[15:05:01] <wiesand> Hello. Anyone here?
[15:05:14] <mvita> Hi Stephan!
[15:05:40] <wiesand> Ben is working behind the scenes...
[15:05:47] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl8F57DFC6> Hi.
[15:06:12] <wiesand> Hi.  I just uploaded the src.rpm
[15:06:32] <meffie> hello.
[15:08:17] <wiesand> Has anyone looked at the Linux 4.4 changes we have in gerrit?
[15:08:40] <mvita> yes.
[15:09:07] <wiesand> Are they good enough to give us a next maintence release with support for at least that kernel?
[15:09:11] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl8F57DFC6> Hmm, apparently I don't know the magic incantation to push a tag to
gerrit (I am listed as having the permission to push annotated tags)
[15:09:26] <wiesand> yikes
[15:09:35] <mvita> oh, it seems I didn't actually register any review
[15:09:46] <wiesand> Ben: You did it last time ;-)
[15:10:03] <wiesand> But hang on, I’ll check what I got told 3 years ago
[15:11:35] <wiesand> "use git tag -s
then push the tag to gerrit:
git push ssh://gerrit.openafs.org:29418/openafs tag openafs-stable-1_6_2pre1"
[15:11:59] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl8F57DFC6> Answer: the new gerrit has a separate permission for signed tags vs.
annotated tags.
[15:12:13] <wiesand> Ah.
[15:13:05] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl8F57DFC6> Stephan, you should be able to go ahead and release the volume now.
[15:13:59] <wiesand> underway
[15:14:31] <wiesand> done
[15:17:07] <wiesand> So, obviously there was a late "minor" addition to the agenda...
[15:19:38] <wiesand> I guess everyone is busy with 1.6.17 right now, one way or the other...
[15:20:38] <mvita> oh.
[15:32:01] <wiesand> The "go to the distribution page" link is still broken, though it looks ok in git now.
[15:36:45] <wiesand> Ben: rerunning the remctl command should suffice
[15:38:15] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl8F57DFC6> I thought I had re-run remctl already; maybe it is stuck :-/
[15:38:38] <wiesand> it’s ok now
[15:39:35] <wiesand> So the last missing bit is the mail announcement?
[15:41:11] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl8F57DFC6> I sent it ... just need a moderator.
[15:41:27] <wiesand> pester jhutz & cg2v directly ;-)
[15:42:37] <wiesand> That tends to work better than hoping that they notice a valid posting in between all the spam they probably get.
[15:43:50] <wiesand> So, back to the agenda, or is everybody busy doing something else now?
[15:44:10] <wiesand> Mark: thanks for reviewing the Linux 4.4 changes.
[15:45:10] <mvita> I'm still here
[15:45:21] <wiesand> Ah, ok.
[15:45:27] <mvita> just looking at the "foreign cell" one
[15:45:55] <mvita> "foreign" is used in two different ways in AFS
[15:46:15] <mvita> historically (and technically in the code) it refers to a DFS cell.
[15:46:33] <wiesand> I’ve heard of DFS ;-)
[15:46:36] <mvita> but in common usage, and in this patch, it refers to any cell that's not the home cell
[15:46:52] <mvita> I like to call these "remote" instead of "foreign" to avoid confusion
[15:47:46] <mvita> sorry, I'm conflating cell / REALM, but you understand what I mean
[15:47:55] <wiesand> I do.
[15:48:03] <wiesand> Did I ever mention that I dislike our security releases? ;-)
[15:48:23] <meffie> perhaps.
[15:48:24] <wiesand> Ben: please don’t get this wrong. Kudos for all the work you put in!
[15:48:42] <mvita> I only like them if I wrote one of the security patches.
[15:49:31] <mvita> I actually run like this all the time on my test cell - my admin principal is "foreign"
[15:49:55] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl8F57DFC6> wiesand: Thank you :)
[15:50:17] <meffie> yes, thank you.
[15:50:36] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl8F57DFC6> It can be hard to know when to talk about remote realms vs. remote
cells; for today's advisory it's really the kerberos realm that
matters, not so much the remote AFS cell.
[15:50:47] <mvita> right.
[15:53:26] <mvita> Ben & Stephan, thanks from me as well.
[15:56:07] <wiesand> I don’t have much time left today.
[15:56:18] <wiesand> Any news on 4.5 (how bad is it)?
[15:56:25] <wiesand> Linux 4.5 of course.
[15:56:27] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl8F57DFC6> Thanks for your help with the release!
[15:56:48] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl8F57DFC6> I will try to get the 4.4 support merged soon
[15:57:21] <wiesand> That would be nice in view of what is now likely to become 1.6.18
[15:57:43] <wiesand> Any remarks regarding the other changes on the candidate list?
[15:58:36] <wiesand> Surprisingly, I think only 12179 will need to be rebased now.
[15:59:34] <mvita> Stephan, I don't have any news on 4.5
[15:59:39] <meffie> i think 11654 (shake-loose-vaches fix) is ready
[15:59:42] <wiesand> And that’s the most complex one anyway. It may even be too complex for the stable release, but I’ll leave it to the experts to comment on that.
[16:00:04] <mvita> I hope to get a 4.5 kernel machine up soon, but I've got some other high priority stuff blocking me atm
[16:00:44] <wiesand> Probably, given today’s events ;-)
[16:01:20] <mvita> yes, that just pushed back my previous high priority blockers
[16:01:36] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl8F57DFC6> Sorry! ;)
[16:02:05] <wiesand> push push pop push push pop ...
[16:02:24] <mvita> heh, don't apologize, security is highest priority of all in software
[16:02:45] <mvita> "first, do no harm"
[16:02:47] <meffie> i see more pushes than pops :)
[16:03:08] <wiesand> that’s not by accident...
[16:03:09] <mvita> yup, more pushes than pops for sure
[16:03:20] <mvita> "it's turtles all the way down"
[16:04:28] <wiesand> right
[16:04:55] <wiesand> I guess we should call it a day - unless Ben has something urgent to discuss regarding 1.8?
[16:05:31] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl8F57DFC6> Not especially.
[16:05:49] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowl8F57DFC6> Sorry for rendering the meeting slot a bit unproductive; I had been
planning to be done sooner.
[16:06:14] <meffie> no worries!
[16:06:35] <wiesand> I think the meeting slot is good for finalizing releases.
[16:07:00] <wiesand> Fine, let’s adjourn. Thanks a lot everyone!
[16:07:13] <mvita> later.
[16:07:23] <wiesand> See you next week to work on 1.6.18pre1 - hopefully ;-)
[16:07:27] <meffie> bye

straight to sha256.
