[12:56:55] wiesand joins the room
[12:59:49] <meffie> good morning
[13:00:13] <wiesand> Hi
[13:00:31] <Marcio Barbosa> hello
[13:01:20] <wiesand> Mike: Thanks for the autoconf backport
[13:02:49] <meffie> no problem. sorry, i had thought i had already done the backport. i must have been thinking of the 1.8.x one.
[13:03:24] <meffie> i would have done it sooner if i would have remembered.
[13:03:44] <wiesand> no problem
[13:04:10] <wiesand> besides those, there are a few more in the queue needing review...
[13:04:13] <wiesand> https://gerrit.openafs.org/#/q/status:open+project:openafs+branch:openafs-stable-1_6_x
[13:04:18] <meffie> does this conflict with other changes for 1.6.23? do i need to rebase it ?
[13:05:28] <wiesand> I haven't checked in detail yet, but I think there's a good chance we don't need to rebase anything
[13:05:47] <meffie> ok
[13:07:24] <meffie> we could create a topic branch called something like "1.6.23" and have all of these on that branch and make that a gerrit topic.
[13:07:50] <meffie> then we could just checkout the top one to get the branch
[13:08:30] <wiesand> just checked: there's a clash with "make 1.6.23pre1", but I'll rather rebase that
[13:08:51] <meffie> ok, makes sense.
[13:09:38] <meffie> that path conflict should be ok. it's just because i renamed one line in configure.ac if i recall.
[13:10:23] <wiesand> No, that's trivial to rebase
[13:10:51] <meffie> yes, i meant the rebase will be trivial.
[13:10:57] <wiesand> I'll take care. The version strings change typically is the last one I merge anyway
[13:11:38] <meffie> ok, thank you.
[13:11:58] <wiesand> I'm not sure of the technical implications of that topic branch idea…
[13:12:30] <wiesand> Getting things merged is more straightforward I think
[13:12:48] <wiesand> All it takes is review review review…
[13:12:49] <meffie> it works because non of them have a topic at the moment.
[13:13:13] <meffie> and is shows which ones need to be reviewed and checked out for testing.
[13:13:43] <meffie> for people that need to test and review
[13:14:09] <wiesand> I can change the topic of existing changes in the gerrit gui. If you think it helps I can do that for all foreseen for 1.6.23pre1
[13:14:39] <meffie> yes, even that would be a big help
[13:15:42] <meffie> it is much easier to manage things if they have some topic in gerrit
[13:16:40] <wiesand> But right now it's simple enough without that: everything in the list of open changes for 1.6.x with an "Updated" date since mid February is for 1.6.23pre1
[13:17:05] <meffie> for example, i use ssh queries to list gerrits by topic
[13:17:16] <wiesand> Ok, I'll do it
[13:17:30] <meffie> doning that by branch and then hand editing the output makes for more work.
[13:17:38] <meffie> s/doning/doing/
[13:18:40] <meffie> Thank You!!
[13:19:33] <wiesand> 12977 should take care of Andre'w objections to 12818
[13:20:11] <wiesand> Of course it needs to merged on master and 1.8 first
[13:21:05] <wiesand> There's also a few more I need to pull up yet. I hope to get a few done later today (FBSD, for example)
[13:21:13] <meffie> yes, thank you for figuring out the black magic
[13:22:29] <wiesand> So, there's slow but steady progress…
[13:22:40] <meffie> excellent.
[13:23:25] <wiesand> There are two new tickets in RT
[13:24:02] <wiesand> One is about sonames on FBSD and should no longer be an issue with 1.8.
[13:24:34] <wiesand> I think we should drop this one for 1.6
[13:25:02] <wiesand> The other one is about supporting little endian PPC64 linux
[13:25:52] <wiesand> I'm not sure what it would take to solve. But I'm leaning towards leaving that to 1.8 too.
[13:26:13] <meffie> looking...
[13:29:51] <meffie> i believe yadav told me he had some patches for ppc64 support. yes, that sounds like that could be in 1.8.x
[13:30:35] <meffie> i'll search/ask him.
[13:31:00] <wiesand> Thanks
[13:31:04] <meffie> nice to see interest in new platforms.
[13:31:15] <wiesand> agreed
[13:33:05] <meffie> is it time for buildbot news?
[13:33:15] <wiesand> Yes :)
[13:33:36] <meffie> ok.
[13:34:55] <meffie> 1. i made separate lists for the semidaily builders for master and 1.8.x. i removed the arm64 builder from the 1.8.x branch for now, since we dont have the arm64 patches yet and the builder just fails every time until we do.
[13:35:18] <wiesand> ok
[13:35:27] <meffie> 2. new builders for macos 10.12 and 10.13 are on the way.
[13:36:00] <meffie> (thanks to Marcio)
[13:36:08] <meffie> that's all i have for now.
[13:36:54] <wiesand> Good news, thanks
[13:38:03] <wiesand> Is there more to discuss today? (w/o Ben, I guess there isn't…)
[13:39:13] <meffie> i dont think so. most of the stuff taking place on master is for post-1.8.0. marcio pushed some patches to fix a configure warning error (missing missing script), but that is not urgent.
[13:40:02] <wiesand> Yes, I saw those. No need to scramble.
[13:40:11] <meffie> the "ubik_perf" topic can be deferred to post-1.6.23.
[13:40:36] <meffie> those would be useful on 1.6.x to improve the vlserver performance
[13:41:54] <wiesand> Maybe, but it's more ubik churn, and the 1.6 series should really cool down eventually one 1.8.0 is released
[13:42:32] <meffie> yes, true.
[13:42:34] <wiesand> We should fix bugs for at least another year or so, but performance improvements are a different thing
[13:43:19] <wiesand> So at the very least, I wouldn't want to block 1.6.23 on those
[13:43:21] <meffie> well, these are a type of bug, to be honest.
[13:43:50] <meffie> agreed, they should not block 1.6.23
[13:44:19] <meffie> but yes, they should be in 1.8.x first
[13:44:34] <wiesand> right
[13:44:54] <wiesand> Looks like we're finished for today?
[13:45:22] <meffie> yes
[13:45:33] <meffie> have a happy holiday
[13:45:45] <wiesand> Let's adjourn then. Thanks a lot! Happoy holiday!
