[14:00:26] <meffie> morning/afternoon
[14:00:47] <kaduk> howdy
[14:00:57] wiesand joins the room
[14:01:06] <wiesand> Hi
[14:02:03] <wiesand> 1.6.11.1 is indeed history now. Thanks Daria!
[14:02:28] <wiesand> (and everyone else for the stuff inside of course)
[14:02:54] <wiesand> So how about getting a 1.6.12pre1 out soon?
[14:02:59] <meffie> congrats!
[14:03:53] <wiesand> Is there any reason not to start merging further changes soon? If so, please speak up now...
[14:04:23] <kaduk> further changes meaning 1.6.12 bits?
[14:04:26] <kaduk> If so, go for it.
[14:04:32] <wiesand> Yes.
[14:04:33] <meffie> i am not aware of any
[14:06:35] <wiesand> http://gerrit.openafs.org/#q,status:open+project:openafs+branch:openafs-stable-1_6_x+topic:release1612,n,z is not in bad shape regarding review I think.
[14:07:55] <wiesand> In theory we could even merge that whole stack and upload binaries during this meeting...
[14:08:08] <kaduk> In theory...
[14:09:24] <wiesand> The ones that could possibly raise discussions are the ubik ones.
[14:09:50] <wiesand> But my impression is that they’re ok as they are. Any objections to those?
[14:10:25] <kaduk> not from here ... I am looking at Jeffrey, though
[14:11:34] <wiesand> The other question is whether there’s anything else you would like to see in 1.6.12 badly?
[14:12:36] <wiesand> Ubik is a sensitive area, so limiting the churn in that release seems a good idea to me.
[14:12:48] <kaduk> I don't think there's anything else I really want in 1.6.12.
[14:12:56] <kaduk> "I have some things I want in 1.8.0, though" ;)
[14:13:06] <wiesand> Really?
[14:14:04] kaduk leaves the room
[14:14:06] kaduk joins the room
[14:15:43] <Jeffrey Altman> morning
[14:16:23] <wiesand> Hello
[14:17:22] <wiesand> Should we wait a day or two before merging further changes? Or should I start now? 11626 would be first...
[14:17:29] <Jeffrey Altman> If Jeff is happy with the added delays I'm not going to object to the ubik changes going in as-is.   preventing data corruption is more important.
[14:17:47] <Jeffrey Altman> you should go ahead and merge
[14:17:59] <wiesand> Ok, thanks.
[14:18:50] <wiesand> 11626 merged. On to 11680.
[14:19:46] <wiesand> Merged. About to merge the Ubik ones.
[14:21:10] <wiesand> Done. Now the aklog fix...
[14:22:45] <wiesand> So we’re left with the NEWS update and the version strings.
[14:23:04] <wiesand> How about I merge those and build tarballs, and you go on with 1.8?
[14:23:29] <kaduk> No objection here.
[14:24:36] <Jeffrey Altman> Marc, is not here but I will mention for him that Linux 4.next breaks openafs because of GPL only symbol issues that we will need to get reverted
[14:25:12] <wiesand> Ouch. Thanks for the info.
[14:25:24] <wiesand> What are the chances of that really happening?
[14:25:31] <wiesand> (the reverts)
[14:28:03] <wiesand> In any case, we may have Linux 4.1 client changes in 1.6.12 final, but that’s not a reason to delay pre1 IMO.
[14:28:18] <kaduk> I agree.
[14:29:05] <wiesand> working on tarballs...
[14:30:04] <Jeffrey Altman> pre1 should not be delayed
[14:30:34] <kaduk> It seems like there has still not been much action on the 1.8 front last week.
[14:30:34] <wiesand> Ok.
[14:30:50] <kaduk> I got to review a handful of Mike's logging changes, but there are many more left.
[14:31:25] <meffie> thank you.
[14:32:45] <Jeffrey Altman> I've been traveling for the last few weeks and I'm about to start another 10 hour road trip back to nashville in a few hours
[14:32:51] <meffie> i've been meaning to test ben's key conversion utility.
[14:33:30] <kaduk> Maybe we should try to break down the long list of open issues into just one at a time, e.g., this week we will try to get the logging changes in; next week we work on encrypt-by-default, etc..  Doesn't have to be those things in that order, of course.
