[13:58:03] <mvita> good morning, Jeffrey!
[13:58:36] meffie joins the room
[13:58:44] <mvita> howdy meffie!
[13:58:55] <Jeffrey Altman> morning
[13:59:41] stephan.wiesand joins the room
[14:00:05] <meffie> morning.
[14:00:17] <stephan.wiesand> Hi
[14:00:31] <stephan.wiesand> came in this very minute...
[14:01:06] <stephan.wiesand> So how about 1.6.14?
[14:01:37] <mvita> I sent drafts for release notes to the list this morning
[14:01:54] <stephan.wiesand> Is there anything that may keep us from releasing it r.s.n.?
[14:02:28] <mvita> not that I am aware of
[14:03:02] <stephan.wiesand> Ok. Thanks for the draft.
[14:03:17] <Jeffrey Altman> Stephan, what is the text editing service that you use?
[14:03:39] <stephan.wiesand> That collective one? Let me check...
[14:03:47] kaduk joins the room
[14:04:13] <stephan.wiesand> https://desypad.de/FYQlBysr2m
[14:04:14] <Jeffrey Altman> might as well edit the mark's proposed text there
[14:04:24] <mvita> re: release notes:  please feel free to remove my name and put them out over your name (Stephan) or just "release team" as you judge appropriate
[14:04:39] <stephan.wiesand> Mark: Thanks
[14:05:27] <Jeffrey Altman> Mark, you should click the link that Stephan posted
[14:05:32] <mvita> okey
[14:05:43] haha desypad works better when javscript is on
[14:06:05] <Jeffrey Altman> who is the "the room" this time?
[14:06:24] as to 1.6.14, did we ever hear from ben about the testing?
[14:06:24] <meffie> those are some looong lines :)
[14:06:35] really, again?
[14:06:39] sigh
[14:06:46] <kaduk> Someone is feeling lucky...
[14:06:49] <stephan.wiesand> No problem, I can see you with this client.
[14:06:54] Daria Brashear joins the room
[14:07:01] <kaduk> Anyway, the code that we're running works fine for backups.
[14:07:20] <Daria Brashear> fine, here. am i now not the room?
[14:07:29] <stephan.wiesand> No more :)
[14:07:31] <Daria Brashear> good
[14:07:52] <stephan.wiesand> Ben: any chance you could compare the gerrit changes to what you're actually running?
[14:07:55] <Jeffrey Altman> I suggest expanding "regex" to "regular expressions"
[14:08:10] <kaduk> I plan to do such a comparison, yes.
[14:08:45] <stephan.wiesand> Thanks. What I saw in the ticket looked slightly different from what we have in gerrit.
[14:08:59] <kaduk> Hmm, apparently the patches we're running with didn't make it to github, alas.
[14:10:56] <mvita> don't remove the example volume with no wildcard chars - it's important to show even non-wildcarded volume specs still invoke regex on the server side
[14:11:21] <mvita> tx
[14:12:42] <mvita> eeg.
[14:14:27] <meffie> btw mvita, we are planning on installing etherpad on www.devlab.sinenomine.net <http://www.devlab.sinenomine.net> for our own use, but i'm waiting on dustin.
[14:14:47] <mvita> ahh
[14:15:00] <Jeffrey Altman> I think this is too complicated.  Might as well just say that everything requires regular expressions except for .....
[14:15:32] <mvita> I was thinking the same.
[14:15:42] <mvita> hold on
[14:20:40] <mvita> how's that
[14:20:41] <mvita> ?
[14:22:05] <kaduk> Seems fine here.
[14:22:23] <stephan.wiesand> I think I get it, so it's probably fine ;-)
[14:23:51] <Jeffrey Altman> the first paragraph says the regex support is for volume names.   there is no need to discuss fileserver and partitionspecifications
[14:23:58] <mvita> oh, thanks whoever threw in the bare RPC case - I forgot about that
[14:24:35] <mvita> I think there is, since .* is easily miscontrued as requiring regex
[14:25:02] <kaduk> Yeah, might as well be explicit/clear
[14:25:39] <mvita> misconstrued
[14:25:54] <mvita> and misspelled
[14:25:55] <stephan.wiesand> s/prevents the buffer overruns in the regex support and reenables the regex support/...reenables it/ ?
[14:26:31] <mvita> ah good stephan
[14:26:34] <Jeffrey Altman> it was disabled in 1.6.13; now it is enabled again
[14:27:17] <mvita> no, he was referring to the redundancy
[14:27:26] <mvita> "regex support" twice in the same sentence
[14:27:35] <stephan.wiesand> which Jeff just removed, looks better to me now
[14:27:42] <mvita> I removed it
[14:27:55] <stephan.wiesand> whoever...
[14:29:24] <mvita> +1 looks good to me but someone else must approve
[14:29:31] <Jeffrey Altman> I'm fine with the text as-is
[14:30:30] <Daria Brashear> looks good
[14:30:51] <stephan.wiesand> Great. I think this makes for a reasonable announcement and  can go into NEWS without shortening. What about the web page?
[14:33:43] <Jeffrey Altman> See web page version in desypad.e
[14:35:28] <mvita> hmm, some extra spaces crept into the web page
[14:35:43] <stephan.wiesand> Looks good, thanks. I'll turn those into gerrit changes.
[14:36:01] <kaduk> Yes, looks good, thanks.
[14:36:18] <stephan.wiesand> Spaces don't hurt there, and the formatting will have to be fixed anyway.
