[14:54:53] wiesand joins the room
[14:59:35] <shadow@gmail.com/barnowlE5B64A04> hi
[14:59:52] <wiesand> Hey, I’m not alone :) Hi
[15:01:59] <wiesand> Any chance you could look at http://gerrit.openafs.org/#change,11593 ?
[15:04:24] <wiesand> I had little success inviting reviewers through the gerrit interface lately.
[15:05:38] kaduk joins the room
[15:06:19] <wiesand> Hi Ben.
[15:06:42] <wiesand> Should we go forward with 1.6.11pre1
[15:06:43] <wiesand> ?
[15:07:21] <wiesand> No?
[15:07:30] <kaduk> I tried to pester people via gerrit comments recently as well (to little effect), making me wonder if the mails were not going out or getting flagged as spam or something.
[15:08:07] <wiesand> I received a few mails regarding cvhanges I had starred or ever commented on.
[15:08:27] <wiesand> So, no general problem.
[15:08:28] <kaduk> As did I, so I don't really think that mail is just not going out at all.
[15:08:40] <wiesand> Mine rather was the “is not a registered user” one.
[15:09:32] <kaduk> I think that most of the changes you listed in the email will be fine to put in pre1.
[15:09:51] <kaduk> 11534 is trivially correct (and we had someone run into it on debian as well)
[15:10:07] <kaduk> 11608 is likewise uncontroversial
[15:11:09] <kaduk> I'll try to toss some +1s in a little later today.
[15:11:26] <wiesand> Thanks.
[15:12:10] <kaduk> I see Jeff is pushing the button for master changes; it's too bad that the cmd_ flags changes are causing so many merge conflicts
[15:12:33] <wiesand> That was to be expected...
[15:13:10] <Jeffrey Altman> hi
[15:13:19] <wiesand> Hi
[15:14:21] <Jeffrey Altman> Ben, thanks for reviewing the issues pending in Gerrit
[15:14:24] <kaduk> Yeah, not surprising once thought is applied.
[15:14:38] <wiesand> So, any objections to releasing a 1.6.11pre1 which is the current HEAD of 1_6_x + NEWS + make-pre1 plus those changes I listed in the mail unless there;s negative review on them today?
[15:14:39] <kaduk> Well, there's still some 300 that I haven't looked at yet.  But, probably over the holiday.
[15:15:02] <kaduk> I anti-object to that plan :)
[15:15:18] <Jeffrey Altman> no objections to 1.6.11pre1
[15:16:29] <wiesand> Any change not on my list that you’d like badly to go in?
[15:17:21] <wiesand> Last order ;-)
[15:17:31] <kaduk> I'll live.  (I'd have to check, and I thought the plan was to do 1.6.11 quickly with "just" linux version support and the improved fix for the lookup/d_drop issues.
[15:18:33] <wiesand> Yes, I’d like to keep this one simple, with as little chances as possible to introduce regressions.
[15:19:22] <wiesand> So, agreed.
[15:19:38] <wiesand> Jeffrey, do you happen to have any news from Marc regarding Linux 3.18?
[15:21:03] <wiesand> Daria, thanks for all those +1s.
[15:21:27] <wiesand> If there are no linux news, it’s probably “1.8 branch time” ? Ben?
[15:22:03] <Jeffrey Altman> I have no news about 3.18.
[15:22:03] <kaduk> I noticed that my previous asetkey list testing was with an old asetkey, so that is "already fixed".
[15:22:45] <kaduk> As Jeff alluded to, I started going through the outstanding changes against master to see whether there was anything that should be refreshed prior to 1.8.
[15:23:12] <kaduk> Oh, and I told jhutz about the two-week timeout.
[15:23:15] <wiesand> I noticed ;-)
[15:23:24] <wiesand> Any reaction yet?
[15:24:11] <kaduk> But I haven't done anything with writing up how to migrate rxkad.keytab to KeyFileExt, and I haven't done any other doc work (I'm partway through the QuickStartGuide).
[15:24:33] <kaduk> I don't think I've heard back from any of the "do you want this in 1.8" or "can you prepare an update" inquiries.
[15:25:04] <kaduk> Some of them, which were just lagging around because they had merge conflicts, I rebased and resubmitted myself.
[15:25:18] <Jeffrey Altman> I thought you intended those for the gatekeepers to answer.
[15:25:39] <kaduk> There were probably some for the gatekeepers as well.
