
[16:08:38] <cwills> Speaking of Stephan :)
[16:08:48] yadayada joins the room
[16:09:05] <wiesand> I'm feeling well, given the circumstances…
[16:09:15] <wiesand> Sorry for being late
[16:11:54] meffie joins the room
[16:12:07] <wiesand> Had set time apart for working on openafs. Alas, my superiors, long may their names be praised, decided to throw lots of stuff at me today, and I ended up spending most of that time explaining why that stuff makes no sense and is impossible to execute :-(
[16:12:12] <meffie> oops, lost track of time!
[16:12:42] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I just posted some comments on 13673 that may be relevant for you,
Stephan -- we don't mention macOS Catalina in the 1.8.6 NEWS that I
can see, and the questionably-noteworthy fix of `tokens` output for
three-character cell names.
[16:12:56] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Ah, management; it never changes.
[16:13:22] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Oh, and it looks like the 13537 cherry-pick as well
[16:14:23] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> But I guess that was earlier, hmm, so maybe it was a bug in my
searching
[16:15:27] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> And so was the three-character cell-name thing, so maybe it's just
Catalina that is missing from 1.8.6 NEWS
[16:15:28] <wiesand> hmm, "macOS
    * Support building, packaging and notarization on macOS 10.15 "Catalina"
      (14031..7 14068)"
[16:15:44] <wiesand> (from 14096)
[16:17:30] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Uh-oh, I guess I better get to an optometrist
[16:18:02] <meffie> i'll add mbarbosa as a reviewer to 14096 too.
[16:19:21] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Sorry for the noise!
[16:19:23] <wiesand> and I could swear I actually wrote something about the three-charachter-cell-name thing, but I'll double-check
[16:20:13] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Yeah, the three-character-cell-name thing was in 1.8.5, and I was only
looking at the gerrit view for 14096 so I missed it
[16:20:29] <wiesand> thanks
[16:21:34] <wiesand> NB what was left of today I spent on smoke testing our client on the EL7.8 kernel released this week - looks like we're at least basically ok
[16:23:49] <wiesand> I'm guilty of having been pretty inactive for the past two weeks. Spent them staring at corona figures like a rabbit at a snake…
[16:24:12] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think we all have been
[16:24:20] <cwills> stressful times :(
[16:24:28] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think I have to go to the grocery store today, and will spend a lot
of time preparing to go out.
[16:25:23] <wiesand> I'm also feeling uneasy about sending something like "look, 1.8.6pre2 is out, ain't that great" to -announce these days.
[16:25:39] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> How so?
[16:26:46] <wiesand> Well, it's probably just me. Anyway, you're right and we shouldn't suspend the project til times are better.
[16:27:44] <wiesand> So, I notice some additional changes have been pulled up to 1.8.x lately - anything crucial to include in 1.8.6pre2? Or can those wait?
[16:27:58] <cwills> Well.. there was a response to the email that the workshop was canceled requesting a general update on where things are, so I think having something that shows where things are and where things are going would be "nice"
[16:28:11] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> cwills: agreed
[16:28:19] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I was hoping to have 1.9.0 out before responding...
[16:29:29] <wiesand> cwills: you're probably right - this is my first global crisis…
[16:29:55] <meffie> a 1.9.0 tag would be good news indeed
[16:30:01] <cwills> new territory for all of us..
[16:30:07] <wiesand> I'll see to get 1.8.6pre2 out this weekend.
[16:30:46] <cwills> 14130 might be of interest.  It fixes a broken autoconf test with newer kernels.
[16:30:47] <meffie> regarding the 1.8.x gerrits, i dont think there is anything new
[16:30:52] <meffie> nor critical
[16:30:58] <cwills> (well 3.17 and newer)
[16:31:15] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think the only new one since last week is 14130
[16:31:17] <wiesand> NB we had one of those obscure panics due to "disk cache read errors" like the one reported by the edinburgh folks, and I'm 99.99% sure it wasn't the hardware.
[16:31:56] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> and I think we can do 1.8.6 without 14130
[16:32:02] <cwills> I think so too
[16:32:44] <meffie> thanks. maybe we should hold off on pulling up any more commits to 1.8.x until 1.8.6 has been released?
[16:32:46] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Ah, thanks for the "disk cache read errors" heads-up.  I remember some
changes going by vaguely in that space (sanity-checking cache content,
not looping indefinitely), but am not sure that anything would be
directly relevant to the listed scenario.
[16:33:10] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I'll try to refrain from pulling up more things to 1.8.x, yes
[16:33:18] <meffie> cwills ?
[16:34:04] <cwills> yes?
[16:34:38] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> No more 1.8.x pullups until after 1.8.6-final?
[16:34:53] <meffie> we should hold up pushing non-critical stuff to 1.8.x until we have a 1.8.6
[16:35:00] <cwills> sounds good
[16:35:05] <yadayada> agree
[16:35:11] <wiesand> thanks :)
[16:35:22] <meffie> :)
[16:35:23] <wiesand> NB how about 14129?
[16:35:54] <wiesand> just cosmetics, agreed
[16:36:04] <meffie> i feel we should leave that as is.
[16:36:23] <meffie> the site has been updated, and i'm going to add links to old workshops.
[16:36:47] <wiesand> ok
[16:38:14] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Mike, I pushed a couple updates to 1.9.0 NEWS during the meeting, if
you wanted to re-confirm your +1.  Then we just need to have a bit of
writeup for how to get started with the rxgk bits
[16:38:29] <meffie> jhutz has been very helpful in releasing the www.workshop <http://www.workshop> volume quickly
[16:38:49] <meffie> ok
[16:39:06] <wiesand> I'll abandon 14129
[16:39:35] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> (Is that pidgin auto-linkifying everything that starts with "www"?
Ah, for the days before TLS proliferation...)
[16:40:23] <meffie> yes, that's pidgin being "helpful"
[16:41:09] <meffie> 1.9.0 changes looks good. thank you.
[16:41:35] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I don't know that I have a whole lot else to talk about today;
pandemic has been keeping everything on edge.
[16:42:15] <cwills> clean builds on linux 5.6.0 w/master and 1.8.x
[16:42:19] <meffie> yes. fortunately these meetings are already online.
[16:42:44] <meffie> socially distant development
[16:43:39] <wiesand> cwills: noticed. thanks.
[16:44:01] <meffie> in other news, i've been corresponding with Christof about the opensuse builders and with his help setup a new raspberry pi based arm64 buildbot worker :)
[16:44:37] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Exciting!
[16:44:40] <cwills> some pending bleeding edge compiler patches are pending (gcc-10)
[16:44:40] <meffie> and made an ansible playbook to setup the buildbot worker.
[16:44:54] <meffie> (and some help from cwills too;)
[16:46:15] <wiesand> good that Christof is still with us
[16:47:12] <meffie> that's all the news i have today.
[16:47:26] <wiesand> adjourn?
[16:47:34] <meffie> second
[16:47:34] <yadayada> nothing from my side
[16:47:43] <cwills> sounds good.  stay safe everyone
[16:47:50] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Thanks everyone, and stay safe!
[16:47:53] <meffie> thank you everyone. please please stay safe!
[16:48:02] <yadayada> thanks
[16:48:06] <wiesand> Thanks a lot everybody. Please take care!
