[12:39:36] Jeffrey Altman joins the room
[13:37:24] meffie joins the room
[13:56:53] <meffie> greetings.
[13:57:31] <mvita> you're early
[13:57:49] <mvita> you must have been stood up for your previous mtg
[13:58:29] stephan.wiesand joins the room
[14:00:17] <stephan.wiesand> Hi
[14:02:46] <stephan.wiesand> Anyone here?
[14:02:59] <mvita> hi
[14:03:32] <meffie> hello
[14:04:37] <stephan.wiesand> I made a first stab at 1.6.19(pre1) release notes in 12395
[14:05:09] <stephan.wiesand> Help with the wording is welcome
[14:05:35] <meffie> thank you.
[14:05:36] <stephan.wiesand> Other than that, not much has happened since last week
[14:06:08] <mvita> I will look when I get a few minutes
[14:06:14] <stephan.wiesand> Thanks
[14:06:27] <mvita> quite busy this week
[14:06:36] <mvita> s/week/month/
[14:06:39] <meffie> i actully spent a ton of time on gerrit 10447
[14:06:42] <mvita> (and so on)
[14:06:48] <stephan.wiesand> I think the one "must have" change is the one marked [TBC] in there - 12389
[14:07:04] <stephan.wiesand> Mark: same here
[14:07:25] <stephan.wiesand> even my assumption to have some more time for openafs during vacation turned out to be wrong :(
[14:08:06] <stephan.wiesand> On 12389: I'm happy that Andrew +1'ed it, but would feel better with some more review.
[14:08:09] <mvita> hmm, I thought I reviewed 12389 - I am mistaken.  I will get to it later today
[14:08:17] <stephan.wiesand> Thanks
[14:09:16] <stephan.wiesand> The other changes under consideration for 1.6.19 are still in need of review too. If it doesn't happen, we should postpone them.
[14:09:57] <stephan.wiesand> And with the 1.8 release (+ some time for stabilization) these issues will resolve themselves...
[14:11:08] <stephan.wiesand> Mike: 12396 is certainly harmless, right?
[14:11:44] <meffie> looking
[14:12:21] <meffie> yes, this only changes 'make check' (or make test)
[14:12:46] <stephan.wiesand> ok
[14:12:53] <stephan.wiesand> Any Linux news?
[14:12:54] <meffie> i am going to add some nightly buildbots that run make check
[14:13:06] <meffie> (the ones i have now are not public yet)
[14:13:28] <mvita> ah, Linux
[14:13:43] <mvita> I am doing a "header build" with v4.8-rc8 right now
[14:13:45] <stephan.wiesand> can't help it...
[14:14:15] <mvita> It is expected to become the v4.8 GA on Sunday
[14:14:25] <stephan.wiesand> right
[14:14:46] <mvita> so far, no code changes required for OpenAFS to _build_
[14:15:01] <stephan.wiesand> If we're still good with that, we can relax a bit about 1.6.19 timing
[14:15:11] <mvita> but we need more testing to see if any changes are required to _run_
[14:15:15] <stephan.wiesand> Though the ubik changes seem worth getting out
[14:15:39] <stephan.wiesand> ah, knowing that we can actually run would help, yes ;-)
[14:17:52] <stephan.wiesand> I think we should issue 1.6.19pre1 when we either know that no changes are reuqured to cope with Linux 4.8, or we have an initial set of changes to do so, or it's clear that we won't have soon.
[14:19:01] <stephan.wiesand> Whatever else is ready can go in, what's not should be postponed to 1.6.20
[14:19:12] <mvita> no build problems
[14:19:23] <stephan.wiesand> So we'd block on the ubik fix and Linux 4.8 only.
[14:19:35] <stephan.wiesand> Mark: great, thanks
[14:20:04] <meffie> ok
[14:20:34] <stephan.wiesand> Anything else to discuss regarding 1.6?
[14:20:51] <mvita> not from me
[14:21:09] <stephan.wiesand> Anything to discuss regarding 1.8?
