[14:01:24] hi
[14:01:35] <kaduk> greetings
[14:01:38] <wiesand> Hi
[14:03:09] <wiesand> So, do we agree that it's about time to get out a prerelease?
[14:04:41] <wiesand> Ok, let me rephrase... If you think it's not, please speak up now.
[14:04:43] probably.
[14:05:28] <wiesand> Who said "probably" ? (My client shows it as if it comes from the server)
[14:05:59] <deason> haha
[14:06:08] <meffie> heh. not me
[14:06:22] <wiesand> What do you see?
[14:06:28] <kaduk> must be a gremlin in the machine :)
[14:06:30] <deason> I assume 'about now' still allows for more things to get merged into 1.6? or you mean "right now"?
[14:06:35] <deason> yeah, I see it as a server message
[14:06:55] <wiesand> Gremlins. Fine.
[14:07:22] <wiesand> Obviously, we should try to get in what we wanted in the next release.
[14:07:36] <wiesand> And must-haves, if there are any.
[14:08:00] i said it.
[14:08:16] <wiesand> But for example, I think volscan will probably take too long.
[14:08:18] and weird. it's showing me me as server
[14:08:20] wtf.
[14:08:24] <kaduk> who's on first?
(It still shows up as a server message)
[14:08:28] daria
[14:08:38] i am just using barnowl. nothing special
[14:08:49] been logged in for weeks. "uh"
[14:08:56] <wiesand> Ah, Daria. Well it's no problem now that we know who you are.
[14:09:21] <deason> well, most of the volscan commits are fine
[14:09:25] "today, in the role of server, ..."
[14:09:45] <wiesand> The very first one isn't. The next one no longer applies. etc...
[14:09:48] <deason> there are only a few issues, and they are small; just trying to keep the commits the same as on master
[14:11:09] <wiesand> If it can be fixed timely, fine. If it can't, well, it must wait for the next train.
[14:11:36] <deason> 11320 I think needs to be in (that's linux dentry_revalidate, not volscan)
[14:11:44] <deason> 11336 does not need to be
[14:12:01] <wiesand> One stack that I think is ready is parallel make.
[14:12:08] <deason> 11337 we need
[14:12:42] <wiesand> Mike, I took the liberty to split out 11353. Hope that was ok?
[14:13:02] <kaduk> I have the parallel make bits up in my browser now.  Some of them will not get reviewed during the meeting, though, as they require too much concentration.
[14:13:10] <deason> 11351 I'd rather have in
[14:13:54] <kaduk> Yeah, 11351 should go in.
[14:14:17] <wiesand> 11320 seems to fix a real problem. Daria, any chance you could give us that one?
[14:14:57] <deason> and 11352 isn't critical, but no reason not to have it so far
[14:15:12] <wiesand> I think 11337 fixes something not yet merged.
[14:15:23] <meffie> re 11353, thank you!
[14:15:41] <wiesand> ditto 11351
[14:16:06] <wiesand> We can't merge the remaining stack reduction changes without them, but that's it.
[14:16:39] <wiesand> I think 11352 is fine.
[14:17:41] <deason> yes, that's true; I suppose I meant "we need them if we merge that stack"
[14:17:47] <wiesand> Daria: Thanks.
[14:17:58] <wiesand> I agree.
[14:18:03] <wiesand> But no showstoppers.
[14:18:52] <wiesand> But I think I merged what's fixed by 11336. Not critical though?
[14:19:53] <kaduk> not critical, but also harmless
[14:20:02] <deason> yes, not critical
[14:20:15] <deason> well, 11320 I think is pretty important, even if nothing else is merged
[14:20:30] <wiesand> I forgot to list 11316
[14:20:58] <wiesand> 11320 is ready for pull-up thanks to Daria.
[14:21:21] <kaduk> 11316 seems important, yes. I don't think I know enough to +1 it myself, though.
[14:22:29] <wiesand> Daria, thanks for 11316!
[14:22:52] sorry i am behind on everything.
[14:23:18] <kaduk> I feel like I am behind on everything, too.
[14:25:14] <wiesand> I think we're really close now.
[14:26:34] <deason> 11320 pullup in 11358
[14:27:12] <wiesand> The rest of stack reduction and volscan may not make it, but the important stuff seems to be available now (if we can get the rebased 11316 submitted)
[14:28:54] <deason> if we get things 'in shape' this week, is that not too late?
[14:29:05] <deason> (for any set of changes)
[14:29:50] <wiesand> pre1 finished in the next meeting seems like a reasonable goal?
[14:30:45] <wiesand> Any other urgent changes I missed?
[14:31:40] <wiesand> How about the RTs? Anything that really must be addressed in pre1?
[14:32:11] <kaduk> I don't think any of the RT tickets are realistically going to get addressed in pre1
[14:32:13] <deason> I don't think any of those are to be considered critical
[14:32:38] <kaduk> Most of them are not critical, and the one that might be (afs_PutConn refcount imbalance) is likely to be a pain to track down.
[14:32:49] <deason> 131897 could be considered a sort-of regression, but it's in the message reporting
[14:33:30] <wiesand> Ok, not critical.
[14:33:37] <wiesand> Marc, are you here?
[14:33:55] <kaduk> My client doesn't see a Marc.
