[03:16:10] kaduk leaves the room
[14:51:09] meffie joins the room
[15:00:21] wiesand joins the room
[15:00:27] <mvita> good morning
[15:00:34] <mvita> hello Stephan!
[15:00:40] <wiesand> Hello
[15:00:43] <mvita> hello Mike
[15:01:27] <mvita> and anyone else who's here (jeffrey, jhutz, kaduk)
[15:02:06] <wiesand> My life will return to normal within a couple of weeks.
[15:02:35] <meffie> hello
[15:02:58] <wiesand> And during that period I should already be able to contribute a bit.
[15:02:59] <meffie> hello wiesand, hope you are well.
[15:03:12] <wiesand> I am, thanks.
[15:03:25] <mvita> yes, Stephan, it's good to see you
[15:04:30] <wiesand> I have to admit I’m not up to date.
[15:04:44] <mvita> well.
[15:04:53] <mvita> I'm not either ;-)
[15:05:41] <wiesand> I’m here, but not yet ready to take the chair.
[15:06:08] <mvita> no problem, take all the time you need
[15:06:33] <wiesand> Our biggest worry is still Linux 4.4+ ?
[15:06:36] <mvita> although I am gaining a profound personal appreciation for what you do.
[15:07:15] <mvita> yes, last week I said I would send an email to the lists asking for volunteer(s) to take ownership of that
[15:07:25] <mvita> tracking down the problem and fixing it
[15:07:40] <mvita> but when I went to write the email last night, I was drawing blanks
[15:08:09] <mvita> so if today we could work on what that email should ask for and where it should be sent
[15:08:13] <mvita> that would help
[15:08:28] <mvita> ben suggested Anders
[15:09:11] <mvita> but perhaps we could get some new contributors  to step up
[15:09:27] <wiesand> I know that state (drawing blanks)...
[15:09:31] <mvita> heh
[15:10:17] <wiesand> Anders may be our best bet.
[15:10:32] <mvita> first, for a developer - I think just an open call to work on the problem, but I couldn't even find the rt ticket for this
[15:11:02] <mvita> nor Chas' gerrit comments that have been mentioned frequently
[15:11:29] <mvita> all I see are Michael's 2 gerrit submissions
[15:11:40] <mvita> neither one mentions the ERESTARTSYS issue
[15:11:50] <mvita> so where is that discussed?
[15:11:58] <wiesand> no idea
[15:13:54] <mvita> well, ben and jeffrey both referred to that, so I'll ask them
[15:14:37] <mvita> presuming I have that, or some other documentation of the issue and what's been done so far - where should I send the email?   openafs-devel, surely.
[15:14:50] <mvita> but should I cross-post to openafs-info as well?
[15:15:14] <mvita> I don't know list etiquette very well at all, that's one reason why I'm asking
[15:15:35] <mvita> the other is whether it's even an appropriate question for -inof
[15:15:37] <mvita> info
[15:16:08] <wiesand> I deem it appropriate. We have a problem. Subscribers of -info ought to know.
[15:16:31] <mvita> okay.
[15:16:58] <mvita> another need (mentioned in the notes from last week) is for the project to have a linux-nightly buildslave
[15:17:12] <mvita> so we can get earlier warnings on upcoming issues
[15:17:49] <mvita> should I also ask for someone to donate/provide that on the list(s)?
[15:17:50] <wiesand> We’d still need someone to deal with the errors.
[15:17:57] <mvita> sure
[15:18:27] <mvita> finding the person is the more urgent need
[15:18:28] <wiesand> If building fails on -rc1, is it due to a bug or a new feature?
[15:19:04] <wiesand> Isolate the change causing the failure, try to contact the developer, ...
[15:19:30] <mvita> exactly
[15:20:03] <mvita> the sooner these are discovered, the better chance we have of influencing the outcome
[15:20:31] <wiesand> True.
[15:21:03] <mvita> so how do we go about obtaining that buildslave?   whom should we ask?   who would set it up?
[15:21:23] <wiesand> But my current bet is that we’ll probably end up in a state where things get fixed after the new kernels (or backports from them) get deployed at sites and things start failing.
[15:21:49] <mvita> it's possible someone in the community already has one, so I'm thinking of just sending a buildslave request to -info
[15:22:21] <wiesand> Sounds reasonable.
[15:22:59] <mvita> okay, now I have a better idea of what I need to do.
[15:23:52] <mvita> anything else we should discuss re linux 4.4?
[15:24:47] <wiesand> Whether/when we want to have a new release even w/o supporting it?
[15:26:17] <mvita> okay; that's where I'm not up to date - the things that are currently queued in gerrit for 1.6.x  - which ones should we focus on getting into a possible future 1.6.17?
[15:26:46] <mvita> if there are worthwhile things in there, I think we should move ahead without blocking on linux 4.4
[15:27:52] <wiesand> I’ll have to revisit my notes and look at the recent pullups.
[15:28:03] <wiesand> There was one real fix though...  hang on...
[15:28:23] <meffie> there is the one regression fix (non -dynroot thing)
[15:28:27] <wiesand> 12166
[15:28:28] <mvita> is it worthwhile to do that while we're together?  either now or next meeting?
[15:28:35] <mvita> looking
[15:29:30] <mvita> yes - that should go asap
[15:30:06] <mvita> it's approved, just needs to be merged.
[15:30:14] <meffie> there are several other pullups that would be nice too.
[15:30:14] <wiesand> I was about to have a test build with it in and then submit it, but then that disruption happened.
[15:30:24] <mvita> yes.
[15:30:57] <mvita> is there any way I could do some of that?
[15:31:19] <mvita> I don't think I have any privs to do tags or merges currently
[15:31:28] <mvita> so probably not
[15:32:11] <wiesand> It’s not a big deal, and I should get around to it "soon".
[15:32:18] <mvita> but I could certainly pull it and do some testing if you like
[15:32:42] <wiesand> That never hurts ;-)
[15:33:02] <mvita> okay.
[15:33:57] <mvita> how about the others for 1.6.x - would you like to discuss those now, or is next week better?
[15:34:13] <wiesand> next week is better - hopefully
[15:34:21] <mvita> okay.
[15:34:45] <mvita> I would also suggest 11778 and 11795
[15:34:57] <mvita> need to go together, both should be in next release
[15:35:03] <wiesand> review is always welcome of course
[15:36:52] <mvita> alright, I'll put 1.6.x queue discussion on next week's agenda
[15:37:16] <meffie> thanks
[15:37:28] <wiesand> Good. I may be able to help.
[15:38:03] <mvita> for os x packaging, we (SNA) still have stuff we intend to upstream, but haven't gotten to it yet
[15:38:25] <mvita> but expected "soonish"
[15:38:58] <mvita> anything else for 1.6.x?
[15:39:16] <wiesand> Not here.
[15:40:05] <mvita> ben's not here to speak to 1.8.x.  I know meffie has a few things in flight on master that we hope to get in.
[15:40:32] <mvita> and I would like to get the rest of the large volume stuff in, so I need to tend to those
[15:40:44] <mvita> one piece got merged yesterday
[15:40:45] <meffie> ben just posted new review comment.
[15:42:31] <mvita> that's all I've got.
[15:43:04] <meffie> ok, thanks.
[15:43:37] <wiesand> Thanks a lot for keeping things going!
[15:43:45] <mvita> thanks for coming, mike and stephan - we are adjourned
[15:43:53] <mvita> you're welcome, stephan
[15:43:53] <wiesand> Goodbye
[15:43:54] wiesand leaves the room
[15:43:55] <mvita> bye
[15:44:00] <meffie> thanks have a good day.
