[16:08:20] <kaduk> I guess he's in the room but not paying much attention.
Unless I need full name to trigger notifications?   Simon Wilkinson, hello.
[16:08:58] <Simon Wilkinson> hi
[16:09:09] <kaduk> I think I had two questions for you.
[16:09:35] <kaduk> First, how much of your time do the actual logistics of cutting a new branch consume?  (Do you even know?)
[16:10:11] <Simon Wilkinson> Not much at all. It's really just gerrit configuration once the SHA1 that the branch is cut from is known
[16:10:26] <kaduk> Second, Sam Hartman wants to get some new bits into the openssh gssapi patches.  Should we be finding a new upstream for those patches and an orderly transfer?
[16:10:57] <kaduk> (It seems somewhat plausible for debian to be that "new upstream".)
[16:11:04] <Simon Wilkinson> Things are going to change there now that OpenSSH is using git for their code base.
[16:11:16] <Simon Wilkinson> I suspect that means that we could do something properly on github
[16:11:30] <kaduk> Well, I had heard that openssh was completely uninterested in taking new gssapi bits (and might actually remove some).
[16:12:02] <Simon Wilkinson> They're not interested.
[16:12:03] <kaduk> So maybe someone (me?) should look at getting a github team for such a thing?
[16:12:37] <Simon Wilkinson> But most of the time in the past has been spent rebasing the patch over between releases. Which was a real pain when they were on CVS, and almost as much of a pain when they were using mercurial
[16:13:08] <kaduk> Back to the 1.8 branch, I'd like to get 11532 in, and we should give people on the list some more time to object, but otherwise we seem "ready to branch", I think.
[16:13:34] <kaduk> Yeah, maintaining patches against CVS is so much unfun that the last time I had to do it, I kept a local git import :)
[16:14:20] <Simon Wilkinson> I had a local git import, but OpenSSH's CVS is sufficiently special that updating that import every time they made a new release was almost as bad as doing it all by hand
[16:15:15] <kaduk> I think I did end up re-gitcvsimport-ing a few times for my thing.  But some of that may have been due to hardware changes on our side.
[16:17:45] <kaduk> What's your github account again?
[16:18:31] <Simon Wilkinson> simon@sxw.org.uk, I think

[16:20:39] <kaduk> Hmm, I am not really seeing anything that looks like you as a github account.
[16:20:52] <kaduk> in the way that I am https://github.com/kaduk
[16:21:13] <Simon Wilkinson> SimonWilkinson
[16:21:32] <kaduk> That looks better :)
[16:21:58] <Simon Wilkinson> There's some openssh stuff there already, but based on a local CVS import.
[16:22:07] <kaduk> Ah.
[16:22:22] <Simon Wilkinson> Once the next OpenSSH release is out, there should be something more official
[16:22:38] <kaduk> So we should go ahead and make a new repo in a github organization?
[16:22:50] mvita leaves the room
[16:43:02] <kaduk> Hmm, openssh 6.7 came out just a few days ago.
Looks like https://github.com/openssh/openssh-portable is good enough for our purposes, then...
[16:43:40] <Simon Wilkinson> Yes, it should be.
[16:45:33] <kaduk> Reuse "gss-openssh" as the organization name?
[16:46:21] <Simon Wilkinson> Sounds fine to me
[16:48:09] <Simon Wilkinson> You then probably want the 9 patches at the top of my gss-openssh
[16:53:34] <kaduk> *nods*
[16:54:16] <Simon Wilkinson> And I'll have a look and see if I've got anything else
[16:55:14] <kaduk> Heh, some of the merge conflicts are due to them duplicating chunks of your patches.