[14:34:24] <wiesand> He reveiwed a change we discussed a few minutes ago, so I was hoping he's just invisible.
[14:38:30] <wiesand> Buildbot should take ~7 more minutes for 11316.
[14:40:21] <wiesand> Are there any objections to 11307?
[14:40:52] <wiesand> Anyone who would like me to wait for reviewing it?
[14:41:02] <kaduk> It seems to solve a real problem, and I don't have a better solution.
[14:41:17] <kaduk> Its maintainability is not great, but that is not a blocking objection.
[14:43:07] <wiesand> 11075: I'll merge it before pre1 unless we have something better.
[14:43:35] <wiesand> 11151: Can it be fixed?
[14:45:43] <meffie> yes, it think so.
[14:48:22] <wiesand> Buildbot is slower on master...
[14:49:15] <wiesand> While we wait for it, anything else to discuss today?
[14:49:41] <kaduk> Simon is here, right?  Should we bring up "next stable release branch" again?
[14:50:13] <wiesand> If he's not fleeting again, why not ;-)
[14:51:03] <wiesand> Simon, are you actually here?
[14:51:35] <wiesand> I guess not.
[14:52:00] <wiesand> According to my info, we'll have very limited availability of several key persons throughout August.
[14:54:45] <kaduk> Hmm.
[14:54:58] <wiesand> Hmm?
[14:55:47] <kaduk> I think I predict that maintaining my rxgk work on top of master will become rather more effort in the next month or so, though I do need to take some time off and work on another project or two for a bit.
[14:56:59] <kaduk> My client in my test cell is encrypting file data with AES (and only a couple of evil hacks in the code), so probably there should be work going on in parallel on cleaning up the CM code and implementing proper vlserver and ptserver functionality to support it.
[14:57:33] <wiesand> From my point of view, the decision to branch off 1_8_x a.s.a.p. still stands...
[14:57:54] Simon Wilkinson leaves the room
[14:57:56] Simon Wilkinson joins the room
[15:06:19] <kaduk> Stephan, did you do a pullup of 11347 on top of stack-reduction?
[15:06:39] <kaduk> er, parallel make, not stack-reduction.
[15:07:12] <wiesand> not yet
[15:07:48] <wiesand> But I think it will make pre ;-)
[15:07:48] <kaduk> Okay.  "I was reviewing 11239 and it looked funny."
[15:09:55] <wiesand> Ben, could you help out with the FBSD 9.3/10.1 changes?
[15:10:14] <wiesand> 11327 11328
[15:10:18] <kaduk> Sure, I'll add that to my todo.
[15:11:28] <wiesand> What the heck is buildbot doing?
[15:12:28] <wiesand> Ben: thanks. You said they need editing for 1.6, and I have no clue in what way.
[15:13:07] <kaduk> I think it's just adding the appropriate AFS_64BIT_ENV lines, but will check.
[15:15:34] <wiesand> One of the windows builders seems stuck: http://buildbot.openafs.org:8010/builders/win2008-x86-checked-builder/builds/11313
[15:17:27] <deason> I saw that happen on other changes
[15:17:53] <deason> it got stuck for a while and buildbot killed it for inactivity, marking it as a failing build
[15:19:03] <wiesand> Well, we have a week to get it through.
[15:19:48] <wiesand> My test systems have been running with it applied for a while anyway.
[15:21:47] <wiesand> Now it's building. Maybe buildbot retries?
[15:22:51] <deason> build 11313? it showed as "compiling" when I clicked that link earlier
[15:22:55] <deason> did it not show that for you?
[15:23:06] <deason> I assumed it was just not doing anything in the compiling stage, but it looks like it's moving along now
[15:23:29] <wiesand> I saw it stuck in the git stage.
[15:24:04] <wiesand> So there's still hope to get it ready for pullup today.
[15:24:09] <wiesand> It's been an hour...
[15:24:53] meffie leaves the room
[15:36:12] kaduk leaves the room
[15:39:44] meffie joins the room
[15:49:29] <wiesand> I have a stupid gerrit question: What's the right way to pull up 11347 on top of 11350 (the last change in the parallel-build stack), now that changes were merged since the stack was last pushed?
[15:52:31] <deason> checkout a git tree such that commit 0d81b4149c70a4fecde4a556f7cf8d8a22f55cf4 is at the head of it
[15:52:38] <deason> and then cherry-pick the 11347 commit
[15:53:54] <deason> something like:
$ git fetch git://git.openafs.org/openafs refs/changes/50/11350/2
$ git checkout -b whatever 0d81b414
$ git cherry-pick -x b18b59e0
[15:53:55] <wiesand> But the head of stable-1_6_x is now different (0d81b is no longer a descendant). Why is this not a problem?
[15:54:29] <deason> well, if something conflicts such that gerrit won't let you merge it, then it is a problem
[15:54:45] <deason> then you'd need to rebase the parallel-build stack
[15:55:51] <wiesand> The changes merged since the stack was pushed touch no files the stack changes. Is that sufficient for "no conflict"?
[15:56:11] <deason> yes, it should be
[16:03:09] <wiesand> Worked. Thanks.
[16:03:38] <wiesand> And buildbot just verified 11316. Daria, are you still here?
[16:07:56] <wiesand> I guess not. Anyway, I have to sign off for the time being. Thanks a lot!
