[12:30:44] meffie joins the room
[13:37:43] kaduk joins the room
[13:43:27] <meffie> good morning dr. kaduk
[13:43:28] jhutz@jis.mit.edu/owl leaves the room
[13:44:49] <kaduk> 'mornin'
[13:46:36] <Jeffrey Altman> afternoon to some, morning to others.
[14:00:05] <kaduk> Hmm, no sign of fearless leader.
[14:00:51] wiesand joins the room
[14:01:04] <kaduk> Fearless leader!
[14:01:16] <wiesand> Sorry.
[14:01:39] <wiesand> Physics colloq was long but really fascinating today.
[14:01:47] <kaduk> It's good to be back after missing a few weeks.
[14:01:56] <kaduk> I can sympathize
[14:02:26] <wiesand> Welcome back. We sure missed you.
[14:03:27] <wiesand> Daria won’t make it today.
[14:03:29] <Jeffrey Altman> bad news from Marc on Linux 4.2.   vfs changes were the first bits merged and they break us.   Scope of issues not yet determined and no fixes yet.
[14:03:55] <wiesand> Great :-/
[14:04:12] <kaduk> At least it's early in the cycle...
[14:04:19] <wiesand> On the other hand he confirms the 1.6.12 in the current state is ok for 4.1.
[14:05:11] <wiesand> And I think we should release it this week.
[14:05:22] <wiesand> (won’t get much done today)
[14:07:09] <wiesand> I probably would have agreed to sneaking 11894 in. But it doesn’t warrant another prerelease IMO.
[14:07:36] <wiesand> Mike: can you accept that 11894 waits for another cycle?
[14:08:26] <meffie> yes
[14:08:54] <wiesand> Thanks. Given Linu 4.2, the next release isn’t all that far in the future anyway...
[14:09:43] <Jeffrey Altman> which 1.6 release was http://gerrit.openafs.org/7540 merged into?
[14:10:22] <wiesand> So I’ll merge 11884 and that will be 1.6.12.
[14:11:11] <kaduk> 1.6.6, looks like
[14:11:29] <wiesand> grep flushall /afs/grand.central.org/software/openafs/1.6.*/RELN*
/afs/grand.central.org/software/openafs/1.6.6/RELNOTES-1.6.6:    * Added the "fs flushall" subcommand, which makes the client discard all
[14:12:27] <wiesand> Yes it can wait until the next pre1.
[14:13:12] <wiesand> Speaking of which:
[14:13:41] <wiesand> Looks like we should have that next release ready for the Linux 4.2 release.
[14:13:49] <Jeffrey Altman> I agree
[14:13:54] <wiesand> Thats ~6-7 weeks.
[14:14:20] <Jeffrey Altman> I agree that 11894 can wait
[14:14:24] <wiesand> In addition, soon after that date (on August 19) my vacation will start.
[14:14:53] <Jeffrey Altman> Aug 17 is the workshop.   targeting a pre-release for the week before that would be good
[14:15:38] <wiesand> I hope we’ll do a bit better for pre1.
[14:15:53] <wiesand> Linux can be s showstopper of course...
[14:16:47] <Jeffrey Altman> Marc might have vacation and YFS has some other commitments between now and then.   We will see what the 4.2 changes look like.
[14:17:47] <wiesand> Well, if there are no resources to fix it, no client for Linux 4.2.
[14:18:32] <wiesand> Once the changes arrive on Ubuntu LTS there may be enough pressure to get it fixed.
[14:19:05] <wiesand> Are there other “major” things that should make it into that release?
[14:19:48] <kaduk> I have a freebsd tweak that ought get merged, but it is hardly major
[14:20:32] <wiesand> Keeping it lightweight will help getting the release out in time. So that’s fine.
[14:21:19] <wiesand> Next item: Red Hat binaries
[14:22:06] <wiesand> Things have changed since we decided not to provide those for new distros/releases. Or developed differently than expected.
[14:22:51] <wiesand> Should we recommence uploading Stephen’s packages for Fedora and EL7?
[14:24:47] <wiesand> No opinions on that?
[14:25:01] <wiesand> Would anyone be unhappy if I did it?
[14:25:10] <Jeffrey Altman> I do not believe the circumstances that caused us to take that stance have changed.
[14:25:39] <wiesand> They have.
[14:26:04] <wiesand> There is no more “downstream packaging” for Fedora that I’d know of.
[14:26:44] <Jeffrey Altman> The reason we took that stance was because *we* have no resources to maintain the packaging and it was decided that an external group should do so.
[14:27:08] <wiesand> And the CentOS storage SIG was expected to get off the ground and include OpenAFS.
[14:27:51] <wiesand> Well, it’s working. What we didn’t have the resources for was going from transarc paths to FHS.
[14:28:05] <wiesand> And that indeed hasn’t changed.
