[12:09:44] Marcio Barbosa joins the room
[13:57:00] wiesand joins the room
[14:02:26] <wiesand> Hi. Is anyone actually heres?
[14:02:30] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Greetings.
[14:02:36] meffie joins the room
[14:02:48] <meffie> good morning
[14:03:21] <wiesand> Hello Mike
[14:03:28] <wiesand> Hello Ben
[14:04:43] <wiesand> I saw a lot of review activity on the 1.6 branch this week. Thanks.
[14:05:58] <wiesand> Chances are we can release 1.6.22.2 early next week (Monday, if I can make it), and it looks like we're very close to a 1.6.23pre1 the same week.
[14:06:39] <meffie> great news!
[14:06:57] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Indeed!
[14:07:17] <wiesand> And that's about what I have on the 1.6 agenda today :)
[14:08:02] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I was a slacker this week and have little progress to report.
[14:08:44] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I am (hopefully) basically done with the work needed for debian to cope
with the other changes in the kernel that brought meltdown/spectre
remediation, though.
[14:10:13] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I guess I should check the jabber logs from last week to remember what
we said would be in 1.8.0pre5
[14:10:13] <wiesand> Are you planning to leave this "downstream", or should it be included in openafs?
[14:10:44] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Oh, this is just for the 1.6.1 and 1.6.9 versions in oldstable and
oldoldstable; the fix is just to cherry-pick some patches from
openafs-stable-1_6_x
[14:10:50] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> (and resolve some mostly trivial conflicts)
[14:11:25] <wiesand> ah, thanks
[14:12:09] <meffie> thanks ben
[14:12:27] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> [14:53:31] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> So, staged for pre5 we've
got those srpm build fixes, configure
refactor, Andrew's deadlock avoidance in check_Dentry_race (12868),
and I guess the ubik thing (12716)
[14:13:13] <meffie> i just got another report on 1.8.0pre4, something about dkms failure on rhel6 (fails to build the kmod). i need to investigate.
[14:13:26] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Oh, that's interesting.
[14:14:00] <meffie> it is?
[14:14:11] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> So, someone(TM) should pull up the check_dentry_race thing and 12716
since the others of those are already staged in gerrit.
[14:14:27] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> I thought pre4 had all known linux version compat in it
[14:14:33] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> and rhel6 is old...
[14:15:09] <wiesand> what about 12640?
[14:15:36] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> waiting for buildbot after rebase
[14:15:48] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> But yeah, I guess that can get pulled up, too.
[14:15:52] <wiesand> I mean is it for pre5 / pre1?
[14:16:01] <wiesand> I can do the pullups
[14:16:06] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Thanks!
[14:17:32] <meffie> Marcio may already have 1.6.x versions of those
[14:18:00] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> seems likely, yeah
[14:18:02] <wiesand> I think Ben was talking about the 1.8 pullups (1st step)
[14:18:13] <meffie> ah, ok.
[14:18:17] <wiesand> Thos should be simple enough for me to do
[14:18:29] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Yeah, there is minimal divergence from 1.8 and master, yet
[14:18:51] <wiesand> 1.6 is a different story then. I'll look at what it takes.
[14:19:19] <wiesand> But some of the ubik stuff really looks _quite_ a bit different on 1.6…
[14:21:06] <Marcio Barbosa> right. 1.6 is not pthread safe. as a result, we do not have to deal with the locks.
[14:22:08] <wiesand> I'll appreciate your help then.
[14:22:57] <Marcio Barbosa> okay
[14:22:59] <wiesand> But let the dust settle a bit first. I think we'll need some rebases anyway, no point in adding more yet.
[14:23:55] <wiesand> Is there more to discuss today?
[14:24:05] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> one minor thing
[14:24:20] <wiesand> all ears
[14:24:27] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Since I was irresponsible this week, are there things that are pending
in gerrit for master that are high-ish priority to get looked at?
[14:24:43] <meffie> i dont think so.
[14:25:23] <wiesand> unless you'd like to rush some solaris or fbsd stuff into 1.6.22.2
[14:25:42] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Okay.
I feel a little bad for Marcio since we're making him do so many
revisions to this ctf-tools thing (I have some more comments that I'm
adding shortly).
[14:26:25] <meffie> i think 12247 should be ready for master then 1.8/1.6
[14:26:27] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> The fbsd stuff could be nice, but if it doesn't happen it's my fault.
[14:27:08] <meffie> 12247 fixes a process deadlock on solaris
[14:27:38] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Okay, I think I had that open to look at in my ever-growing set of
browser tabs
[14:29:25] <wiesand> Anything else between me and my weekend? ;-)
[14:29:32] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Go go go!
[14:30:03] <meffie> yes, have a great weekend
[14:30:17] <wiesand> Thanks a lot everyone!
[14:30:25] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Yes, thanks!
[14:30:30] wiesand leaves the room
[14:30:55] <meffie> btw, the vos zap stuff is not too urgent in my opinion. i dont think those should block 1.8.0
[14:31:22] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Good to know, thanks.
[14:31:41] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> (12640 landed)
[14:31:51] <meffie> and i should improve my commit messages for some of them
[14:39:49] <meffie> also, i have some patches to squelch some of the massive number of warnings we get under solaris studio (fallout from working on the solaris deadlock patches)
[14:40:39] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Ah.  Probably worth taking those at some point, too.
[14:40:45] <meffie> i figured those are not urgent, but i'll push then to gerrit if you want to see them.
[14:42:25] <meffie> that's all i got today.
[14:45:23] <kaduk@jabber.openafs.org/barnowl> Okay, thanks.  And have a good weekend, even if there's still a day's
work between you and it :)
