[12:57:32] wiesand joins the room
[12:59:08] <meffie> good afternoon wiesand
[12:59:31] <mvita> hello, Mike
[12:59:57] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> greetings
[13:00:22] <wiesand> Hello release team hard core!
[13:01:14] <meffie> heh
[13:02:17] <wiesand> Pretending I hadn't screwed up the meeting start time in my mail yesterday: shall we unleash 1.6.22.3?
[13:03:15] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> seems like a plan
[13:03:37] <mvita> release the hounds
[13:03:45] <wiesand> Ben, good point regarding that PGP comment, but I think I'll leave it as is once more
[13:04:01] <wiesand> Ok, Ben, please push the tag
[13:04:29] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> done
[13:05:01] <wiesand> releasing the volume
[13:06:14] <wiesand> any thoughts on gerrit 13020?
[13:06:24] <mvita> looking
[13:07:05] <wiesand> we should probably also pull in Mark's 13015 and 13016 now?
[13:07:54] <mvita> typo in the commit
[13:08:06] <mvita> a new window or frame.
[13:08:10] <mvita> s/frame/tab
[13:08:19] <mvita> I'll fix it
[13:08:35] <mvita> or maybe no one cares
[13:09:13] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> It may not be worth the effort, though I doubt anyone would complain
if you fixed it.
[13:10:51] <wiesand> I think I'll proceed now and merge Marks' later
[13:11:29] <mvita> done
[13:12:36] <wiesand> web change going live now
[13:12:37] <mvita> <that thing when gerrit says "Not current" after a browser refresh>
[13:12:37] <meffie> +1
[13:12:42] <mvita> <sigh>
[13:13:54] <wiesand> don't despair, I'll get your's up a bit later
[13:13:59] <wiesand> announcement sent
[13:14:15] <meffie> thanks wiesand
[13:14:22] <mvita> yes, thank you!
[13:14:25] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> yay, thanks!
[13:15:17] <wiesand> -announce moderators pestered
[13:19:21] <wiesand> 13015/16 going live now
[13:20:07] <mvita> YAY
[13:20:12] <mvita> it works!
[13:20:17] <wiesand> Web looks fine to me at first glance. Done.
[13:20:55] <wiesand> I haven't prepared for anything else today…
[13:21:13] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I'll take that as "don't ask me about 1.6.23", then :)
[13:21:23] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I don't have a huge amount, either, but let's see..
[13:21:31] <wiesand> er, right ;-)
[13:21:43] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I'm in Paris next week, so expect to miss the meeting by virtue of
being on a plane.
[13:21:53] <wiesand> :-(
[13:22:18] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I discovered a rather embarassing "oops" with the 1.8.0 release ... I
seem to have failed to actually merge the version number changes
commit before tagging.
[13:22:34] <meffie> ?
[13:22:43] <wiesand> oops
[13:22:51] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> It's unclear how significant an issue this would be -- I could make a
'a'-suffixed tag and re-roll tarballs, but if no one is complaining...
[13:23:02] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> And we may want to roll a 1.8.1 pretty soon anyways.
[13:23:37] <wiesand> re-rolling tarballs under a new tag would be worse IMO
[13:23:45] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Since apparently the Solaris stuff that we thought was just cosmetic
can still cause issues, and there have been some other changes that
landed on master and would be good to get in a release.
[13:23:50] <wiesand> and yes, 1.8.1 isn't that far away
[13:24:36] <wiesand> if it's just Solaris, maybe it should even be 1.8.0.1 and really soon?
[13:24:41] <meffie> the solaris issue karl reported is a really libtool bug
[13:24:54] <wiesand> right, you said that
[13:24:59] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I kind of want to get Jeffrey's abort/serial number changes in as
well.
[13:25:03] <meffie> ok, just wanted to be clear.
[13:25:46] <mvita> Linux 4.17 (when we are ready for next topic)
[13:25:49] <meffie> (the solaris 11.3 buildbot has a patched libtool, with the fix i pointed out on the list)
[13:25:57] <wiesand> NB Mike you wanted to look into the rpm building issue on F27?
[13:26:25] <meffie> yes, i opened a ticket for myself for that. sorry i dont know the answer yet.
[13:26:29] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Let's do F27, then linux 4.17
[13:26:34] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> or F27 is really fast :)
[13:27:23] <wiesand> Are we sure yet we need to do anything about Linux 4.17?
