[15:01:11] <wiesand> Hello
[15:01:37] <wiesand> Who’s here?
[15:01:39] <Jeffrey Altman> hello.  Thanksgiving Day is tomorrow in U.S.
[15:01:59] <wiesand> Ah, good to know.
[15:02:05] <Jeffrey Altman> I have my in-laws here so won't be in the room.
[15:02:16] <wiesand> Ok.
[15:02:23] <wiesand> Linux news, anyone?
[15:02:28] <meffie> hello.
[15:03:00] <Jeffrey Altman> To answer your question regarding announcements.  The mailing list administrators are Jeffrey Hutzelman and Chaskiel Grundman.
[15:03:32] <wiesand> Thanks. I poked jhutz already, will try Chaskiel too.
[15:03:51] <wiesand> If no effect, I’ll send it to -info and -devel.
[15:04:51] <Jeffrey Altman> Linux 4.4 has already broken openafs.  there are more changes in the pipeline.
[15:05:10] <wiesand> Gross.
[15:06:02] <wiesand> I’m curious whether we’ll get help here. I guess we’ll see.
[15:06:12] <wiesand> Could be the beginning of thend.
[15:06:45] <wiesand> Is there anything really trivial that would qualify for 1.6.16 after pre1?
[15:06:47] <Jeffrey Altman> 4.4 won't be released until January.
[15:06:50] Daria joins the room
[15:07:37] <wiesand> Right.
[15:08:25] <wiesand> So we’ll work omm current mainline til then, on Ubuntu a few more weeks or months, on RHEL and debian a few more years.
[15:09:22] <wiesand> 12112 is an example for something I’d just sneak in before 1.6.16 final.
[15:10:04] <meffie> 12107 looks good so far, and fixes the curses build issue.
[15:10:31] <wiesand> That would indeed be another one.
[15:11:45] <wiesand> Is anything major coming up for 1.6.17?
[15:12:17] <Daria> linux-wise, or generally?
[15:12:18] <meffie> i'm not aware of anything that is not already in gerrit or master.
[15:12:38] <wiesand> Daria: generally. Linux seems evident :-(
[15:13:23] <wiesand> What are the opinions on RT #131771 ?
[15:14:05] <wiesand> Can we rename kpasswd to kapasswd in the stable series?
[15:15:13] <wiesand> Someone approved the pre1 announcement. Thanks, whoever it was.
[15:15:55] <wiesand> Should I ask about kpasswd on -info? -devel?
[15:17:43] <wiesand> I think I’ll just pull it up. If it’s not vetoed in gerrit it’ll go into 1.6.17pre1.
[15:17:44] <meffie> hmm. dont know offhand.
[15:19:56] <meffie> seems it could be moved to a different rpm. that you never install :)
[15:20:27] <wiesand> That’s no better for the sites that still need it.
[15:20:34] <wiesand> They update, it’s gone.
[15:21:23] <wiesand> How much sympathy do we have?
[15:21:41] <wiesand> And how much will we have next year? The year after? ...
[15:22:13] <Jeffrey Altman> The reason that kpasswd was not pulled up is because breaking packaging expectations in a minor update is rude
[15:22:58] kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowlB2515201 joins the room
[15:23:02] <wiesand> I agree. But it’s really obsolete stuff, and major updates have been absent and probably will be for a while.
[15:23:41] <wiesand> Breaking debugging for those who switched to krb5 is rude too.
[15:23:50] <Jeffrey Altman> then you change the version number to 1.8 and branch that from 1.6
[15:24:20] <wiesand> Interesting thought ;-)
[15:24:39] <wiesand> All past roadmaps are ashes and dust anyway.
[15:25:39] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowlB2515201> I feel like such comments are supposed to inspire outrage in me, but I
don't seem to have it in me.
[15:26:09] <wiesand> That certainly wasn’t my intention.
[15:26:49] <wiesand> But such a 1.8 branch wouldn’t help the reporter either, because we wouldn’t provide packages for that...
[15:29:11] <wiesand> Ok, I didn’t expect any consensus on that issue.
[15:29:20] <Jeffrey Altman> there are no good answers.  the question is whom do you want to cause pain for.
[15:29:43] <wiesand> Right.
[15:32:00] mvita joins the room
[15:32:48] <mvita> sorry I'm late
[15:33:02] <mvita> <reading scrollback>
[15:33:05] <wiesand> I think we’re through "my" agenda.
[15:33:14] <wiesand> Ben?
[15:34:14] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowlB2515201> I don't have much prepared for 1.8
[15:34:40] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowlB2515201> The external-logging stuff needs a rebase for the full stack in order
to be able to merge the documentation commits that are approved.
[15:35:00] <meffie> i can do that if you want.
[15:35:11] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowlB2515201> I spent time on RT and didn't really have any left to look at more of
the external logging bits.
[15:35:15] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowlB2515201> Please do, Mike; thanks.
[15:35:30] <wiesand> Thanks for the RT cleanup!
[15:35:33] <meffie> ok, will do.
[15:36:17] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowlB2515201> So there's a couple new commits to review as a result of the RT pass,
though probably not terribly urgent.
[15:36:36] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowlB2515201> (It's not like anyone urgently needs to build an optimized IRIX kernel
module, after all...)
[15:36:56] <wiesand> Unlikely...
[15:37:06] <mvita> if you build it, they will come.
[15:37:08] <meffie> lol
[15:37:42] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowlB2515201> I also asked Chas to look at teaching rxgen to do the right thing with
64-bit size_t in rx_opaque, so there's the rxgen-size-t-workaround
topic to review, replacing my -1'd hack of s/size_t/afs_uint32/ that I
really don't want to use.
[15:37:42] <wiesand> [chuckles]
[15:38:03] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowlB2515201> hehe
[15:38:26] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowlB2515201> So, I think the 1.8 summary status remains "please review things".
[15:38:35] <mvita> will do.
[15:39:06] <wiesand> Our project’s continuity is impressive
[15:39:13] <kadukoafs@gmail.com/barnowlB2515201> And with that, I should probably sign off, unless anyone else has
anything?
[15:39:25] <wiesand> I don’t.
[15:39:47] <mvita> -
[15:40:01] <wiesand> Let’s call it a meeting then. Thanks all!
[15:40:21] wiesand leaves the room
[15:40:25] <mvita> thank you - and happy thanksgiving to those who observe it
[15:41:00] meffie leaves the room
[16:06:45] wiesand joins the room
[16:07:37] wiesand leaves the room
[21:11:35] mvita leaves the room
