[13:22:49] meffie joins the room
[15:00:44] <mvita> yo
[15:01:27] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> howdy
[15:02:53] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> I guess we can assume that Stephan has done his part and is enjoying
his well-deserved vacation?
[15:03:20] <meffie> hello
[15:03:55] <meffie> yes, building rpms for 1.6.21.1 and loads of kmods for it.
[15:04:06] wiesand joins the room
[15:04:35] <meffie> http://download.sinenomine.net/openafs/bins/1.6.21.1/rhel7/x86_64/
[15:04:39] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Oh, hi stephan!
[15:04:41] <wiesand> Ben: yes, you can assume that.
[15:05:30] <wiesand> There won't be much from my side today.
[15:06:01] <wiesand> Especially because my connection is terrible.
[15:06:27] <wiesand> So, please simply go ahed with your agenda.
[15:07:50] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Ooh, permission to go ahead with my evil agenda of dropping support
for "weird" platforms, kaserver, LWP, updateserver, and more!  Why
thank you! :)
[15:08:14] <meffie> yay!
[15:08:22] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> I mean, um, I sadly did not have time to do anything for 1.8 this
week.  Highest priority is probably still the rx event cancellation
thing.
[15:09:42] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> I guess I have mostly been convinced that we can go ahead with 12723.
[15:09:56] <wiesand> What are the weird platforms? macOS?
[15:10:54] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> AIX/HPUX/IRIX/SUNOS
[15:12:50] <mvita> HEY
[15:12:58] <mvita> get that SUNOS out of there
[15:13:08] <mvita> it's beautiful, not weird
[15:13:13] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Just seeing if you were watching ;)
[15:13:36] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Anyway, since  I did not get to do very much this week, I don't really
have many updates.  Anyone else have updates?
[15:14:02] <meffie> we put 1.8.0pre2 on a small but production fileserver
[15:14:21] <meffie> and trying to get more to do the same (or at least pilot)
[15:14:46] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Cool!
[15:15:09] <wiesand> Any news on the Linux 4.14 patches?
[15:15:10] <mvita> stuff in flight for linux 4.14, sorry, I don't have details on progress
[15:15:23] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> I saw some __vfs_read stuff go by but haven't looked at it yet
[15:15:28] <mvita> I'm not working on it this time
[15:16:38] <wiesand> Any thoughts on APFS?
[15:16:42] <meffie> i pushed what i have. it does build and work, but the first patch is kind of odd, because we are checking the "wrong" conditional
[15:16:56] <mvita> APFS is only a concern if your boot drive is SSD
[15:17:09] <mvita> and your AFS cache is on your boot drive
[15:17:24] <mvita> (for now)
[15:17:46] <mvita> APFS support will probably continue to expand in future releases of OS X
[15:19:37] <meffie> hopefully we can work out any APFS issues before 1.6.22
[15:20:22] <wiesand> oh, good
[15:21:28] <wiesand> mark: thanks for this info
[15:21:53] <wiesand> alas, both conditions are very likely to be true for most macbooks used by our users
[15:22:18] <mvita> my info is from very limited reading, I hope to learn more soon
[15:24:26] wiesand joins the room
[15:24:52] <mvita> if the SSD is partitioned, only the boot partition is converted to APFS during High Sierra upgrade.
[15:25:04] <mvita> so the AFS cache could go on a different partition
[15:25:39] <mvita> (again, this is my current understanding, take it with a grain of salt)
[15:25:51] wiesand leaves the room
[15:25:54] <mvita> I haven't actually tried it.
[15:27:29] <mvita> and if the "SSD" in questions is actually a Fusion Drive (spinning + ssd), then that will NOT be converted to APFS at all.
[15:31:02] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> I guess we should transition to master topics, if any -- I assume that
Mike was so swamped that he didn't get a chance to pull up the IPv6
stuff again.  And I don't remember any rxgk reviews going by, so maybe
we're at "no change" on that front.
[15:31:33] <meffie> andrew will have some time starting next week to review the rxgk patches in gerrit
[15:32:14] <meffie> yeah, i've not pulled up changes yet. not for lack of wanting :)
[15:35:58] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Good news re: andrew
and also not for lack of wanting :)
[15:36:44] <meffie> heh. that and a $3.50 will get you a cup of coffee at starbucks
[15:37:12] <meffie> any rate, yes, reviews on the way.
[15:37:22] <mvita> itym $4.60
[15:38:26] <meffie> another reason to avoid starbucks
[15:38:30] wiesand joins the room
[15:39:50] <meffie> ben, so far, the only issue i've seen on 1.8.0pre2 was a problem building centos 6 rpms (centos 7 works ok). maybe i have more openafs.spec.in work to do.
[15:39:57] wiesand leaves the room
[15:40:22] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Huh.  Anything memorable/notable from the build failure?
[15:40:24] <meffie> the build bug is related to the deprecated kauth stuff
[15:40:33] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Ah.
[15:41:03] <meffie> we dont build some things (klog), and rpmbuild is cranky because they are missing
[15:41:22] <meffie> i'll take a closer look.
[15:42:10] <meffie> that's all i got for 1.8.x
[15:42:12] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> *nods*
[15:42:38] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Shall we adjourn, then?
[15:42:47] <meffie> second
[15:43:52] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> Thanks everyone!
[15:44:29] <mvita> bye
[15:44:47] <wiesand> bye

[15:45:34] meffie leaves the room

[17:43:41] meffie leaves the room
[18:09:23] meffie joins the room
[20:51:18] <meffie> fyi, the rpm build error for 1.8.0pre2 i mentioned today on rhel6 is avoided by adding '--with kauth' to the rpmbuild command line options.
[20:51:43] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl772461F2> yay
[20:52:56] <meffie> seems the ancient rpmbuild on rhel6 does not honor the %exclude directives. maybe in need more conditionals. :(
[20:53:12] <meffie> s/in need/i need/