[14:34:25] <meffie> the logging changes could block on the softsig changes
[14:35:02] <kaduk> Maybe we should start with the softsig changes, then ;)
[14:35:09] <meffie> if we want to be able to free up usr1 for external programs to trigger log rotations
[14:37:49] <meffie> the softsig depends on dumping linux 2.4
[14:38:18] <meffie> so those would be first. i really hope those dont depend on something else.
[14:38:38] <kaduk> Hmm, buildbot didn't say anything about 11799 patchset 2.
[14:39:19] <kaduk> But we could potentially merge some of that series during the meeting, if we can get things verified in some fashion.
[14:40:10] <wiesand> Gerrit went sick right after I uploaded that.
[14:40:19] <kaduk> Ah.
[14:40:46] <wiesand> But the whole stack was verified twice, because the openafs.spec.in change sits on top.
[14:41:10] <kaduk> Daria, feeling trigger-happy?
[14:42:12] <shadow@gmail.com/barnowlE5B64A04> what do you ant me to merge?
[14:42:29] <kaduk> The linux24 topic, or pieces thereof
[14:44:00] <kaduk> It starts at 11799
[14:46:11] <wiesand> 11833 needs more discussion. The rest seems ok.
[14:48:19] <kaduk> Indeed, 11833 is the reason I said "pieces thereof" :)
[14:49:12] meffie leaves the room
[14:49:18] meffie joins the room
[14:49:48] <kaduk> Thanks, Daria!
[14:51:14] <shadow@gmail.com/barnowlE5B64A04> done
[14:51:28] <shadow@gmail.com/barnowlE5B64A04> the spec change is right.
[14:52:26] <wiesand> That sense of guilt...
[14:52:37] <shadow@gmail.com/barnowlE5B64A04> which?
[14:52:49] <shadow@gmail.com/barnowlE5B64A04> for tossing 2.4 under the bus? oh hell no
[14:53:48] meffie leaves the room
[14:53:59] meffie joins the room
[14:53:59] <wiesand> 11833 PS2 does a tad bit more than that.
[14:54:24] <Jeffrey Altman> I have to head out.  Must walk Leo before getting on the road
[14:54:32] <kaduk> It's okay, it has my name on it so all the blame will be headed at me, not you.
[14:54:46] <wiesand> ;-)
[14:54:54] <wiesand> Thanks Jeffrey, and have a safe trip.
[14:55:03] <Jeffrey Altman> thanks
[14:55:12] <wiesand> NB 1.6.12pre1 sources were uploaded.
[14:55:19] <shadow@gmail.com/barnowlE5B64A04> it kills ff old-style kmods. if you are still using those, uh, don't?
[14:55:31] <shadow@gmail.com/barnowlE5B64A04> do you want another tag?
[14:55:57] <wiesand> We usually ask release-team for some smoke testing before?
[14:56:03] <kaduk> So, should we try to make progress on softsig this week, then?
[14:56:05] <shadow@gmail.com/barnowlE5B64A04> the time has come to push the button, my finger is on the button....
[14:56:09] <shadow@gmail.com/barnowlE5B64A04> ok, i'll wait
[14:57:47] <wiesand> But thanks.
[14:59:41] <meffie> gerrit is wedged for me atm.
[15:00:04] <wiesand> works for me
[15:00:05] <meffie> nope. there it goes, must be my network
[15:01:23] <meffie> kaduk: the other change that should go in before the logging updates is jhutz's dont use maxpaths on the stack fix.
[15:02:04] <kaduk> Must be your network; you changed colors ;)
[15:02:17] <kaduk> Oh right, I forget how that was doing.
[15:02:55] <kaduk> I guess Chas said something about the sockaddr_un layout, but maybe there is nothing else.
[15:03:01] <kaduk> That change is really long to review, though :(
[15:03:02] <meffie> to be clear, that was gerrit 9985
[15:04:16] <kaduk> Yes, I have that one up now.
[15:07:23] <kaduk> Okay, so our priorities for the next week are moving maxpath buffers off the stack, then softsig, and logging if we have time.
[15:07:33] <kaduk> "Which is not to say that you shouldn't play with akeyconvert if you want" ;)
[15:08:24] <wiesand> Ok. Anything else to discuss today?
[15:09:10] <kaduk> I don't think so.  Mike or Daria?
[15:10:25] <meffie> no thank you
[15:10:35] <wiesand> Fine then, I’ll call it a day.
[15:10:51] <wiesand> But should manage to send out minutes later.
[15:11:20] <wiesand> Thanks a lot everyone.
[15:11:43] wiesand leaves the room
