[15:00:53] <wiesand> Hello
[15:01:32] <wiesand> been a slacker last week - my apologies
[15:01:34] meffie joins the room
[15:01:42] <meffie> good morning.
[15:01:50] <yadayada> hello all
[15:01:55] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I've been a bit of a slacker, too
[15:01:59] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> (so also apologies)
[15:02:13] <mvita> present
[15:02:26] <wiesand> so, not that much news on 1.8.4pre1
[15:03:12] <wiesand> just merged two changes discussed last week - 13679, 13692
[15:04:28] <meffie> cheyenne reports he has patches to be pushed to gerrit for linux 5.3
[15:04:53] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I finally bit the bullet and am doing a real review of the restorevol
gcc8-checking change
[15:05:03] <meffie> to fix the shutdown issues he had on linux 5.3
[15:05:13] <meffie> thanks ben
[15:06:00] <wiesand> the last one (and Mike asked for review of that in the report) hasn't received additional review
[15:06:29] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Remind me which number it was?
[15:06:38] <wiesand> and we have two dozen new pull-ups - anything among those we should consider for inclusion in 1.8.4pre1?
[15:06:41] <meffie> have we added 'reviewers' in gerrit?
[15:06:57] <yadayada> I created a patch for dput issue and created a gerrit 13748 based on openafs-stable-1_8_x
[15:09:12] <meffie> thanks yadav
[15:09:23] <wiesand> yadav: yes, that's one of those where I wonder whether we should delay 1.8.4pre1 for
[15:10:58] <yadayada> this issue is not easily reproducible and I do not have any test case to simulate it. So it might occur rarely. So if we want to delay it we can
[15:12:02] <wiesand> deferred then, thanks :)
[15:12:10] <meffie> :)
[15:12:43] <wiesand> ben: was talking about 13676, but admittedly there was no explicit review request for that one
[15:15:13] <wiesand> all that aside, there's no change of plans: get 1.8.4pre1 out the door a.s.a.p. - I hope the next week will be a bit better than the last one here...
[15:16:27] <meffie> ok, thank you
[15:17:01] <yadayada> One query, I was thinking of testing 1.8.4pre1 on P8 ppc64 and ppc64le arch. Kindly let me know if we have done testing on those arch ?
[15:17:36] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I don't think anyone else has done such testing
[15:18:11] <yadayada> ok, we have some stress test which I can execute. If you have some more test cases which I can use please share so.
[15:18:21] <mvita> would IBM ever consider providing a P8 builder?
[15:18:48] <yadayada> I have to check on that. But for time I can do some sanity test on our pre-releases
[15:19:00] <mvita> is this for AIX or Linux?
[15:19:04] <yadayada> Linux
[15:20:36] <wiesand> do we claim to support these platforms yet?
[15:22:44] <yadayada> I see our build has support for ppc64 and ppc64le.  We at IBM are using OpenAFS on ppc64le for long time
[15:23:55] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> https://gerrit.openafs.org/13562 seems to be the first mention, which
is fairly recent but did not involve code changes
[15:27:08] <yadayada> We had created a patch for ppc64le long back and I think shared with Mike also. Mainly changes are in some headers as mentioned in 13562 and some minor changes.
[15:27:55] <wiesand> I'm not saying we shouldn't - but my feeling is that if you expect a stable openafs release to work flawlessly on ppc64[le] right now that expectation isn't quite right
[15:29:30] <wiesand> yadav: lots of probably good changes have been lost simply because we weren't able to digest them timely
[15:29:50] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> indeed :(
[15:32:11] <meffie> Maybe you could test "1.9.0" on ppc when it is ready, as well as 1.8.x? to see what needs to be pulled up to stable?
[15:32:35] <yadayada> sure that sounds good
[15:32:50] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> (Noting that since 1.9.x are supposed to be fast-paced development
releases, there won't be any prerelease versions for them -- if
there's a problem, we just make a 1.9.x+1)
[15:34:03] <wiesand> thanks for the reminder…
[15:34:47] <wiesand> so, 1.8.4pre1 delayed, my fault, but roadmap/scope unchanged
[15:34:55] <wiesand> on to 1.9/master then?
[15:36:02] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> No action from me on the big/exciting topics of chroot-sysnames,
linux-native-mounts, and RX listener
[15:36:29] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I did merge Yadav's dput deadlock fix and push an update to the
restorevol gcc8-checking change that will hopefully be mergeable
[15:37:28] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I do want to try to get some of the freebsd changes in soon, since
many of them are small and I left Tim hanging for a long time when
they first came in
[15:37:35] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Andrew has been helping with those, which is great
[15:38:02] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> But mostly my time has been taken up by working on my house :-/
[15:38:23] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> yay, buildbot likes the restorevol bits
(https://gerrit.openafs.org/13494)
[15:40:51] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I guess ... Mike had looked at an earlier version?  And ideally
Cheyenne could comment on my messy fingers, too.
[15:41:27] <meffie> yes, i reviewed an early version
[15:42:27] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I don't think it's critical to have another reviewer on it, if you
don't want to look at it again now
[15:42:58] <meffie> i can look at the new version, but traveling at the moment.
[15:43:49] <wiesand> the dput deadlock fix (13748) is clearly on the list of changes we want in 1.8.5
[15:45:21] <wiesand> freebsd fixes are of course welcome too
[15:45:39] <meffie> ok, great. i think i posted a list of gerrits we might want for 1.8.5 on the release-team list about 2 weeks ago, if i recall.
[15:45:48] <wiesand> linux 5.3 - sure
[15:48:34] <meffie> Subject: [OpenAFS release-team] candidates for 1.8.x stable
Date: Fri, 12 Jul 2019 10:54:16 -0400
[15:49:03] <wiesand> mike: "candidates for 1.8.x stable" (from July 12th?) - yes, that's helpful, thanks - it's time to start planning/bokkeeping for 12.8.5 anyway
[15:49:15] <wiesand> ;-)
[15:49:26] <meffie> thanks
[15:50:56] <wiesand> more to discuss today?
[15:51:38] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Just my usual checking if there are particularly timely things I
should prioritize looking at
[15:52:46] <wiesand> nothing from my side this week
[15:53:17] <yadayada> nothing from my side
[15:53:29] <meffie> nothing here. note, the force gerrit build is working for me. let me know you need a buildbot login.
[15:53:37] <mvita> nothing here
[15:54:05] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Okay.  Sounds like we should adjourn, then.
[15:54:11] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Thanks everyone!
[15:54:16] <meffie> thanks!
[15:54:25] <yadayada> thanks
[15:54:26] <wiesand> I concur. Thanks a lot everybody!
[15:54:40] wiesand leaves the room
[15:54:44] <mvita> bye