[14:36:44] <mvita> okey
[14:37:28] <stephan.wiesand> I'll not get done a lot today for a number of reasons. But I should be able to get things into shape tomorrow.
[14:37:46] <mvita> ah, missed a closing paren....
[14:37:50] <Jeffrey Altman> It would be great to have 1.6.14 released before next Wednesday
[14:38:40] <stephan.wiesand> I really really hope for this week. Tomorrow, if at all possible.
[14:40:07] <stephan.wiesand> Ben, do we wait for your feedback?
[14:40:15] <kaduk> "No" ;)
[14:40:53] <stephan.wiesand> You don't have the source for what you're running?
[14:41:17] <kaduk> I do have it.
[14:41:25] <kaduk> (I already commented in gerrit.)
[14:41:52] <stephan.wiesand> Missed that, really sorry.
[14:42:16] <kaduk> No worries
[14:45:10] <stephan.wiesand> So 1.6.14 is on track, releasing it tomorrow seems feasible. We could even strive for today, but I know I would make all kind of stupid mistakes when doing it in a haste this evening.
[14:46:26] <mvita> oh - can the web page have a link to the release notes for more details?
[14:46:46] <mvita> I think that would be helpful
[14:47:07] <stephan.wiesand> It always has.
[14:47:12] <mvita> oh, okay
[14:47:38] <mvita> well, I meant the web page we just wrote
[14:48:22] <stephan.wiesand> That will go onto the main page, first thing you see when you visit www.openafs.org <http://www.openafs.org>. And there's always a link to the release notes.
[14:48:31] <mvita> okay, thanks
[14:49:21] <stephan.wiesand> Next topic: 1.6.14.1
[14:49:34] <stephan.wiesand> Any news on Linux 4.2?
[14:50:12] <stephan.wiesand> And probably more interesting: what about 11945?
[14:51:03] <Jeffrey Altman> I have nothing new to add regarding 4.2.
[14:51:22] <Jeffrey Altman> there is a ton of work to be finished before the workshop next week and everyone is crushed
[14:51:43] <stephan.wiesand> Understood.
[14:52:11] <stephan.wiesand> 4.2 ETA is 11 days from now though.
[14:52:37] <Jeffrey Altman> there are fixes for known issues that are not yet in tree, I'm not sure how firm that date is
[14:53:13] <stephan.wiesand> An rc8 would be nice for us, but unusual.
[14:53:52] <Jeffrey Altman> the current tree panics when using docker.   I doubt it would be permitted to be released when a fix is in progress
[14:54:41] <stephan.wiesand> Hopefully. So these issues may help us.
[14:55:21] <stephan.wiesand> Worst case we could release w/o 11945 and try to raise the limit later.
[14:55:53] <Jeffrey Altman> there are a variety of options
[14:56:28] <stephan.wiesand> But even for doing that, some more review of the 4.2 changes on the 1.6 branch are needed.
[14:56:37] <kaduk> They seem fine so far.
[14:58:51] <stephan.wiesand> Missed you again...  thanks.
[14:59:37] <kaduk> I think I'm on the last one now.
[15:00:19] <stephan.wiesand> You may have to do the 1.6.14.1 release without me.
[15:00:41] <Jeffrey Altman> k
[15:02:18] <kaduk> (done)
[15:02:21] <stephan.wiesand> My vacation starts next Thursday. There are no firm plans yet. But if the heat wave we've been suffering through here isn't over then, I'll be on a vessel going north Thursday evening.
[15:02:37] <Jeffrey Altman> great
[15:03:07] <Jeffrey Altman> Thursday evening the rest of us will be on a dinner cruise around Pittsburgh
[15:03:44] <stephan.wiesand> Sounds great too.
[15:03:58] <kaduk> I couldn't tell if there was anything scheduled for Friday evening, so I got a return flight on saturday.
[15:04:11] <Jeffrey Altman> nothing scheduled on Friday
[15:04:18] <stephan.wiesand> But you'll all have internet connectivity right after again, while I simply don't know yet.
[15:04:32] <Jeffrey Altman> we will have internet on the boat
[15:04:38] <stephan.wiesand> Ben: it's great to hear you'll be there.
[15:05:45] <kaduk> Yes, I'm happy that I'll be able to make it.
[15:06:34] <stephan.wiesand> My vessel will probably offer that too, but it tends to be slow and expensive. And I'm not even sure in which country I'll be on Friday.
[15:06:54] <kaduk> Such freedom of choice :)
[15:07:55] <stephan.wiesand> Right. And that's why I'm not willing to make commitments for the time from next Thursday to the end of September.
[15:08:13] <Jeffrey Altman> I remember 2005 when we had a wifi access point sharing one cellular phone 2G connection
[15:08:26] <kaduk> Ouch.
[15:09:26] <stephan.wiesand> I'm on 3g right now...
[15:10:54] <stephan.wiesand> Anything else to discuss today?
[15:11:20] <Jeffrey Altman> I don't think so
[15:11:25] Daria Brashear leaves the room
[15:12:04] meffie leaves the room
[15:12:17] kaduk leaves the room
[15:12:26] <stephan.wiesand> So, thanks a lot everyone!
[15:12:29] stephan.wiesand leaves the room
[15:12:56] mvita leaves the room
[16:03:40] Jeffrey Altman leaves the room
[16:04:08] Jeffrey Altman joins the room
[17:15:01] Daria Brashear joins the room
[17:27:54] Daria Brashear leaves the room