[13:27:33] <mvita> unsure because:
[13:27:34] <mvita> Setting up linux-headers-4.17.0-999 (4.17.0-999.201804192201) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of linux-image-unsigned-4.17.0-999-generic:
linux-image-unsigned-4.17.0-999-generic depends on linux-modules-4.17.0-999-generic; however:
  Package linux-modules-4.17.0-999-generic is not installed.
dpkg: error processing package linux-image-unsigned-4.17.0-999-generic (--install):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
[13:27:50] <mvita> we need another package?
[13:28:20] <mvita> plus, the stuff we downloaded isn't named -rc1
[13:28:33] <mvita> not sure if that matters, maybe they just changed conventions
[13:29:03] <meffie> dont know.
[13:29:06] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Hmm, the '-unsigned' makes me wonder about the weird workflow for the
signed kernel packages (for secure boot), but I think the dependency
goes the other way and it should not be responsible for what you are
seeing.
[13:31:37] <wiesand> hmm, the latest updates broke my bionic vm :-(
[13:32:51] <meffie> i wonder of we'd have better luck with a newer ubuntu.
[13:33:11] <mvita> oh, about the names - this was the daily build, not the rc build, so that's all good
[13:33:13] <meffie> i should create one anyway.
[13:33:41] <wiesand> which ubuntu is it using now?
[13:34:29] <meffie> 16.04 iirc
[13:34:47] <mvita> the rc-builder succeeded for -rc1, so we are good so far and the daily builder is just having some indigestion
[13:34:56] <wiesand> That's alright IMO. I'd stick with the LTS releases
[13:35:22] <meffie> ok, thanks, one less thing to worry about.
[13:36:20] <wiesand> In any case, the existence of that 1_6_22-branch makes things pretty comfortable for 1.6.x
[13:36:53] <meffie> ok, great.
[13:38:29] <meffie> btw, the new debian 9 builder has been running without problems since april 13. any objections promoting it to a gerrit builder?
[13:38:53] <wiesand> no
[13:40:48] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> go for it
[13:41:46] <meffie> done
[13:41:55] <wiesand> 12998/12999 are already marke +2, maybe they could be merged?
[13:42:16] <wiesand> or are you waiting for a resolution of the F27 rpmbuild issue?
[13:43:56] <wiesand> My plan for next week: 1) SL packaging 2) pull up the latest changes from 1.8 to 1.6  3) try to make progress on 1.6.23pre1
[13:44:42] <wiesand> *maybe* build an F27 container and look into the rpm thing
[13:45:12] <wiesand> But that's what I can realistically get done in the next week
[13:45:38] <meffie> i'll try to make progress on the f27 debuginfo thing.
[13:46:12] <meffie> (it's easy to reproduce, just need to investigate.)
[13:46:36] <mvita> I'll fix any problems with Linux 4.17-rc1   ;-)
[13:46:56] <wiesand> smart move ;-)
[13:47:10] <meffie> with linux, or the openafs.org code :)
[13:47:59] <wiesand> I have lost track a bit of what's urgent to get into master or from master into 1.8 (though Ben mentioned a few)
[13:48:50] <wiesand> So more homework. Hopefully next week won't be quite as bad as this one.
[13:50:06] <wiesand> And once I have a grip on that, we should probably discuss when I'll take on responsibility for the 1.8 branch?
[13:50:44] <wiesand> ~ in a fortnight?
[13:51:20] <meffie> wiesand: are you or anyone from desy coming to hepix next month?
[13:53:08] <wiesand> Not me, but there will be DESY participants. At least one colleague from my site will come, but … let's say he's not so familiar with AFS…
[13:53:32] <meffie> ok
[13:54:50] <wiesand> Anything else to discuss today?
[13:55:05] <meffie> i have nothing else. thank you.
[13:55:16] <mvita> nothing from me
[13:56:02] <wiesand> ah, one more thing...
[13:56:06] <meffie> yes?
[13:56:17] <wiesand> using snprintf on the 1.6 branch - is that safe?
[13:56:29] <meffie> i think so.
[13:56:46] <meffie> we have a lot of snprintf there.
[13:57:58] <wiesand> ok I'll just merge 12975 then. After all it will debut in a prerelease, and if it's a problem it will show up at build time.
[13:58:26] <meffie> ok, thanks.
[13:58:32] <wiesand> So, let's adjourn. Thanks a lot everyone!
[13:59:02] wiesand leaves the room
[13:59:06] <mvita> so long
[14:29:09] meffie leaves the room
[19:23:48] meffie joins the room
