[17:01:59] <wiesand> hi
[17:02:10] <yadayada> Hi All
[17:04:20] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Greetings
[17:04:47] <wiesand> So, about 14078… is it so bad that it doesn't even warrant review?
[17:06:06] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I didn't notice it existed yet :(
[17:06:43] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I have been pretty weak and foggy the past couple days.  Almost like
the flu, but no fever.  And while technically I did travel two weeks
ago yesterday, I'm pretty sure it's not coronavirus.
[17:07:39] <cwills> ::Meffie just msgs and said he has car trouble::
[17:09:40] <wiesand> @Ben: good it's not corona
[17:10:24] mmeffie joins the room
[17:10:36] <mmeffie> flat tire.
[17:10:40] <wiesand> @Cheyenne: thanks for letting us know
[17:11:09] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> oh no; flat tires are no fun
[17:11:19] <wiesand> @Mike: flat tire in mid winter… aouch!
[17:11:43] <cwills> On a Linux 5.6 note.. I'm cleaning up a patch for linux-5.6-rc3 -- they removed time_t and timeval from kernel space (Y2038 related).
[17:13:20] <yadayada> @Ben I tried 14046 patch and it looks fine to me. Added +1 for review
[17:13:26] <wiesand> Good! Noticed that 5.6-rc3 broke us. If a fix is at hand, we should probably even delay 1.8.6pre1 for it.
[17:13:47] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Yadav: thanks!  Let me go merge that now...
[17:13:59] <cwills> I have a fix.. it's been tested -- just need to make the commit ready for primetime.
[17:16:39] <mmeffie> (spare tire is on :)
[17:17:30] <wiesand> Ok, please do and push it. We should get out a 1.8.6pre1 with 5.6-rc3 support and a 14046 (ppcle64 support)  pullup "really soon now" then.
[17:17:42] <yadayada> This week I was working on RHEL8 and we saw for gnome terminal we do not get tokens using PAM auth
[17:17:48] <cwills> Okay.. will push in a few minutes..
[17:18:07] <yadayada> reason I brought sometime back also systemd spwans gnome terminal
[17:18:16] <yadayada> I saw some discussion on openafs page
[17:18:17] <yadayada> https://lists.openafs.org/pipermail/openafs-info/2018-March/042380.html
[17:18:23] <wiesand> Maybe we should call it pre2 (Steven in Edinb'ro already picked up the pre1 srpms…)
[17:18:41] <yadayada> there they have workaround to add aklog.service file
[17:19:04] <yadayada> it works , but do we agree that;s a way for it ? just want to bring to your notice
[17:20:21] <wiesand> Don't get me started on that stuff…
[17:20:35] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I don't know of a better way that has a chance of being deployable
[17:21:19] <yadayada> ok, even I think that;s a workaround for now .. will discuss more offline on it
[17:22:18] <wiesand> "I don't know about Kerberos et al, and I don't care"… then they re-invent the better part of it! "So sad…"
[17:26:09] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think my pithy summary of the fundamental impedence mismatch is an
assumption by systemd authors that the local kernel is the source of
authorization decisions (and thus can let privileged processes do
privileged things), but that's not really the case when remote
resources are in play.
[17:27:37] <wiesand> Ok, no announcement of 1.8.6pre1, and 1.8.6pre2 blocking on Linux 5.6-rc3 support. Fine.
[17:28:43] <wiesand> @Ben: "remote resources" are just way out of the picture if all you know about is your personal laptop
[17:30:03] <cwills> ::running last minute build/quick test before pushing commit::
[17:30:39] <wiesand> I won't get anything done today anyway, so please take your time.
[17:30:49] <cwills> 'k
[17:30:50] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> "After all that work I did reviewing the pre1 announcement just now"
:-P
[17:32:39] <wiesand> Thanks :)
[17:33:09] <wiesand> Will take those remarks into account in the 1.8.6pre2 announcement.
[17:35:53] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> If I can jump in with a random question as I am trying to review
things: for 14053 ("volser: remove duplicate directory object definitions from
restorevol"), Cheyenne do you still have a question outstanding?  It
sounds like I should hold off on reviewing it for now, at least...
[17:36:16] <cwills> let me check
[17:36:24] <wiesand> I think that's all regarding the stable series for today. On to 1.9/master?
[17:37:01] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Not too much from me -- see above about not feeling great
[17:37:47] <wiesand> Not feeling great either… no, it's very unlikely to be Corona
[17:38:11] <cwills> @Ben: I think my concern is if this would impact trying to restore using an old dump file
[17:38:35] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Ah, that is a good thing to look at/check.
[17:38:49] <mmeffie> should it just not use more name extents?
[17:39:35] <cwills> I was think more along the lines of what is being read out of an old dump file
[17:40:35] <mmeffie> the dumps would have been made with name[16], no?
[17:42:08] <mmeffie> maybe it is a question for mark.
[17:42:48] <cwills> I'll update my comment to be more clear on my question
[17:42:59] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Seems likely a question for Mark, yes.
[17:44:06] <wiesand> More to discuss today?
[17:44:57] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I am not thinking of anything, with this foggy brain
[17:45:22] <wiesand> (I might fall asleep anytime unless there is…)
[17:45:37] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Let's adjourn, then.
[17:45:48] <wiesand> Seconded.
[17:45:49] <mmeffie> have a good weekend
[17:45:53] <yadayada> nothing from my side. I will try new fix from cwill for time related changes once they are out
[17:45:57] <yadayada> Thanks
[17:46:00] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Thanks everyone!
[17:46:02] <wiesand> Thanks a lot everybody!.
[17:46:10] mmeffie leaves the room
