[15:00:59] <wiesand> Good morning. Anyone actually presnt?
[15:01:01] <meffie> good morning/evening
[15:01:15] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> I am present.
[15:01:30] <wiesand> Hi.
[15:01:55] <mvita> present
[15:02:12] <wiesand> Mike: it's a pity that Ben turned down the "vols in /proc" change. Nice feature.
[15:02:28] <wiesand> But Ben: I understand, and I think you're right.
[15:02:32] <meffie> oh, it's just for debugging, it should not block 1.8.0
[15:02:51] <wiesand> Hi Mark. Hope you had a good vacation
[15:03:00] <mvita> it was nice, thanks
[15:03:04] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> I mean, I think we are quite close to branching 1.8, at which point we
can open this stuff up again potentially.
[15:03:30] <meffie> excellent. i need to refresh the NEWS file since 1.8.0pre1
[15:04:20] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> But we should let Stephan finish any 1.6 topics before we get too far
into that :)
[15:04:21] <wiesand> Branching 1.8 sounds promising
[15:04:32] <wiesand> Which 1.6 topics?
[15:04:37] <wiesand> Oh, right...
[15:04:57] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> I merged the rpmbuild fixes just a couple minutes ago, not sure if
the mail got to you yet.
[15:05:07] <wiesand> the buildbot failures for linux-daily: 4.13 fallout?
[15:05:09] <meffie> woot
[15:06:16] <meffie> there was a buildbot failure, but i think it was "pilot" error on the box running the kvm's. i restarted it and it worked.
[15:06:22] <wiesand> IOW: ANy Linux News?
[15:06:52] <wiesand> And I think that's all I have on 1.6.x today.
[15:07:00] <meffie> linux-daily and linux-rc worked on the last cycle
[15:08:17] <wiesand> ok I must have missed that - this week is a very busy one...
[15:09:17] <wiesand> So we're good with 4.13-rc1?
[15:10:02] <mvita> so far so good
[15:11:08] <wiesand> Great. Let's move on to 1.8.?
[15:11:45] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> Ah, good timing -- I've been typing this up in parallel with the 1.6
stuff.
I think we're still trying to issue a 1.8.0pre2 Real Soon Now(TM).
On my list of things to try to get in are:
ubik fixes (12609, 12613, maybe 12592)
probably 12652 (xserver deadlock)
maybe 12651 (fetchStatus loop)
12638 (d_splice_alias/d_lookup race on old linux)
maybe 12610 (repeated BulkStatus on directories)
[15:12:21] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> But I have this feeling that I might be forgetting something that came
in semi-recently that we also wanted for 1.8.  So, am I missing
anything important?
[15:12:40] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> We'll also want to go back and find the list of "things to do
post-branching" from however long ago and do those.
[15:13:22] jhg joins the room
[15:14:03] <wiesand> It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas again...
[15:14:05] <wiesand> SCNR
[15:14:48] <meffie> you'll want 12653 in 1.8.0pre2
[15:15:06] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> Ah, right, I knew I was missing something --thanks!
[15:15:27] <meffie> thanks!
[15:15:46] <meffie> otherwise, i'll have to look / review.
[15:15:59] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> Also, while we're all here, does anyone know whether we need to DBHOLD
around the ubik_epochTime updates in 12609 as I commented earlier this
morning?
[15:16:17] <wiesand> no...
[15:17:09] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> I'll try to get ahold of jhutz, of course.
[15:18:14] <meffie> i'll ping andrew about it.
[15:18:23] <meffie> and marcio too.
[15:18:43] <wiesand> 3x+1
[15:19:56] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> Anyway, does that general 1.8.0 plan seem reasonable to people?
(I.e., if I merge those things this week, are people okay with the
branch appearing before next week?)
[15:20:24] <mvita> yes
[15:21:16] <meffie> yes, thank you
[15:21:20] <wiesand> As a heads up, I'll be on vacation August 21st to September 30th. It's unlikely that I'll be offline/unavailable all this time, but it's possible in theory - and I have no form plans yet.
[15:21:33] <wiesand> Re 1.8 branching: Ben: yes.
[15:21:46] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> Yay!
[15:21:56] <meffie> i'll be out on the 21 for the TSE :)
[15:22:08] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> Any other topics for today?
[15:22:25] <wiesand> How will we handle the trickling down of changes from master to 1.8. to 1.6?
[15:22:33] <wiesand> Mike: TSE?
[15:22:40] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> total solar eclipse
[15:22:55] <meffie> yes, ben are you going to the TSE?
[15:22:57] <wiesand> ah… not here...
[15:23:19] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> I think our normal release engineering process would require
master->1.8->1.6 for things not specific to a given older branch.
[15:23:35] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> Though, with 1.8 in a ~release freeze, that kind of puts a crimp on
what is possible for 1.6 :-/
[15:24:11] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> Saint Louis is quite close to full totality already.
I'll be in Chicago on the 21st for a wedding reception, but the
current plan is to head back home the same day and hopefully not have
terrible traffic.
[15:25:19] <wiesand> Yes, it may hamper 1.6. evolution, even regarding serious bug fixes. It's still the right approach IMO though.
[15:25:30] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> *nods*
[15:26:43] <wiesand> Let's just make the best of it.
[15:26:55] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> Sounds like a plan.
[15:27:04] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> Having heard no other topics, shall we adjourn?
[15:27:06] <meffie> agreed
[15:27:09] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> ("Review review review!")
[15:27:18] <meffie> thanks.
[15:27:38] <mvita> reviewing
[15:27:52] <wiesand> Let's adjourn then. Thanks a lot everyone!
[15:28:01] <mvita> see you next week.
[15:28:12] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl42606932> Thanks everyone!
