[12:30:07] meffie joins the room
[12:53:03] wiesand joins the room
[13:02:21] <wiesand> Hello
[13:03:10] <mvita> hello
[13:03:16] <wiesand> Is it correct that now is the usual start time of the meeting for US participants, or am I getting DST wrong again?
[13:03:51] <mvita> yes, this is the right time for us - but I don't remember if we based it on our time or yours….
[13:04:22] <mvita> are you at 1pm now?
[13:04:33] <mvita> or, no...
[13:04:49] <wiesand> Well, you are the majority here, and I've always tried to keep the time the same for you.
[13:05:03] <mvita> oh, okay, thank you.
[13:05:04] <wiesand> No, it's 2pm now, rather than the usual 3pm.
[13:06:04] <wiesand> I should have replied to Mike's mail where it says "taking place 14:00 GMT"
[13:06:27] <wiesand> Anyway, I don't expect there's a lot to discuss today
[13:06:44] <mvita> thank you for getting 1.8.3-pre1 out
[13:07:06] <wiesand> already
[13:07:32] <mvita> life takes precedence
[13:07:51] <wiesand> I hope things will go smoother again now that I'm rid of my old flat
[13:08:39] <wiesand> Do we have any other feedback on 1.8.3pre1 yet, besides Mike's smoke test?
[13:08:48] <mvita> I haven't heard anything
[13:09:26] <wiesand> Is Mike going to round up his usual volunteers? Or are those still 1.6-only?
[13:09:39] <mvita> oh, I don't know, sorry
[13:09:47] <mvita> I will ask him.
[13:10:10] <mvita> I've pinged him this morning, but he must be unavailable for some reason
[13:10:20] <wiesand> No pressure. It's been only a few days yet.
[13:10:27] <mvita> right
[13:10:38] <wiesand> Uh, let's hope it's not anything serious!
[13:11:28] <wiesand> I saw Andrew picked up 134904, which is great.
[13:11:44] <meffie> (oh, i though this was starting at 10)
[13:12:27] <wiesand> I may be able to help out regarding his question about the patches in the Ubuntu ppa packages.
[13:12:35] <wiesand> Ah, hello Mike :)
[13:12:50] <meffie> (was here at 8 just to be sure i did the math right :)
[13:13:04] <mvita> no, Stephan says it is our custom to keep it at the same time for US
[13:13:25] <mvita> it is 2:13PM for him right now
[13:13:26] <wiesand> I failed once last year, yes.
[13:13:40] <wiesand> But that was by accident.
[13:14:36] <meffie> i can try to mail the list of volunteers, but i think that list needs to be updated...
[13:14:59] <wiesand> Shifting by an hour in either direction is no problem for me. After all it's friday afternoon, and system administrators are handcuffed anyway ;-)
[13:15:24] <wiesand> Or should be.
[13:15:27] <mvita> we have a standing meeting at 10 our time
[13:16:27] <wiesand> Yes, I figured. I just meant it's no problem to keep the US start time during thosw DST skew weeks.
[13:16:31] <meffie> fyi, the centos6 rpms for 1.8.3pre1 have been uploaded on the sna site now
[13:16:49] <meffie> i should make some rhel8 (beta) ones.
[13:16:57] <wiesand> good to know, thanks
[13:17:18] <wiesand> I haven't gotten around to looking at RHEL8 beta yet ;-(
[13:17:37] <wiesand> Last thing I heard is that our packaging wouldn't work
[13:17:47] <meffie> sounds likely.
[13:18:06] <wiesand> yes
[13:18:58] <wiesand> re volunteers, it would be great if you found a few of yours - I think they were the major source of feedback for the past couple of releases
[13:19:08] <meffie> ok, i'll try.
[13:19:38] <meffie> and, i'll see if i can find more too.
[13:20:00] <wiesand> The client I'm running it on is still fine, but I don't even have a fileserver yet, let alone a test cell.
[13:20:46] <meffie> i'm running 1.8.3pre1 on my desktop now.
[13:21:05] <wiesand> good ;-)
[13:21:35] <meffie> i feel so bleeding edge :)
[13:22:01] <mvita> "don't get cocky, kid"
[13:22:20] <meffie> to be honest, i normally run the daily master branch on my desktop.
[13:22:43] <wiesand> now that *is* brave
[13:23:11] <meffie> yes, i've rarely had problems lately. it used to be really risky.
[13:23:17] <mvita> heh
[13:23:51] <wiesand> I think it's a bit too early to discuss whether any of the open changes for 1.8.x must make the 1.8.3 release. Let's talk about that next week?
