[14:01:14] <wiesand> Hi
[14:01:20] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> greetings
[14:01:36] <mvita> hello
[14:02:00] <mvita> my time is tight today, so I can't stay long
[14:02:12] <wiesand> Hi Ben. Hello Mark. Any news on cwd?
[14:03:09] <mvita> I spent many hours on it last week and got very close but burned out.   I do not have a root cause or solution yet.  I will be rejoining the battle tomorrow with some suggestions from Andrew and Mike.
[14:03:50] <wiesand> Too bad, but thanks for tackling it.
[14:04:06] <wiesand> So, shall we go for a 1.6.18.2 with the revert?
[14:04:12] <mvita> yes.
[14:04:33] <wiesand> (+ FBSD sysnames + Linux 4.6 if feasible)
[14:04:37] <wiesand> Ok, thanks.
[14:04:37] <meffie> hello
[14:04:46] <wiesand> Hello Mike.
[14:05:12] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> I will probably be able to look at linux 4.6 today.
[14:05:23] <meffie> woot
[14:05:49] <wiesand> Great. I wanted to ask what it will take to get 12297 merged.
[14:06:16] <wiesand> I’m just building test binaries for EL5/6/7 with the changes mentioned above.
[14:08:07] <wiesand> BTW I noticed that https://gerrit.openafs.org/11125 is not on 1_6_x when I cherry picked 12297
[14:09:26] <wiesand> Is it too invasive for the stable release?
[14:10:42] <mvita> I don't know, but I have not seen this one before and it is very interesting.
[14:11:00] <mvita> and sheds some insight into a number of other areas
[14:11:16] <mvita> thank you for pointing it out
[14:11:46] <wiesand> I think I’ll pull it up just to make sure it won’t get lost.
[14:12:09] <meffie> i forgot about this one.
[14:12:30] <meffie> yes, a pull up to at least discuss is in order.
[14:12:36] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> I would lean towards pulling it up, though I'm not familiar with the
issue.
[14:13:01] jgorse joins the room
[14:13:06] <mvita> since it is in the same ballpark as AOP_TRUNCATED_PAGE which we've looked at on and off for the splice issues
[14:13:10] <jgorse> hello
[14:13:20] <wiesand> Hello Joe
[14:13:44] <wiesand> Any news on Linux 4.7?
[14:14:30] <wiesand> (test builds completed - deploying...)
[14:14:42] <jgorse> I have built it for Debian 8.4. I have yet to do the install/AFS rebuild and test, though I could run them today if that would be useful.
[14:16:10] <meffie> i would think we'd want to check everyday. it's a moving target.
[14:16:31] jgorse nods
[14:16:38] <jgorse> at least the RCs
[14:17:18] <wiesand> When do we think 4.7 will be released? This Sunday?
[14:19:20] <wiesand> No, it will take one more week.
[14:20:11] <wiesand> We shouldn’t delay 1.6.18.2 for that. Unless we have to for other reasons (I think it should have the 4.6 change).
[14:21:19] <meffie> yes, seems reasonable.
[14:24:18] <wiesand> pullup of 11125 is 12328
[14:25:39] <wiesand> (test builds smoke test ok on EL5/6/7)
[14:26:09] <wiesand> Anything else on 1.6.x today?
[14:27:09] <wiesand> I guess not. I won’t be able to handle more than 1.6.18.2 for the next week.
[14:27:22] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> *nods*
[14:27:35] <wiesand> So, on to 1.8? Ben?
[14:28:10] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> pkgbuild needs a few tweaks still
[14:28:30] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> I don't think I actually got anything else done in the last week :(
[14:28:41] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> Well, I guess I did submit a fix for the ubuntu builder.
[14:28:56] <meffie> yes, thank you!
[14:29:05] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> (please review!)
[14:29:37] <meffie> does that mean 12298 should go in?
[14:30:07] <meffie> i thought that was was needed for 12299
[14:30:18] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> Oh, hmm.
[14:30:28] <meffie> er 12296  i mean
[14:30:54] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> They were submitted with that ordering but seemed independent, so I
merged the trivial one.
[14:31:04] <mvita> it's okay mike they're just random numbers
[14:31:11] <mvita> ;-)
[14:31:24] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> I should apologize to Marcio, I forgot that he had that sitting around
when I started looking at the ubuntu build failures.
[14:31:49] <meffie> it's ok, i was confused too.
[14:32:10] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> I'll just have to wait another year before I get to ignore return
values even more harder, then.
[14:32:36] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> (It might have helped if the commit message did not only say "warning"
since they are errors on the ubuntu builder)
[14:32:57] <wiesand> on pkgbuild: I personally wouldn’t consider the perl issues showstoppers
[14:33:20] <meffie> ah. i dont think he knew that at the time, but he should have sent in a new patch set with an updated commit message.
[14:33:38] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> I have this thing about not merging commented-out code.
[14:33:49] jgorse grins
[14:33:54] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> (I may well hijack the change to do so, but probably not today.)
[14:35:18] <meffie> oh, was there a gerrit that commented out code? i missed it.
