[14:58:13] wiesand joins the room
[15:00:04] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Greetings
[15:00:11] <mvita> Salutations.
[15:00:39] <wiesand> Hi
[15:01:09] <meffie> greetings
[15:01:56] <wiesand> Looks like we're complete?
[15:02:03] <wiesand> NB what happened to Joe?
[15:03:20] <mvita> he's a contractor - he's working on other contracts at the moment
[15:03:28] <meffie> joe has been busy with non-afs projects, in the mean time damien has been helping with the linux integration. damien is based in europe
[15:04:30] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Damien (rightly) notes that we should get 12729 in soon -- mvita, did
you want to look at ps2 (or should I not wait for you)?
[15:04:42] <mvita> looking
[15:05:49] <meffie> woah the spec file fixes have been merged! thanks ben.
[15:06:02] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> you're welcome!
[15:06:20] <meffie> heh.
[15:06:42] <meffie> (i hate spec files :)
[15:07:06] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> (I would, too, if I had to be backward compatible to RHEL-<mumble>
rpm(1))
[15:08:00] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Stephan, do you have a 1.6 agenda?
[15:09:29] wiesand leaves the room
[15:10:08] <meffie> you scared him away
[15:11:01] wiesand joins the room
[15:11:28] <wiesand> Frankly, not at this time.
[15:12:00] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Nothing wrong with that!
[15:12:11] <wiesand> I'm back on duty the 3rd day, and not on top of things yet.
[15:12:23] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> I know the feeling...
[15:13:34] <meffie> i believe marcio was planning on submitting the "ubik-fix-write-after-recovery" patches for 1.6.x (they were merged on master)
[15:13:58] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Weren't there two of them?  I thought I only merged one so far.
[15:14:12] <wiesand> And there seem to be no really urgent 1.6 topics. The next release may even be another dot-dot-dot one just to cope with Linux 4.14. But I'll make up my mind before next week's meeting.
[15:14:14] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> (i.e., 12716 is still pending)
[15:15:36] <wiesand> ok it will probably be a 1.6.21.2
[15:16:16] <wiesand> But do speak up if you don't like the idea!
[15:16:48] <wiesand> So, on to master/1.8.x?
[15:17:06] <meffie> also, we should get a release out with the solaris deadlock fix mark submitted.
[15:17:33] <meffie> since the solaris users which do not patch continue to hit that deadlock
[15:17:38] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Did that one get merged yet; I forget.
[15:17:39] <mvita> I think Andrew had some review comments on those that should be addressed first
[15:18:05] <mvita> I don't remember - I'm in Damiens patch ATM
[15:18:21] <wiesand> remind me of the gerrit topic?
[15:18:49] <meffie> i believe the most important one is 12247
[15:19:11] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> topic:solaris-deadlock, then
[15:19:13] <meffie> the topic is solaris-deadlock
[15:19:18] <wiesand> topic is "solaris-deadlock" I think
[15:19:31] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Is there an echo in here?
[15:19:52] <meffie> mark gets upset with me if i say anything disparaging about solaris
[15:20:28] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Solaris is quite robust ... too bad that Oracle gutted its
development.
[15:20:43] <wiesand> quite a few −1s on the solaris-deadlock changes - including 12247
[15:20:43] <meffie> yes
[15:20:53] <mvita> yes, I need to get back to those.
[15:21:11] <mvita> Meffie will tell me when that can happen ;-)
[15:21:46] <meffie> ha!
[15:22:16] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> I am imagining any number of possible amusing retorts, there.  But
probably the good ones are happening out of band :)
[15:22:16] <wiesand> yes, it's a major pity that solaris ended up with oracle, even from a "linux guy"'s point of view
[15:22:23] <meffie> maybe we should not care about wierd platforms
[15:22:33] <meffie> yes, it is a pity.
[15:22:57] <meffie> ibm dropped the ball imho
[15:23:10] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Anyway, 1.8.
I did get to look a little at the rxevent-t thing, and it sure looks
like an event that claims to have been cancelled is firing, which is
worrisome.
[15:23:27] <meffie> oh. i assumed the test was bogus.
[15:23:44] <meffie> maybe i hoped the test was bogus.
[15:24:03] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Given the nature of the tweaks I made to make the segfault more
likely, it could be a race condition of some sort in the event
implementation.
I also hoped the test was bogus, and it's still possible that that's
the case -- I don't have conclusive results yet.
[15:24:21] <mvita> okay 12792 reviewed
[15:24:30] <meffie> thanks!
[15:24:54] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Thanks!
[15:25:40] <meffie> hopefully the dust is settling for 4.14 now.
[15:26:18] <mvita> Linus said -rc3 had a lot more new stuff than would be expected at this stage - stuff that should have been in -rc1
[15:26:33] <mvita> so I'm keeping my eyes open after Damien's stuff gets merged
[15:27:13] <wiesand> Thanks Mark
[15:28:59] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> So, more investigation still needed on rxevent-t
[15:29:09] <meffie> ok.
[15:29:25] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> I assume no catastrophes from the sites running 1.8.0pre2?
[15:29:39] <meffie> not yet
[15:29:50] <wiesand> Sounds like that's the most important and urgent issue to investiaget at this time.
[15:29:55] <meffie> we are just running a fileserver, no db's yet.
[15:30:02] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> wiesand: I think so.
[15:30:45] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Then issue a pre3, let it bake a couple weeks in debian
experimental/etc., and it might be time to put it in debian unstable
[15:31:03] <meffie> cool.
[15:31:11] <wiesand> Sounds like a plan
[15:31:59] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Moving on to master...
I haven't made any movement on rxgk or IPv6.  Anyone else?
[15:32:26] <mvita> not me
[15:32:57] <meffie> not yet, just did the spec file fixes. andrew will be reviewing rxgk
[15:32:59] <mvita> <rattle his desk chains>
[15:33:27] <mvita> s/rattle/rattles/
[15:34:08] <wiesand> ot it now ;-)
[15:34:19] <wiesand> got
[15:35:31] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Hmm.  Are we all done for today, then?
[15:35:46] <wiesand> I'm afraid so
[15:35:53] <mvita> parting is such sweet sorrow
[15:36:29] <meffie> oh, i should mention macos.
[15:36:29] <wiesand> I'll try to prepare for a much more 1.6.x-centric meeting next week.
[15:36:45] <wiesand> mike: high sierra?
[15:36:52] <wiesand> (apfs?)
[15:36:52] <mvita> ugh
[15:37:07] <mvita> Marcio's working on it
[15:37:16] <meffie> marcio has made progress, we should have packages to test
[15:37:28] <meffie> for high sierra
[15:37:51] <meffie> so far, just minor build fixes are done.
[15:37:54] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> good to know, thanks
[15:38:05] <wiesand> Would fit nicely with a 1.6.21.2
[15:38:36] <wiesand> (just like solaris-deadlock)
[15:38:40] <meffie> he will be pushing the build fixes to gerrit soon i hope, and then we people can start testing
[15:39:00] <wiesand> good one ;-)
[15:40:05] <meffie> thanks, thats all i have
[15:40:31] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Alright.  See you next week!
[15:40:42] <mvita> bye
[15:40:50] <wiesand> Still, it's good to see that several things are underway.
[15:41:13] <wiesand> Let's adjourn now. CU next week, and thanks a lot!