[13:24:00] <mvita> okay
[13:24:11] <meffie> +1 sounds good to me
[13:25:02] <wiesand> My general preference is to rather get 1.8.3 out as is, and have a timely 1.8.4pre1.
[13:25:34] <mvita> that sound reasonable as well
[13:25:43] <meffie> agreed.
[13:25:44] <mvita> sounds
[13:26:33] <wiesand> Re 1.6.x, I merged some of the Linux changes, but got stuck because something seems to be missing.
[13:26:54] <wiesand> I have to look into this in more detail, and will soon.
[13:27:10] <meffie> oh, i think Cheyenne mentioned the same.
[13:27:24] <wiesand> I just didn't want to spend time on the issue before 1.8.3pre1
[13:27:35] <meffie> i'll ask him at 10.
[13:28:34] <wiesand> I saw Cheyenne's comment, but it doesn't help me… but as I said, I have yet to have a closer look. Chances are I'll get it sorted out w/o further help.
[13:28:55] <meffie> ok
[13:30:17] <wiesand> There'll also be more to pull up from 1.8.x, but I can take care of that once the mess has been cleaned up.
[13:31:02] <meffie> ok, btw, the buildbots are back up. email me if you see any issues.
[13:31:03] <wiesand> More pullups right now are just likely to cause more conflicts and make thinks more unwieldy.
[13:31:20] <wiesand> I was going to ask, thanks.
[13:31:27] <mvita> <nod>
[13:31:57] <wiesand> BTW, is it on purpose that buildbot tries to verify changes to openafs-web?
[13:34:28] <mvita> that seems unlikely
[13:35:31] <wiesand> that's what I guessed ;-)
[13:35:32] <meffie> no, that's just a "bug" left over from the old configuration. i've forgotten about that bug. i think we can check which gerrit "project"
[13:36:10] <meffie> i'll make a ticket so i dont forget.
[13:36:38] <wiesand> changes there are pretty infrequent though, so it's not serious
[13:37:28] <meffie> (more importantly, I want a way to manually retry gerrit verifications based on change/patchset number.)
[13:38:02] <wiesand> yes, that should get a higher priority IMHO
[13:38:38] <wiesand> (higher than attempting openafs-web change verification)
[13:39:28] <wiesand> Thanks a lot for the buildbot work!
[13:40:04] <meffie> you are welcome.
[13:41:10] <wiesand> Speaking of indispensable project infrastructure… the mail from jhutz indicates there are plans to move services off CMU systems?
[13:41:51] <wiesand> Any ideas where they will move to?
[13:42:49] <meffie> i interpreted that as they were just removing AFSDB records in DNS in favor of the more standard SRV records.
[13:43:32] <mvita> yes, just the DNS service is moving for the OpenAFS servers, not the servers themselves
[13:43:35] <meffie> since AFSDB DNS records are poorly supported, and SRV records are standard now.
[13:44:27] <meffie> i think SNA will do the same, since all modern clients use SRV DNS records now.
[13:45:01] <wiesand> but they can still use AFSDB recards as a fallback, right?
[13:45:23] <mvita> yes, that support is still present in the client
[13:46:08] <wiesand> no hurry then, unless one wants to switch to a DNS server which doesn't support AFSDB
[13:47:01] <wiesand> The passage I was referring to is "In order to support eventual migration of DNS for central.org <http://central.org/> and openafs.org <http://openafs.org/> off of CMU infrastructure"…
[13:48:09] <wiesand> But ok, it's only about DNS, not the grand.central.org cell, the mailing lists or RT.
[13:48:41] <mvita> I read that as referring only to where the DNS zone records are hosted
[13:49:05] <wiesand> I guess you're right, thanks.
[13:49:39] <wiesand> I have no further topics for today. Anyone?
[13:50:49] <mvita> nothing here - except that the Linux dailies are still working for master
[13:51:03] <mvita> 5.1-rc1 due out on Sunday
[13:51:29] <wiesand> let's cross fingers
[13:52:32] <mvita> move to adjourn?
[13:52:55] <meffie> ok, thanks.
[13:53:05] <wiesand> Yes, let's adjourn (and grant you a 7 minutes break before your next meeting). Thanks a lot!
[13:53:28] wiesand leaves the room
[13:53:33] <mvita> Thank you, Stephan.  We very much appreciate your fine work.  Have a good weekend
[13:53:42] <mvita> … and I just missed him.