[14:36:02] <wiesand> Up to you of course. Having it sit around for another 3 months waiting for PS3 does take resources though.
[14:36:29] <wiesand> Mike: 12239
[14:36:51] <meffie> oh.
[14:36:54] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> the pkgbuild changes has a couple chunks
[14:38:47] <meffie> ok, i'll take a look.
[14:40:39] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> thanks
[14:40:41] <wiesand> Elegant perl is not always the most maintainable option, see my comment in Uninstall.14.15
[14:41:26] <meffie> it is not often to see those to words so close together (elegant perl)
[14:41:33] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> The perl part I'm not going to hold things up for.
[14:42:49] <wiesand> I agree on the Makefile.in gripe.
[14:43:38] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> "what about the pkgbuild.sh.in one?"
[14:43:57] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> (I'm not actually sure if we have an "official" https path to the
CSDB.)
[14:44:36] <wiesand> (mumble) the redhat makesrpm.pl is doing the same thing... but it needn’t run as root
[14:44:47] <mvita> eeg
[14:45:49] <Jeffrey Altman> Linux 4.7 is still at least 1.5 weeks away.  AuriStor identified bugs in the netfilter connection management changes that kill rx performance.   A fix is working its way through the Linux development process.
[14:45:53] <mvita> the CSDB in-tree for the release being packaged should be considered canonical and latest for the purposes of the build.
[14:46:14] <wiesand> Thanks Jeffrey!
[14:47:00] <wiesand> Mark: which one? ;-)
[14:47:16] <mvita> heh
[14:47:26] <mvita> I was hoping someone would take that bait
[14:49:02] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> (Mark, I asked a question on 12298)
[14:49:15] <mvita> looking
[14:49:47] <jgorse> Will I find AuriStor’s bug report on rt.central?
[14:50:03] <Jeffrey Altman> why would there be a bug report in rt.central ?
[14:50:04] <mvita> okay, I will
[14:50:43] <jgorse> Oh, nevermind.
[14:51:06] <jgorse> I misread it.
[14:54:57] <jgorse> Wait… yes, that probably ought to exist somewhere outside of this conversation and indexible to the community, particularly the Linux devs.
[14:55:06] <jgorse> Where can AuriStor’s work be found?
[14:55:57] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> > indexible to the community
About that...
[14:56:17] <Jeffrey Altman> our discussions with the Linux devs are held on Linux mailing lists or in private conversations with the Linux devs
[14:56:46] <Jeffrey Altman> our conversations with Red Hat are in their bugzilla
[14:57:31] <Jeffrey Altman> I'm sorry but SNA employees do not get access to AuriStor's internal communications.
[14:58:06] <mvita> how about the OpenAFS project getting access to the essential knowledge of its sole gatekeeper?
[14:58:23] <mvita> leaving aside company affiliations for just a moment
[14:58:33] <Jeffrey Altman> such as?
[14:59:51] <Jeffrey Altman> what is it that you are asking for?
[15:00:20] <wiesand> I don’t think this discussion will get us anywhere. Can we please stop it?
[15:00:46] <mvita> okay, Stephan.
[15:01:22] <wiesand> These issues should be discussed on openafs-info and/or foundation-discuss IMO.
[15:02:03] <Jeffrey Altman> When the release team meeting is over for today I am happy to hold a conversation here
[15:02:06] <jgorse> Jeff, thanks for the general overview. I am generally looking for ways to help on the Linux front of things right now, so if there are open efforts regarding the Linux testing/development I am interested in getting a handle on it.
[15:02:46] <jgorse> I will start tracking Redhat bugzilla and Linux message list.
[15:03:03] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> I think the release team meeting is probably over for today.
[15:03:16] <meffie> ok thanks
[15:03:17] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> (Unless someone wants to commit time to working on the oustanding 1.8
patchsets that need work?)
[15:03:22] <wiesand> almost: new candidate for 1.6.18.2: 12329 ;-)
[15:03:47] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> "what number is the pullup?"
[15:04:04] <wiesand> It’s for master first
[15:04:09] <meffie> ben, is the list of outstanding patchsets in the release-team maillist?
[15:04:33] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> Not quite.
[15:05:24] <meffie> i see subject: "proposed list of blockers for 1.8"
[15:05:28] <wiesand> uh, merged already :)
[15:07:33] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl0226D601> (11790/11793, 12281, 12290, 12283 being a rough crack at things.  I
will send mail with a more authoritative list later.)
[15:07:45] <meffie> thank you.
[15:08:06] <wiesand> pullup is 12330
[15:08:46] <mvita> sorry, I have to drop as previously mentioned, I will check logs later.
[15:08:59] <wiesand> Thanks Mark!
[15:11:24] <wiesand> I guess we’re really finished for today now?
[15:12:22] <meffie> ok, thanks.
[15:12:36] <wiesand> I’ll take this as a yes. Let’s adjourn. Thanks a lot everyone!
[15:12:49] <meffie> yes, have a good evening.
[15:12:58] <wiesand> Goodbye.
[15:12:59] wiesand leaves the room
[15:12:59] <jgorse> Ciao.