[14:22:03] <stephan.wiesand> Ben needs help with the release notes at least. I hope to be able to whip up a couple of items, but...
[14:22:56] <stephan.wiesand> Do you know of any sites running the current master? (maybe +fixes)
[14:23:39] <mvita> No I don't
[14:24:16] <stephan.wiesand> Anything else to discuss today?
[14:24:26] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl9C09F4AA> I forgot to mention last week, it might also be nice for someone to
try a heimdal import.
[14:25:02] <stephan.wiesand> Ah, Hello Ben. How would I "try a heimdal import"?
[14:25:14] <mvita> yes, I'd like to know about that too
[14:25:20] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl9C09F4AA> Since we got the C99 designated initializer stuff that was needed for
grsec support in there.  But Jeffrey says that things may have changed
enough to require openafs changes in response.
[14:25:21] <meffie> i've done it
[14:25:44] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl9C09F4AA> src/external/import-external-git.pl
[14:25:54] <meffie> er, i've done it in the past.
[14:26:24] <meffie> i actually might have something for roken to support the make check.
[14:27:23] <meffie> we need a portable mkdtemp.
[14:27:28] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl9C09F4AA> Er, which make check?
[14:27:51] <meffie> the openafs make check
[14:28:35] <meffie> a.k.a make test
[14:28:39] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl9C09F4AA> Ah, 'make check', not a check done by make.
[14:28:52] <meffie> oh, yes.
[14:30:08] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl9C09F4AA> My other meeting is about to start up, but I don't think there's a
whole lot to say on the 1.8 front since last week.
[14:30:21] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl9C09F4AA> I reviewed the other branch blockers and wanted a tweak or two.
[14:30:46] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl9C09F4AA> I guess there was the question of whether d_prune_aliases() is always
preferrable to d_invalidate(), which we could maybe talk about here.
[14:31:06] <stephan.wiesand> I don't qualifiy...
[14:31:23] <meffie> dunno.
[14:31:33] <stephan.wiesand> Joe r u here?
[14:32:05] <meffie> mvita might know.
[14:32:14] <mvita> he might, or he might not
[14:32:35] <mvita> I think it is correct, but I need to do some homework to know for sure
[14:34:13] <mvita> I made myself a note, but I don't know if I can get to that this week
[14:34:34] <stephan.wiesand> Looks like this will have to be sorted out in gerrit, or a later meeting
[14:34:43] <mvita> the context switch is expensive for that topic
[14:34:49] <stephan.wiesand> Worst case, can we live with what's there now?
[14:35:41] <mvita> I believe it's correct for that place, yes
[14:36:11] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl9C09F4AA> There was also the question of whether there were more places that
were potentially affected.
[14:36:40] <mvita> right, it's not fresh enough in my mind to speak to that question
[14:37:30] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl9C09F4AA> Okay.
[14:37:41] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl9C09F4AA> Please try to find time to comment in gerrit, then.
[14:37:49] <mvita> okay.
[14:38:15] <mvita> my list from today:
[14:38:20] <mvita> - 12389
[14:38:37] <mvita> - d_prune_alias research
[14:38:50] <mvita> - v4.8 testing
[14:39:40] <mvita> maybe Joe can take that last one off my plate
[14:39:43] <meffie> i can do the heimdal import
[14:42:00] <meffie> anything else today?
[14:42:09] <stephan.wiesand> Mark: thanks for taking these on
[14:42:19] <stephan.wiesand> Mike: Not from my side
[14:42:48] <stephan.wiesand> Thanks a lot for participating today!
[14:43:10] <stephan.wiesand> Let's adjourn?
[14:43:21] <mvita> agreed
[14:43:27] <mvita> thanks Stephan
[14:43:27] <meffie> thanks! have a good vacaction stephan.wiesand
[14:43:41] <stephan.wiesand> just 2 more days
[14:43:44] <stephan.wiesand> :-(
[14:44:07] <stephan.wiesand> And of course: r^3
[14:44:08] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl9C09F4AA> Thanks everyone!
