[12:57:00] wiesand joins the room
[12:57:40] <meffie> good afternoon wiesand
[12:58:13] <wiesand> good morning mike
[12:58:39] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Hi from the IAB Privacy and Security Program breakfast meeting
[12:58:51] <wiesand> I received a strange message in the irc room on freenode: (notice) *** Notice -- TS for ##openafs-release-team <irc://irc.freenode.net:6667/#%23openafs-release-team> changed from 1532091423 to 1513023395
[12:59:13] <wiesand> Hi Ben
[13:00:17] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Hmm, I guess I'm not idling in ##openafs-release-team so I shouldn't
expect to have seen such a thing
[13:01:16] <wiesand> I'm afraid I have no news again today.
[13:01:48] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I also have no news today, though I am happy to have seen the flurry
of activity in gerrit yesterday.
[13:02:12] <wiesand> more new stuff piling up though….
[13:02:24] <meffie> seems "TS" stands for timestamps in that context?
[13:02:34] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> That would be my guess (re TS)
[13:03:01] <meffie> oh, yes, those are unix epoch times.
[13:03:35] <meffie> mostly harmless i would guess.
[13:03:50] <wiesand> hmm, so it changed from ~now to last December?!
[13:04:47] <meffie> maybe that was when the channel was created?
[13:04:48] mvita joins the room
[13:05:08] <mvita> present
[13:05:17] <wiesand> Hello Mark
[13:05:48] <wiesand> nothing new in RT either
[13:06:09] <wiesand> Any Linux-next news?
[13:06:13] <meffie> (yeah, TS is the channel creation time)
[13:06:17] <mvita> nada
[13:06:37] <mvita> the fix we need is still not in linux-next as of yesterday
[13:06:45] <wiesand> :-(
[13:06:51] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> On recent-linux news we all saw the kafs report, which was pretty
interesting to see
[13:06:53] <mvita> so I think some more cage rattling is in order
[13:07:10] <wiesand> ben: right
[13:07:24] <wiesand> I'm going to try this out
[13:07:35] <mvita> Andrew checked Joe's timestamp patch and believes it is complete
[13:07:45] <mvita> so I'm feeling better about that
[13:07:54] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> cool
[13:07:59] <meffie> yay
[13:08:20] <wiesand> I remember some warnings by Jeffrey that the kafs client will kill openafs servers…
[13:09:03] <wiesand> That could become a real problem now that there's a "1,2,3" recipe for getting one going
[13:09:14] <meffie> andrew had been looking into that and asked david h for more info about that.
[13:09:17] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> My understanding was that David changed kafs to be less unfriendly,
but I don't have hard dat
[13:09:27] <mvita> I think I remember that… it was a problem in an earlier kafs client that has been fixed, if I'm thinking of the same thing
[13:09:55] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I think it's probably accurately described as a problem in openafs
that the kafs client was exposing, as opposed to a problem in the kafs
client
[13:09:55] <mvita> it manifested as killing an auristor server? my memory is sketchy on this
[13:10:24] <mvita> ben, do you know the details?
[13:10:37] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> not offhand; my brain has been focusing on IETF this week
[13:12:10] <wiesand> I think there was some incident like that - but long *after* the warning…
[13:12:48] <wiesand> I guess I'll find out… let's hope it only kills fileservers…
[13:13:00] <meffie> yeah, let me dig up the rt number. as far as we know, we are ok.
[13:15:03] <meffie> 133446
[13:15:11] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I would say "merely broken as opposed to catastrophically exposed"
[13:15:50] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> But maybe I misremember
[13:17:18] <mvita> I found my notes from Dhowells but there's a lot of stuff here
[13:19:26] <wiesand> ok, I was thinking of CVE-2017-17432, but that was fixed in 1.6.22
[13:19:35] <meffie> ah, ok.
[13:20:38] <wiesand> So what's blocking 1.8.1? (besides [lack of] review of 13247)
[13:21:31] <wiesand> (and Mike's -1 on 13153)
[13:21:50] <mvita> oh, sorry Steohan, we missed that one yesterday
[13:21:57] <mvita> Stephan
[13:22:04] <mvita> I can't type this morning
[13:22:04] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I don't think 13153 was a 1.8.1 candidate anymore
[13:22:48] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Did people have thoughts about whether 13191 was appropriate to add to
1.8.1 at this stage?
[13:22:57] <mvita> 13247 +1
[13:23:28] meffie stars 13247
[13:24:28] <meffie> (to know what to review :)
[13:25:29] <wiesand> it's a one-line fix
[13:25:34] <mvita> 13191 should be good for 1.8.1
[13:27:08] <wiesand> 13246 looks like a candidate too
[13:27:41] <mvita> yes indeed
[13:32:15] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Yeah, I think that was planned for 1.8.1, now that you mention it
[13:38:11] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Did we have other topics for today?
[13:38:55] <mvita> re: the LInux GPL fix we are waiting for
[13:39:32] <mvita> Does anyone have any thoughts on how to move things along and get the patch into mainline?
[13:40:22] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Unfortunately, I don't have much experience there
[13:40:43] <mvita> here is the latest version of the series: marc.info/?l=linux-mm&m=153128668008585&w=2 <https://marc.info/?l=linux-mm&m=153128668008585&w=2>
[13:41:25] <mvita> submitted for inclusion in linux-next and provisionally accepted by Andrew Morton for iinux-next
[13:41:33] <mvita> but not yet merged
[13:41:57] <mvita> that was on July 11
[13:42:20] <mvita> this is the one we need: 8/8 mm: Fix exports that inadvertently make put_page() EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL
[13:45:03] <mvita> that's all I have
[13:45:05] <meffie> my guess is someone needs to ping dan williams to see if we can ask andrew to take the fix.
[13:45:34] <meffie> or dan can resend for the new rc
[13:46:47] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> makes sense
[13:47:46] <meffie> good news is, it's obviously a regression
[13:47:58] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> definitely
[13:48:47] <mvita> Joe has pinged Dan in the past, but Joe is working on other things at present
[13:48:58] <mvita> I can sign up for linux-mm and reping
[13:49:11] <wiesand> thanks
[13:50:17] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> yes, thanks
[13:53:36] <wiesand> Looks like we're "finished"?
[13:53:43] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> probably?
[13:53:51] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> (I am rather distracted by this other meeting I'm in)
[13:53:53] <mvita> aye
[13:54:18] <wiesand> Let's adjourn then. Thanks everyone (especially for the reviews)!
[13:54:18] <mvita> <I'm subscribed to linux—mm firehose in 3.2.1….>
[13:54:19] <meffie> thanks all, notes to be posted shortly
[13:54:40] <wiesand> thanks for those too!
[13:54:51] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> thanks everybody!
