[13:27:32] meffie joins the room
[13:59:49] <mvita> Good morning!
[14:00:03] <meffie> howdy
[14:00:17] <mvita> Stephan is out for the next two weeks so we are left to our own devices.
[14:02:28] <mvita> Mike, I know Joe is on vacation
[14:02:53] <mvita> but where did he leave off on Linux 4.* stuff?
[14:03:09] <mvita> he tested and reviewed Ben's 4.5 commits
[14:03:18] <mvita> don't know how far he got w/ 4.6
[14:03:47] <mvita> I did some catching up in linux-fsdevel yesterday and found a few items to research for 4.6 and 4.7
[14:04:34] <mvita> so if I get to it tomorrow I might have a commit or two to push for them.
[14:05:48] <mvita> in 4.6 some macros we use (PAGE_CACHE_*) have gone away in favor of PAGE_* so that should just be a mechanical change
[14:05:53] <mvita> but we'll see
[14:06:15] <mvita> and functions page_cache_get and page_cache_release are also gone.
[14:06:26] <mvita> I believe that's a mechanical change as well.
[14:07:32] <mvita> there may be some things we need to do to be compatible with VFS timestamp changes too.
[14:07:53] <mvita> not too bad, I don't think
[14:08:12] <meffie> joe is out until next week.
[14:09:12] <mvita> aside from that, there are a few other changes in VFS that might affect us but require additional testing, or at least code analysis on our part.
[14:09:33] <mvita> again, I'll be getting to that later this week, or at least writing details to Ben and Joe.
[14:09:47] <meffie> ok thank you.
[14:10:45] <mvita> okay.   so for 1.6.18.1....
[14:11:05] <mvita> we should be able to at least get Ben's 4.5 fixes in.
[14:11:25] <mvita> and I'd like to see Marcio's OS X package stuff too
[14:11:26] <meffie> seems reasonable
[14:11:43] <mvita> he promised PS2 for 12239
[14:11:48] <meffie> yes
[14:12:22] Daria joins the room
[14:12:52] <mvita> for 1.6.19, I got independent field verification for my two Solaris patches today.
[14:13:31] <mvita> ugh, how can I be signed out of gerrit already?
[14:13:40] <mvita> it used to keep a login much longer, I think
[14:14:05] <mvita> 12291 and 12292 for Solaris should go in asap
[14:15:20] <mvita> is there anything already merged on master that is a cherrypick candidate for 1.6.19?
[14:15:35] <meffie> there's also a build fix for freebsd 10.3
[14:15:52] <mvita> Oh, nice, I missed that.  That should hit 1.6.18.1 as well
[14:16:23] <meffie> i did it locally then noticed it on the openafs bsd porters list
[14:17:32] <mvita> back to Linux for a second, I think 4.6 is -final now?  4.7 just had −rc1 on Sunday.
[14:17:35] <meffie> oh, the proper fix is still to be done. but it should be trivial i think.
[14:17:49] <mvita> yes, I remember this BSD one now.
[14:17:53] <mvita> agreed, trivial
[14:18:19] <meffie> yes, 4.6 was final some time ago.
[14:19:25] <mvita> "some time ago" >= 2 weeks in Linux land, apparently
[14:20:02] <mvita> the pace they maintain is incredible
[14:23:05] <mvita> anyway, I finally got subscribed to lwn.net yesterday so I can keep a better handle on Linux futures from a high-level point of view.  linux-fsdevel is too far in the weeds for that, but it's good for details of things that could affect OpenAFS
[14:23:57] <mvita> I guess Ben's not here to speak to 1.8.
[14:24:28] <mvita> the notes I sent out are just his list from several weeks ago, with the merged or abandoned ones removed from the list
[14:25:05] <mvita> so if we could review any of those we haven't hit yet, that would be good.
[14:25:37] <mvita> and I guess I should ping Thomas to see if he's still willing and able to work on the ones that were in his court
[14:25:56] <mvita> and if not, steal them back from him
[14:26:21] <meffie> i was reviewing daria's afsd "avoid zombies" (10004 i believe)
[14:26:47] <mvita> I saw that (title) but didn't look at the patch yet.
[14:26:52] <mvita> looking now
[14:27:26] <meffie> then, i'll look at ben's most recent list on the release-team mail list.
[14:27:46] <mvita> stoopid gerrit search can't find "zombie" but can find "zombies"
[14:30:09] <mvita> yes, okay, that actually would be nice for 1.6.18.1 as well if we can get it in
[14:30:59] <meffie> no, i think it would be in 1.6.19
[14:31:23] <mvita> so where do you draw the line for platform support patches?
[14:31:30] <meffie> in my humble opinion.
[14:31:51] <mvita> I can see that my two Solaris bug fixes don't qualify for 1.6.18.1
[14:32:07] <mvita> but this OS X one seems like maybe it would
[14:32:09] <meffie> this is just a fix, not blocking a particular platform.
[14:32:16] <mvita> ah, blocking, okay
[14:32:21] <mvita> that makes sense
[14:33:06] <mvita> I withdraw my suggestion of 10004 for 1.6.81.1
[14:33:26] <mvita> so you are gonna push ps9 for that when you are ready?
[14:33:55] <meffie> yes
[14:33:59] <mvita> thank you.
[14:34:10] <mvita> that's all I had for today - have you got anything?
[14:34:25] <meffie> i have nothing
[14:34:55] <mvita> okay, the silence from the gallery is deafening so let's adjourn.
[14:35:14] <mvita> I'm not gonna bother with minutes because I hate writing them, if that's okay with you.
[14:35:25] <meffie> kaduk (if you see the scollback) good luck finding an apartment.
[14:36:01] <meffie> thanks mvita
[14:36:08] <mvita> later
[17:14:53] Jeffrey Altman leaves the room
[17:18:51] meffie leaves the room
[17:23:54] Jeffrey Altman joins the room