[15:26:12] <Jeffrey Altman> I've been going through the listed of items that you reviewed and approved some and added questions on others
[15:26:35] <kaduk> Thanks.
(I haven't caught up on email from overnight yet, so haven't seen those replies.)
[15:28:27] <Jeffrey Altman> There is so much gerrit mail I can't read it.   I just use the dashboard
[15:30:29] deason joins the room
[15:31:40] <kaduk> Hi Andrew
[15:33:00] <kaduk> Did you see my comment on 11464?  (We were pondering earlier whether some gerrit mail was not getting through, or similar.)
[15:35:22] <deason> gerrit mail can take a few weeks to get looked at; I can submit an updated change over the holiday weekend
[15:35:31] <Jeffrey Altman> Ben, I received two copies of the e-mail from gerrit with your comment on 11464.  One to your-file-system.com and one to gmail.com
[15:35:45] <deason> and yes, hello, sorry I'm late
[15:35:58] <deason> was there anything else needing to be done for 1.6.11?
[15:36:45] <wiesand> one more +1 on the NEWS change and I’d start rolling tarballs
[15:37:13] <wiesand> (pre1)
[15:37:30] <kaduk> Okay, it sounds like I should probably stop worrying that gerrit mail didn't go through.
[15:37:44] <wiesand> Probably.
[15:39:37] <Jeffrey Altman> where I have seen recent issues with mail is the openafs-* mailing lists.  DMARC is resulting in mail being blocked from many senders.
[15:41:14] <kaduk> Yeah, I've seem DMARC issues elsewhere which are pretty frustrating.
[15:51:17] <wiesand> Everything headed for 1.6.11 is merged now from my point of view.
[15:52:31] <Jeffrey Altman> thank you
[15:53:02] <wiesand> Who would be able to smoke test before we tag?
[15:53:10] <kaduk> Yes, thanks.
Sorry we've been slow about review...
[15:53:42] <wiesand> Well, I’ve been the brake for the past few weeks.
[15:53:46] <Jeffrey Altman> tomorrow is U.S. Thanksgiving so YFS staff won't look until Monday
[15:54:33] <kaduk> Does Simon get both US and UK holidays? ;)
[15:54:53] <wiesand> The question is whether we want to wait for some smoke tests, or ask Daria for the tag now/
[15:57:04] <kaduk> We think it's mostly minor changes, and it's a pre1 ... it would probably be okay to just tag now.
[15:57:15] <kaduk> We can always just not announce it if it ends up being broken.
[15:57:56] <wiesand> It’s so embarrassing to announce pre2 as the first prerelease ;-)
[15:58:04] <wiesand> But I agree it’s really unlikely.
[15:58:59] <wiesand> Daria, could you please tag 05f3c5254013b095c86a768c3107f475e99f9a56 as openafs-stable-1_6_11pre1 ?
[15:59:04] <deason> I could give you a smoke test today... but it's a pre, just tag it
[15:59:18] <wiesand> Ok.
[16:04:14] <wiesand> Hm, california.central.org?
[16:05:46] <kaduk> Yeah, some new (virtual) machines.
[16:05:56] <kaduk> "Did you look at the new CellServDB?"
[16:07:11] <wiesand> Not at that part...
[16:08:43] <wiesand> My client has no grand.central.org entry, so is using the DNS records. But california doesn’t show up in the vos listad output.
[16:10:00] <kaduk> Hmm, fair enough.
[16:10:34] <Jeffrey Altman> The DNS entries were not updated to match the CellServDB file.
[16:10:43] <Jeffrey Altman> neither the SRV nor AFSDB records
[16:11:01] <wiesand> Creating the volume worked though.
[16:11:32] <kaduk> You only need to be able to find on vlserver to operate on something as a file server.
[16:13:45] <wiesand> Obviously. Tarballs are being copied.
[16:14:44] <shadow@gmail.com/barnowlE5B64A04> have a tag
[16:14:52] <wiesand> Thanks!
[16:16:05] <wiesand> Upload complete.
[16:19:22] <wiesand> Great. My test builds are running. Once they survived a smoke test, Ill release the volume. I’ll also draft an announcement and send it to -release-team for review. This should all happen today. After some positive feedback I’ll send it to announce.
[16:19:55] <Jeffrey Altman> for those in the U.S., have a happy holiday
[16:20:13] <wiesand> Right, happy thanksgiving!
[16:20:18] <kaduk> You, too!
[16:21:53] <wiesand> I think we’re done for today, and I have to leave. Thanks a lot everyone!
