[14:53:20] meffie joins the room
[14:53:33] <meffie> good morning/afternoon
[14:59:05] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> greetings
[15:00:25] mvita joins the room
[15:00:40] <mvita> hello
[15:00:57] <mvita> meffie and I are in the same room for once
[15:01:54] <meffie> yes, i see the back of mark's head.
[15:02:21] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Is it an auditorium?
[15:02:47] <mvita> no, a small meeting room in Winchester VA
[15:02:56] <mvita> annual company mtg
[15:04:25] <mvita> Ben thank you for the +2 on thread quota 13873
[15:05:30] wiesand joins the room
[15:05:40] <wiesand> sooorrieeee
[15:05:56] <mvita> no worries
[15:06:33] <wiesand> I'm not all that well today, and I don't have a lot to talk about.
[15:06:43] <wiesand> No progress on the 1.6 mess.
[15:06:53] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> > 13873
no problem!  I wasn't sure if I should wait for Mike to try to put a
+1 back on or not
[15:07:33] <wiesand> My question for today is when to release 1.8.4
[15:08:42] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I propose ... next week?
[15:10:06] <wiesand> Yes, I'm much in favour of getting it out a.s.a.p. - but maybe waiting for preliminary results with Linux 5.4-rc1 would be expedient?
[15:10:09] <meffie> +1 on 13873 thanks
[15:11:26] <wiesand> not sure when the merge window ends though - anyone?
[15:11:37] <mvita> I know of one site that plans to run 1.8.4-rc2 but don't know how soon
[15:12:16] <wiesand> good news anyway - what's the killer feature?
[15:12:20] <meffie> sorry dont know when the linux merge window ends
[15:14:13] <wiesand> I'll find out - anyway, "next week, maybe the week after" seems like a reasonable 1.8.4 schedule to me
[15:14:20] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> +1
[15:15:02] <wiesand> And then we'll have to work on 1.8.5. Plenty of changes were already pulled up.
[15:15:20] mbarbosa leaves the room
[15:15:20] mbarbosa joins the room
[15:15:33] <mvita> I think Linux 5.4 merge window ends on Sunday Sep 29
[15:16:08] <wiesand> Some carry a -1, some haven't been reviewed, some haven't been verified by buildbot. Just a very few in all those cases.
[15:16:28] <wiesand> Cleaning those up would be most helpful.
[15:16:39] <meffie> most of the current changes pulled up are to fix build problems, to keep the buildbots happy.
[15:17:21] <meffie> i'll tell the buildbot to retry any missed.
[15:17:40] <wiesand> Mark: Thanks, that's my guess, I just couldn't find a confirmation yet.
[15:18:09] <mvita> I couldn't either
[15:18:35] <meffie> once 1.8.4 is final, i can pull up the ones i posted to the release-team list some weeks ago (bug fixes on master to be pulled up)
[15:19:50] <wiesand> Mike: many may be build fixes, others clearly aren't (like , say 13765)
[15:20:26] <wiesand> frankly, I'd like to have as many of those "simple fixes" merged before pulling up more stuff
[15:21:29] <wiesand> "as many as possible"
[15:22:20] <meffie> sounds good. thank you
[15:24:21] <wiesand> Looks like we have a plan regarding 1.8.4 and 1.8.5pre then, thanks!
[15:24:32] <wiesand> On to 1.9/master?
[15:25:17] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Not much to report on master from me :(
[15:26:10] <meffie> not true, AFS_PRT_FMT is dead :)
[15:26:50] <wiesand> I have to admit I'd be grateful for a little break - there's been way more trickling down from master than we can consume in stable releases recently ;-)
[15:27:17] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> You don't have to take it all ... people need incentive to move to
1.9, after all ;)
[15:27:31] <meffie> (AFS_PTR_FMT)
[15:28:47] <wiesand> Ben: Yeah, but at the rate you folks are going 1.9 is rapidly becoming the next stable, not some interim testing release.
[15:29:39] mvita leaves the room
[15:29:41] <wiesand> Which may be just fine. It's just a change of plans as conceived by me so far…
[15:29:43] mvita joins the room
[15:29:54] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> True
[15:31:12] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I am maybe getting to a point where I feel less swamped with
IETF/work/house stuff, which would let me spend more time on AFS
[15:31:24] <mvita> nice
[15:31:26] <meffie> yay
[15:31:51] <wiesand> "mixed feelings", for the reasons outlined above ;-)
[15:32:03] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> :)
[15:32:07] <wiesand> just kidding of course!
[15:34:24] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Any other topics?
[15:34:38] <mvita> nothing here, thank you
[15:35:04] <wiesand> As a data point, we had teo getcwd() cases here this week.
[15:35:09] <wiesand> two
[15:35:31] <mvita> uggh
[15:35:34] <mvita> sorry
[15:35:51] <mvita> linux native mountpoints is our friend in this regard
[15:36:08] <mvita> what release were you running?
[15:36:20] <meffie> nothing from me. just reviewing gerrits! :)
[15:36:23] <mvita> and which RH?
[15:37:00] <wiesand> Admittedly, 1.6 client, and looking forward to getting what we have in 1.8.4pre2 onto my clients, and yes "native mounts too".
[15:37:11] <wiesand> EL7, with a late 7.6 kernel
[15:38:28] <mvita> okay, thanks
[15:39:39] <wiesand> Looks like we're finished for today. Adjourn?
[15:39:50] <mvita> ok
[15:39:50] <meffie> +1
[15:39:56] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Thanks everyone!
[15:40:05] <wiesand> Thanks a lot everybody!
[15:40:26] <meffie> thanks have a good weekend. review review review.
[15:40:35] <wiesand> +1 ;-)
[15:41:02] wiesand leaves the room
[15:41:49] <meffie> i hope wiesand feels better soon.
[15:43:17] <meffie> have a good weekend
[15:48:20] meffie leaves the room