[14:28:19] <Jeffrey Altman> Billings produced the packaging for Centos 7
[14:28:21] <wiesand> But folks are using the transarc path packaging anyway.
[14:28:35] <Jeffrey Altman> and people are using his packages
[14:28:58] <wiesand> I checked the SIG meeting minutes yesterday. No activity on openAFS for half a year, and the packages were not finished.
[14:28:59] <Jeffrey Altman> at least those in the openafs IRC
[14:29:28] <Jeffrey Altman> The Centos build system cannot be used to produce the packages
[14:29:46] <wiesand> At least not yet, right.
[14:29:54] <Jeffrey Altman> The Centos build system cannot build for all of the kernel versions
[14:30:16] <Jeffrey Altman> Billings is producing packages outside of the Centos automated build system
[14:31:00] <wiesand> I wasn’t aware of those. Haven’t seen any reply on -info pointing to them when someone asked for packages either.
[14:31:39] <Jeffrey Altman> My perspective is that OpenAFS should not maintain packaging in the OpenAFS source repository and that packages should be provided by an entity that is committed to supporting one or more specific platforms.
[14:32:53] <wiesand> It was a question only. If a gatekeeper is opposed to it and everyone else indifferent, that settles it.
[14:33:28] <wiesand> On to 1.8?
[14:33:57] <meffie> but you asked if we should recommence uploading rpms from Stephen?
[14:34:19] <wiesand> Well those are made from the packaging in our tree.
[14:35:01] <meffie> yes, well, he can just maintain the scripts/specs in a separate repo, no?
[14:35:25] <wiesand> The point is he doesn’t maintain them either way.
[14:35:42] <meffie> i see.
[14:35:54] <Jeffrey Altman> Mike, Stephen doesn't maintain the packaging he simply manages the mock instance that builds stuff
[14:36:05] <wiesand> (no offense against Stephen intended whatsoever!)
[14:36:10] <meffie> oh, i see. thanks for explaining.
[14:36:30] <Jeffrey Altman> Its just not something that Edinburgh is prepared to do at the moment
[14:37:10] <meffie> fair enough. i assumed he was also maintaining the spec, etc.
[14:38:05] <meffie> thanks. moving on.
[14:38:22] <wiesand> So, anything about 1.8?
[14:39:38] <wiesand> I’ll take the silence as a “no”.
[14:39:48] <wiesand> Anything else to discuss today?
[14:40:07] <kaduk> I've been trying to review the log-rotation patches during the meeting
[14:40:10] <Jeffrey Altman> for 1.8 I'm trying to track down what needs to happen for 11835
[14:40:16] <kaduk> found a few questions for Mike to answer
[14:41:31] <meffie> ok, thanks!
[14:41:59] <kaduk> Hmm, also gerrit seems to have crapped itself.
[14:42:12] <kaduk> (attempting to view a diff claims it is NOT FOUND)
[14:42:31] <meffie> seems ok here...
[14:42:33] <wiesand> Not for me
[14:42:48] <wiesand> I mean: looks ok here too
[14:43:00] <wiesand> Browser cache?
[14:43:17] <kaduk> Hmm, it works now.  Curious.
[14:44:47] <kaduk> And I just answered one of the questions I had for Mike!
[14:44:59] <meffie> heh
[14:45:15] <kaduk> Maybe I should ask a different one, instead -- any thoughts about the rxgk-afs last call?
[14:46:14] <meffie> yes, since we have a new rev, perhaps we want to have yet another call?
[14:46:59] <kaduk> Well, I asked Greg Hudson to look at the diff, and he pointed out that there's no need to use the 6113 PRF+ when we are already using the 4402 PRF+ elsewhere in the document, since the KRF-FX-CF2 invocation (which uses the 6113 PRF+ internally) will be a library call.
[14:47:10] <kaduk> So, I should probably make another rev of the document to effect that change, first.
[14:47:23] <meffie> alright.
[14:48:07] <meffie> and apparently, there were some comments from jhutz that were not posted to the list?
[14:49:54] <kaduk> News to me (!)
[14:50:39] <meffie> "Some out-of-band conversation indicates that jhutz is unhappy that the
AFSCombinedToken does not include the identity list from the cm_tok;"
[14:50:47] <meffie> from your mail?
[14:51:09] <meffie> just "unhappy"?
[14:52:07] <kaduk> Oh, that.
[14:52:56] <kaduk> Must have been a zephyr conversation, though I no longer have a log of it.
[14:53:02] <meffie> ah, ok.
[14:55:18] <kaduk> Anyway, I don't know that we have more 1.8 discussion to occur here today.
[14:55:32] <wiesand> I have to leave and pick up a parcel.
[14:55:51] <meffie> thanks, have a good evening.
[14:56:01] <wiesand> Thank you all!
[14:56:03] <wiesand> Bye.
